The Viper has a very short wheelbase, i.e. the distance from the nosewheel to the main gear, so this behavious doesn't seem suprising to me at all. Intuition, and a fairly decent knowledge of physics tells me that this is fairly accurate, UNLESS there is some sort of NWS damping sytem in the real thing.

Huh, so after following your advice and clearing out all my shader folders etc, the HUD brightness switch does indeed seem to work. One last question, is there a way to dim the 3 landing gear indication lights? they're dazzlingly bright if flying at night time.
-
Ok, thank you, I will try this in the morning. Many thanks for your reply. I'll report back either way :)

1 - Apologies, my mistake, it was late and I was tired, so I accidentally posted on the wrong thread. As stated earlier, I'm in VR, but I forgot to mention that I was using the latest patch. It seems that VR is severely bugged, especially lighting, so what may work for you in pancake mode (2D), may not work for us in VR. ED are apparently aware of the issue and will look into it. It seems that this issue is a widespread one, and not just for me, as fellow F-16 drivers not in VR are not reporting the same issues. As stated earlier, neither the keybinds, nor the cockpit switches and dials were working for me. 2 - So as this appears to be a bug, therefore it does belong on this page. Just because it doesn't affect you, does not mean that others aren't having issues. But thank you for your input as it only helps confirm that non-VR users don't seem to be affected.

So how would you do that in single player, or in the training missions?...
-
Just a little tip from something I've discovered in DCS if using rudder pedals. I know this is as tedious as f**k, but you have to go through every single aircraft, one by one, and check that the key bindings for your toe brakes (left and right) are set to "Slider". Amazingly, this took me a while to figure out. I could not understand why they didn't work properly. All of a sudden, the Tomcat's brakes actually worked...

I'm new to the Viper, and like flying in low light conditions. I can't seem to be able to control the brightness of the HUD. I'm flying in VR (Rift-S), and the console/instrument/food lights seem to work fine. I've set the switch to "night" on the right knee panel (or whatever it's called), but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to dim the HUD, it's dazzlingly bright at night (ditto for the "Gear down" indicator lights!). Is there something I've missed? I've tried the key bindings, but they don't seem to do anything) Is there a way to dim either of them yet? if so, why not?! surely that'd be one of the first things to implement? Hopefully I'm just being stupid and have missed something. Please enlighten me, oh veteran Viper Gurus :D

Updated manual and other goodies from Baltic Dragon
Mezsh replied to baltic_dragon's topic in RAZBAM
Many thanks, your hard work is very much appreciated. -
I have a button set on my HOTAS (Warthog throttle and stick) that I press, and as long as I'm pressing it, it zooms in so I can read stuff like the caution panel, as well as look out the canopy for ground/air targets, it seems to do the trick for me and is an acceptable workaround for me. The Hornet's moving map is bloody dreadful (even with the "every frame at 1024" box ticked) and I can barely read it even when zoomed in, so I just turn off the map.
-
With the greatest of respect, that's a lame response. Just because it's normal, doesn't mean it's right or better in any way. I'm just trying to offer suggestions for improvements to realism and immersion, it shouldn't be that hard to implement and you can't deny that it'd make refuelling far more realistic, the sound is half the vibe!
-
I was doing a spot of air-to-air refuelling the other day in my trusted harrier, and as I approached the KC-130, it suddenly occured to me that there was zero noise from the tanker's engines or props, despite doing 260KTS just a few metres back and below its engines. Surely, as you'd approach in real life, you'd hear/feel the low frequency hum from the props/engines through the cockpit window?! That would be a good addition to make refuelling even more immersive (especially in VR!)
-
It does it in the Harrier quite a bit, but not all the time (I've been flying Harrier exclusively in DCS for 3 or 4 months now) but I've noticed it only mainly does it if your targeting system (whether DMT, FLIR or TPOD) are zoomed in quite far.

Well this thread went cold quickly...

