I hope you have a good experience this time!

You may really want this feature, but very few people as far as I can make out would replace physical HOTAS with haptic feedback. The technology is just nowhere near reliable enough at this point in time. So the devs at DCS aren't going to prioritise a very low demand feature which will be a pain to develop and will require a lot of bug fixing and constant updates to improve it just because you want it. And to be honest I really think you're better off relying on a decen HOTAS which is going to be far more rewarding an experience and will give you far superior control over the aircraft of your choice.

I found no discernible difference in the 3d effect between the Reverb and the Rift CV1. Looked amazing to me. When it worked :(

General consensus now is that we're probably in for a 2 month wait. The Acer conceptd OJO headset has the same resolution displays and perhaps we'll hear something about that soon.
-
Stop it :cry::cry::cry: Got my refund today from HP, so their support/returns process has been pretty damn efficient to be fair to them. But I've got no VR, and going back to flying in 2d is just downright depressing. I'll use the time to do some CDU training I guess.
-
Yeah, this exactly. Obviously there are some other variables to consider when evaluating VR headsets, but if the resolution is too low all you're really doing is trying to use some software tricks to mask a lack of clarity. As you say, in a flight sim where you're looking for objects miles away this is absolutely critical. The Acer OJO does look promising, and to be honest a better design of headstrap and audio along with IPD adjustment would be great to have as well. We'll just have to wait and see what the lenses are like I guess.

Yeah I was also interested in the Pimax 8k x but it's starting to head into silly money territory and I would need to be VERY confident that it's a fully functioning and stable piece of hardware after all the hassle of the Reverb. On reflection it might not be a bad thing to sit back and wait for a bit before evaluating again the options.
-
Yeah it's annoying. So close, and yet so far. I'm giving serious thought to the Acer ConceptD OJO but there's not a lot of news about that right now. Time will tell.
-
I purchased direct from HP UK but was only offered a refund, so I assume its a bit more uncertain here in terms of stock. You're probably right about the wait time, but it's not the end of the world tbh.
-
Ha, mine just went back today! Still I think I'd rather have a model that I know has all the kinks ironed out. I can survive a few weeks without VR I'm sure.
-
Were you having the usual raft of problems prior to this update? Regular disconnects, flickering displays etc?
-
I'm only aware of how to change it in WMR, which had a clear impact for me. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/121081-change-refresh-rate-mixed-reality-headset-experience-windows-10-a.html

Yeah I tried that early on. It didn't make much difference

Bug fixing can be a very slow and tedious process at times, and what seems like a simple problem can require really extensive testing and verification to ensure there are no unintended consequences. So in short, we have to be patient and also be grateful that we have such a dedicated and enthusiastic dev team working to continually improve this platform we all love so much. I can't think of many games that have received such consistent long term support from its devs.

My understanding is that the announcement of its release is imminent, so I guess at least a few months before its being shipped. I'm aware that the build quality on the Pimax was initially quite rough and ready but I'm also hearing that is improving in the later releases. At the very least its interesting to witness and will help drive the market to more innovation in terms of FOV and resolution.
-
Well that review and comments are for the 8k, which uses up sampling. The 8k x is apparently going to have a native res so I am at least interested to see how that works out.
-
I really don't think they will cancel a device which clearly would have been a big investment for them just because of these teething problems, as frustrating as they are. We'll just have to wait and see, we have no idea really of exactly what needs to be fixed. It could be turned round a few weeks from now. If not, then so be it. Meanwhile Pimax will soon be announcing the 8k x , with a 3840 x 2160 native resolution per eye. I'm conflicted to say the least, but in a good way :)

I've also added my own gripes to the same site just to voice my frustration.

Good point

I realised last night that I hadn't tried setting my headset to 60hz in WMR. Changing that has improved the stability quite a bit but not completely. I can at least get an hour or two out of the headset before it crashes now. I imagine that this is simply because the lower refresh rate means less heat. Also the weather has been warmer in the last couple of weeks so that could contribute to the greater frequency of issues I had up until the refresh rate change yesterday. I'm meant to return my Reverb next Monday, but I may put it off for a few days in the hope that HP sort out the issues and get new stock that I can then swap out.
-
Thanks for that! It's pretty much what I expected tbh. I'm looking forward to a fault free version as I still really love this device. Oh my god, I'm in an abusive relationship with a VR headset! No matter how much it hurts me I'll take it back every time! :O.
-
Have they turned reviews off now? I've been unable to leave one. The one small positive is that the returns process was pretty easy other than getting bounced through a few departments before I got to the right person. There was no quibbling about organizing a return, and no requirement for me to follow a bunch of redundant troubleshooting steps. Pickup by DPD on Monday, so I've got a few more days to get as much fun as possible out of my poor damaged baby, sniff :(
-
I know right? The thought of staring at the display on my Rift just fills me with despair after the high res glory of the Reverb. I was really getting back into DCS because of the Reverb :( ('Trover saves the universe' is damn good fun in VR too ¬_¬).
-
For the time being at least. Hopefully they'll correct the problems eventually.
-
Well my Reverb is being collected in a couple of days, and I'm being offered a refund rather than a replacement so I'm without VR for a while now, sadly :(
