In spite of all these various ways to get through the vast array of controller setups and profiles, I completely agree with zhukov032186 that an overhaul is overdue. Veterans already have their hours in the controls so they don't feel the pain anymore. And it's not about novices with a controller as zhukov032186 also mentioned. Most flight sim novices won't even touch a sophisticated sim like this one so why even consider catering to them? The focus and effort and design and for all the points zhukov032186 made, clearly there needs to be a quicker way to setup the game for sophisticated setups. Currently, I only have about 10 aircraft and 3 controllers. But five years ago when I had more space and was fully setup, I had 5 controllers and several other input devices and it was an absolute nightmare. I spent more time in the setup than I did flying and learning the planes. So I can totally understand zhukov032186 's point and I agree with his point of view not just accept it because we have to cater to novices. DCS/ED needs to cater to real pilots, advanced sim pilots, and sophisticated setups, period.

You are correct! I turned off V-Sync and now my FPS is closer to 140...thanks!

Actually, I was looking at the saved games...\input folder. Isn't it possible to just simply save a copy of that folder and name that folder something like "Base Install" so that I can just bring that folder back if it all goes haywire. And just build versions of that folder for backing up all the controller profiles. Would that work?
-
So one last question because with all the posts on what gets saved when you save a profile, I just need a clear understanding on what each profile saves. When I select an aircraft/mode then click on a column for a column for a controller and click Save Profile----Is that just saving that one controller settings for the given aircraft mode? In essence, I need a profile for each controller for every single aircraft/mode, correct? 3 controllers, 10 aircraft = 30 profiles...is that correct?

Greetings - I stand corrected. cichlidfan, it appears you are correct. The only drop down item that does not get cleared is the axis commands. Thank you.
-
Greetings - Now that I am looking at it, I understand the Clear Category clears the controller column chosen per Aircraft/mode and per the option in the drop down like Axis Commands, Autopilot, etc. But the point here is that When you select the aircraft/mode, we have to go through each drop down item one at a time Axis, Flight, View, and click on Clear Category for the particular controller chosen. We should be able to select Aircraft/Mode, then select ALL in the drop down, then select the controller and not only will all the assignments get cleared from the column, but also all the items in the drop down because we chose ALL. We have to go through every single drop down item and clear category for every single item for every single aircraft/mode. The clear All does not clear ALL the items in the drop down for the selected controller. I hope this is very clear now. Thank you.

ok, thanks. I'll try it all again tonight after work.

cichlidfan - I know it works for one single category at a time like the axis or the view, i.e. a single subcategory of an aircraft/mode. I am talking about the entire aircraft/mode. Thank you for your input but it does not address my issue. firmek-Amazingly, I already did that. I made a backup of the saved games\...input. Then I deleted the unwanted controller from all the aircraft/modes in each folder. But then when I started DCS back up, it basically repopulated everything back to defaults with all settings again. So that didn't do anything other than restore all the defaults.

I am sure there is something on this somewhere. But why doesn't the ALL work in the controller setup? If you select a single aircraft/mode, then select ALL, one still has to go through every single subcategory to actually clear the category. Why can't we just select aircraft/mode, ALL, clear category and ALL gets cleared for that aircraft/mode? It is still very cumbersome to go through every single aircraft/mode even for general and have to go into each subcategory to clear category. In essence, why doesn't the "ALL" actually show ALL subcategories so we can clear ALL for the selected aircraft/mode?

I have a 2560x1440p 144hz monitor. And the font size of the FPS counter via Rctrl-Pause is really small and hard to see in red. is there any way to at least increase the font size of the FPS counter? Also, I should be getting more than 60 FPS but it is just pegged at 60FPS. Is there a setting somewhere to allow for higher frame rates closer to my 144hz monitor?

Actually, I need to update my sig because it is over 5 years old. I just built another awesome system. But thanks for letting me know it needs updated. :)

That was absolutely the problem. It is all high resolution now. Thank you very much!
-
When I am inside the cockpit the resolution both inside and outside looking out is excellent. But when I am in the chase view, everything on the ground and all the scenery everywhere is very blurry. Is there any reason for this or do I need to change the settings somehow? I tried turning off all the heat blur modes but nothing helped. It's like the scenery is in 240kx240k in the chase view.

Thank you very much!

Maybe this has been answered somewhere in the forum, but I cannot find it. Is it possible to have a shortcut to load VR mode and another shortcut to load monitor mode? I cannot believe I have to go all the way in to uncheck VR to then completely reload it for the monitor and vice versa. Is there a way to just go into the mode VR or Monitor for what I want?

I have to continually scroll left and right to see the categories/controllers I use because they are separated by unused controllers for BS2. How can I change the order of the categories/columns in options so they are listed in an order I choose?

ok, now it's gone from me making a whimsical solution to me having an attitude problem. :pilotfly: That's Incredible...you took my intitial comment to this level. In fact, my initial comment is constructive. Are you the tsar of the forum parsing emotional elements or something? Maybe it's your unbelievable interpretations that drive people away from the forum. Is that constructive?

EXCELLENT point joey45....

How is that harsh? Where in the world did I say stop using Win7? Where in the world did I say that we don't want people tesing BS on Win7? I said don't RELY so much on beta OS's. My point is, if one is not OS savvy enough to figure out the problem and post solutions, then they are at their own risk. Granted, I do agree that at least notifying everyone of this error is probably better than not. ok, so maybe I jumped the gun a little...but a bit harsh? Do you live in the real world? But I mean this in an all good and productive nature.
-
My recommendation, don't rely so much on beta OS's. Put Vista 64 on your machine and at least wait for Win 7 RC1 before generating error tickets..

Actually, what you are saying here is no different than what I was saying, so you are totally correct and it does not change anything from being a chopper. A lateral movement with a cyclic or yoke whether its a chopper or an aircraft is a roll, which is on the longitudenal axis. A pitch movement is a longitudinal movement, yes, but it is on the lateral axis...and of course the yaw on the vertical axis. So everything you have stated is exactly what it is...whether on rotorcraft or not. So whether it is a chopper or aircraft, the AUTO TURN ON TO TARGET does in fact pivot on the vertical axis. So per this beautifully written autopilot description, we still need to change the lateral to vertical per my note above.
-
First, you did a really great job with this tutorial. Thank you. But I believe there are two directional typos on your document for Auto Pilot. AUTO HOVER DECENT In the second sentance, this should read: This is done by holding the Route mode switch to its backward position. (not forward position) AUTO TURN ON TO TARGET The Lateral axis is for Pitch, the Longitudinal axis is for Roll, and the Vertical axis is for Yaw. Therefore, you need to change the axis that the Auto Turn utilizes to the vertical axis for yaw not the lateral axis.

ok, I'll just focus on a multi-monitor issue here......How about letting me explain it this way: I do have three monitors and the center monitor is a really nice Dell 27". However, monitor 2 and 3 are nice too but different sizes 24" and 20". I do have a really nice video card the ATI 4870X2 2GB with two DVI ports. Currently, I have the 27" on DVI 1 and the 24" on DVI 2. I have seen other threads where nobody seems to be able to get the cockpit on monitor 1 and the Shkval and/or ABRIS on monitor 2. I believe in Vista, the only option is to extend the monitor. So maybe that is the problem because I cannot get it to work in BS Options and activate the cockpit/Shkval to be on separate screens. That is all I really need right now is to toggle between the Shkval and the ABRIS on my second 24" monitor. So basically, does anyone have any advice as to the best way to do that since it doesn't seem to work via the cofig options in the DCS:BS?
