  1. Fortunately it's ticking the one box I truly care about. Since day one I've only wanted better resolution. I never even bothered buying the hand controllers for the Rift as I purely use it for DCS. Wider FOV would have been a bonus but is by no means a deal breaker for me. I'd like to consider the the Pimax 5k as well, but performance/build quality concerns make me hesitant, as well as the absence of inside/out tracking. So Reverb is still in the running as far as I'm concerned, but I'll still hold back and wait for more opinions, especially from DCS pilots.
  2. Toms Hardware review for anyone interested. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/hp-reverb-vr-virtual-reality-windows-mr-headset,6124.html
  3. Looks like I'm saving for an Xtal ¬_¬
  4. Not the most auspicious product launch, is it?
  5. DCS is pretty much the only thing I play now (excepting the occasional binge session of Kingdom Come:Deliverance) and I too get tremendous satisfaction from learning the systems that are fully accurate to those in real life. I'm really looking forwards to the point where he have fast smooth, high def VR combat flying. :pilotfly:
  6. Being low maintenance has its benefits here. My only interest in VR is sim related so I really don't care about controllers/behind the head tracking, or super dark screens for horror games. The mura effect seems to be something of a non issue once you're immersed in the game of choice. Still, it's worth hanging back to see what the index is like.
  7. A review/comparison of the Reverb and the Rift S https://www.google.com/amp/s/arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/05/a-tale-of-two-inside-out-vr-headsets-the-400-oculus-rift-s-600-hp-reverb/%3famp=1
  8. TBH, if the image quality is as good as reported, I'd be happy to purchase one and wait for the PC hardware, and DCS patches to bring the performance up to speed over time. (just got a pay rise so I can feel a monster rig looming on the horizon, ready to burn a hole in my credit card ¬_¬)
  9. Well I looked at some comparison shots between the Pimax and the Rift CV1. It's a bit subjective obviously, but the Reverb is looking VERY favourable based on the image above.
  10. You know you can change the unit size under the options, right? It does help a bit, but certainly on some backgrounds it can be very tricky to spot. The good news is that it does get easier with practice.
  11. If you're going to use an adapter, it has to be specifically 4k compatible otherwise you'll get no signal.
  12. You're in for an awesome time dude! Make sure you've got any required port adapters. I had to wait another 48 hours for a 4k compatible mini display port to hdmi adapter before I was up and running.
  13. Ah yeah, I didn't think of using labels. I'll give that a whirl. Thanks :) also I got my first guns kill of a T72 last night, so I guess I'm improving with practice.
  14. I use the throttle pinkie button. Works pretty well.
  15. Yeah I've used that and it does help to some extent. But sometimes I just can't see a thing. As soon as the SPI is eliminated by the gun reticle I have no idea what I'm aiming at until within about half a mile. :(
  16. Hi everyone I'm having a hard time spotting targets when I make a guns or rockets pass when using the Rift. I've selected large units under the options menu, but with certain backgrounds (dark green, for example) I just can't make out so much as a pixel until I'm almost right on top of the target. For any target that shoots back this is a bit of a problem, naturally. Does anyone have any tips on anything I can tune in a lua file to improve visibility of targets in these circumstances? Thanks in advance. John
  17. Well I tried changing the resolution to 2160x1200. I honestly can't say I noticed a difference, as much as I wanted to. I'm going to concur with those who advise this is a runtime level setting. I just wish my targets were a bit easier to spot, even when they're set to large.
  18. Hi Everyone I notice that the resolution is set to 1280x768 under options when I use the Rift. Should I assume that this is not related to the Rift and therefore does not need to be adjusted? Thanks John
  19. No problem old chap, I appreciate your input. I can use the debug tool for 2.0 version anyhow :) many thanks. John
  20. Ah OK, so I need to install the openbeta. Sheesh, thin is confusing! Thanks for the help though :)
  21. How strange. This is a new clean install of ver 2.0, but I don't see the VR tab under options :(
  22. Yeah, they're fresh installs as of yesterday. I'll take another look. Perhaps I'm just not paying attention :)
  23. Thanks for that. How do I actually change it in the openbeta and alpha. I can't see an option :s
