List of paid aircraft modules that support visible Pilot Body for VR users
TORC replied to TORC's topic in Virtual Reality
Added the Mirage F1. Currently no pilot (it is release day, so definitely early access!). I have also updated the checked date on a couple of modules I have flown recently, but I haven't had to change any of them at this stage.- 49 replies

The high wing is also good for quick turnaround - You don't need as long (and heavy!) a ladder for the pilot, and the ground crew can work under the wing to quickly rearm.

Hi VirusAM, What I did was placed the sensor (and its illuminator, it's all on the one circuit board) inside the stick base looking at some white electrical tape. I then put a switch which cuts the power to the illuminator, so I can turn it off. It might also be possible to just point the illuminator at the sensor - its been years since I had this apart.

Added the Hind. This one does not have the player body visible and also does not have the CPG (or Pilot) body visible when viewed from the other seat.- 49 replies

I think it's an interesting comparison. The Jaguar started out as a trainer and light bomber (on the drawing board), and evolved into a quite capable low altitude strike aircraft. The F1 started out as an interceptor, and evolved into (in French service at least) a quite capable fighter bomber that ended up getting used a lot at low altitude. The similarity in the design - perhaps that is what led to the similarity in end-use?
-
As the Jaguar was a major part of the RAF's commitment to NATO, I'm not sure there was every any serious deployment to the Falklands. That said, it shouldn't stop you from doing it The Jaguar did have a rough-field capability - it should (in theory) be able to operate from the "dirt" fields on the Normandy map, for example...
-
You'd probably need a bit of a dead zone between the maximum "normal" input and the "override" input to make sure we can get the max normal input without jumping into the override condition, but I think this would still work for those of us who use extensions.

I tried this, for me it works if you hook your fingers over the edge of the box and use your thumb to hit the buttons. The gear lever and things like that with large controls that you move a comparably long distance are much easier to use. You need something, in my experience, to anchor yourself to so that you can get the correct button or switch, for the smaller stuff. I found that strapping a left-handed trackball to my chair next to my throttle was better - I can easily move my hand to get the mouse and click the switch in the cockpit. Obviously that's not efficient for the gear and flaps, but I have enough switches on my throttle to cover those. That said - left handed trackballs can be expensive!

I've updated the Apache in the document, the module currently in Early Access and it does not have the player body visible for the currently occupied seat, though it does show the occupant of the other seat (similar to how the F-14 Tomcat was prior to getting pilot and RIO bodies in the 2.8 update). As the module progresses (at least when it leaves early access), I'll come back and update the document if/when it changes.- 49 replies

This would be nice, but the thing you'd want most is the thing that's missing from Supercarrier - the crew marshalling you out of and into parking.

I'd buy a Jaguar module for sure! If getting reference data for the RAF versions is too hard then Ecador, France, Nigera and Oman all previously operated it and have now retired it. Any of those version, though not as well equipped as a GR.3 would be fine (could easily stand in for the GR.1 standard I am guessing). India is another notable operator, but seeing as they still operate the jet I think they'd be tightly holding information they have on their variants. I know one of the main external differences between the UK and French versions of the jet was the laser spot tracker in the nose, and the cockpit was very different in detail, the big moving map display was peculiar to the British version if I'm not mistaken. Additionally, earlier versions had a Mirage style stick grip instead of the Harrier II/Tornado F.3 style grip shown in SuliedRocket11's pictures above. The Jaguar International operated by Oman, Nigeria and Ecuador seems to be externally similar to the British version with the spot tracker. In any case - an interesting cold war era strike jet. Good suggestion!

Hello Aerogator, will the new KG12 grip be available either as a standalone or as an option for the Gunfighter base? I love the look of the redesign and am thinking about a nice center mount for it ... I understand the first batch will probably already be for the NXT bases, but do you plan to offer it for the Gunfighter in the future?

Hi Longuich, thanks for offering to help! Testing for virtual pilot body I go to the "Adjust controls" section, searching for the "Show pilot body", "Show body" or whatever seems the most like this. I then bind this to a key and, going back to the cockpit, I press the key to see what happens. There are a few possibilities: There isn't a keybind for that option. A couple of third party modules are like this. There is a keybind but it doesn't seem to do anything The keybind turns the virtual pilot body on or off In some helicopters, the keybind cycles through options of having your pilot body, the copilot body or both bodies shown Virtual pilot kneeboard If you get a pilot body to be shown in the cockpit, look down at "your" legs. There is usually a kneeboard or some sort of clear pouch in the pants. In the free TF-51D, when you use the "next kneeboard page" and "previous kneeboard page" options (in the "Kneeboard" section in the change key bindings menu), the page on the kneeboard changes (and if you bring up the kneeboard using the "Kneeboard On/Off" command you'll see it's showing the same page). If the module you're looking at has this same functionality, let me know - it gets the gold shading. If you don't mind doing so, please post your results here. If you can, please post the results for the Ka-50 and Huey so I can cross check so that we are seeing the same thing?- 49 replies

I have created a list of DCS aircraft modules that have the Virtual Pilot (visible first-person pilot body) in the cockpit. This is an important feature beacuse of the additional immersion in VR of having your body there - and VR is all about immersion! The good news is that a solid 66% of paid modules support the virtual pilot, including all but one of the helicopters. I hope this document will assist VR users who value the virtual pilot in determining which modules are worth their hard earned cash. Link to document As of 6 October 2024 the document is complete and details all available paid modules. Special thanks to longuich for helping me out with the helicopters, and Derek Speare for helping out with the Christen Eagle II.

"Special for Joystick" Landing Gear options
TORC replied to TORC's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thankyou for the information about "default.lua" - if I make the change in this will it cause problems e.g. with joining multiplayer servers? -
Hello, F-18 Hornet does not seem to have 'Landing gear up else down' binding in the Special For Joystick menu (in Sim mode, not sure about game mode), does this option exist for the F-18? It is for the F-14 by Heatblur, and helps a lot to bind to controller with only one "engagement" for landing gear switch?

Hi everyone, I have been using a Leap Motion with SDraw's fork of the CBuchner Driver_Leap Steam VR drivers to get my hands into the cockpit in VR. This works very immersively, but I'm having a problem when my virtual hand "bumps" various controls at inappropriate moments when I have my RL hands on my throttle (usually the gear handle and stores jettison in the modern aircraft, and the mixture lever in the Spitfire). What I have been trying to find without success is a way to temporarily enable or disable the VR hands that I can tie to a button press, ideally in game so I don't have the hands hovering in space where I last left them. Does anyone know if this can be done, either through the interface or through a LUA somewhere, or if not how do I place a feature request to ED? Thanks!

That’s great news Vibora! Looking forward to this jet!

I don’t think I’ve seen a waveoff in your videos before - the pressure of having to look good in front of Jester? Great video as always

Hi Deathmechanic, Here's a screenshot of the settings that give a nice progressive spring. I'm using a higher force (16) than Fred recommends (12) because I've lengthened my stick grip, so I will be losing some discrimination around the edges of the stick movement. The problem I had previously was twofold, I was reducing the spring effects strength in Logitech Device Options (which prevents the stick giving it's full force) and had confused the Spring Force and Spring Saturation settings in SimFFB. So if you use the settings above as a starting point, and then tweak to your preference then it should be easy

Because as you recline the pilot’s seat s/he gains some G tolerance compared to the less reclined seat? So the tolerance should change compared to the Hornet, for instance.