How do I insert a track file? it's pretty easy to make one, just go to the main training mission for carrier ops and click "fly" mission, you'll get the same result and will be able to make your own track file. It seems to be broken for all Tarawa cold starts, but seems to work OK for hot start missions... which brings me to my next bug... If I don't take off immediately from the carrier, my wingman (somehow) just falls off the front of the carrier into the sea (creating a huge splash over the bow of the ship), but strangely, is still sat behind me on the carrier. If I take off immedaitely, he joins me in the air, no problem, but I have literally seconds to prepare my cockpit for takeoff to prevent this, but I'm more concerened with the cold starts being "broken" and the mission starting in the F10 map with no way to get into the jet...
-
It's brilliant. Easily my favourite jet. A lot to learn, and a bitch to master, but very rewarding. The learning curve is STEEP! but very rewarding once you start to get the hang of it. Highly recommended. The only downside is if you don't have rudder pedals, you kinda need them for VSTOL Ops., just like flying a chopper. If you don't have any, get some, it's worth the £100 or so investment as it adds another layer of immersion.
-
Are you aware of the AV-8B/Tarawa bug? it's "broken" any Harrier mission that starts cold and dark on the Tawara (Inc. training missions). it was fine a couple of weeks ago, so something in the last 2 or 3 updates has broken it. The problem being that when you click "fly mission", the mission starts on the F10 menu, with no way of being able to get into the jet, and even if you change the mission to a hot/air start, it just freezes. Please fix soon, the AV-8B is pointless without carrier ops.

Some Training and SP missions "broken" after recent update (?)
Mezsh replied to Mezsh's topic in Training Missions
Cheers. It only seems to happen for a cold and dark start. I think a hot start works OK. It definitely worked before the last 2 updates (Open Beta). -
I've been having problems in the last few days with some Harrier training missions (For example, the main Carrier Ops mission) and some of my own SP missions. They were working fine a couple of weeks ago, so I can only assume it's due to a recent update. What happens is that I load the mission, click "Fly", but when I do, the mission starts, but it's in F10 map view and I can't get into the cockpit. I read on another thread that this has been common in MP for a while and the workaround is to click "esc", then select spectator, try cycling those a couple of times, then re-selecting the Harrier. I've tried this with the training missions/SP missions, but when you press "esc", there's no option to select different views or units. Can anybody help? thanks in advance.

ISSUE RESOLVED! Thank you. I forgot that there's an extra step involved the first time you add a modifier (from the actual "modifier" menu option, and not the "modifier" option box on the key mapping menu). I spent an hour trying to resolve this the other night. I don't remember doing this extra step when mapping the SU-27 a couple of days ago, so it stumped me. Turns out I was just being dizzy, thank you!
-
Anyone? Anything?

I recently bought a VR headset, so I needed to map all controls to my Warthog hotas Throttle/Stick (due to not being able to see the keyboard). I went through the SU-27 controls and managed to add a modifier (pinkie lever on stick) as a "keyboard shift" button to allow me to map twice as many buttons, but when I went to duplicate the controls on the SU-33, it won't let me add a modifier. Is there a workaround? like maybe editing some file or something? It seems ridiculous that you can add a modifier to the SU-27, but not the SU-33 :( (I prefer flying the SU-33 over the SU-27, because I like carrier ops)

I freshly installed DCS a month or so ago, it's the latest stable build, I've been flying the Harrier a lot recently so have just come back the the Hornet. When I enter the cockpit, my view is zoomed right in to the dashboard, so as I zoom out to make it normal again, it gets to a certain distance away and flicks me right back to being zoomed right in. This happens every few seconds, making it unflyable. I've checked my bindings, and I haven't changed anything since I flew it last, but I cannot fathom it out, any ideas? All my other modules seem to work fine :/
-
Ah, Brilliant! I edited the .lua just as you advised, and it fixed the issue. Many thanks for your speedy reply/solution! Also, thanks for the workaround tip about copying to the "saved games\DCS\Missions\..." folder, that hadn't occured to me... I'm assuming this'll be patched out soon. As for the Training tutorial mission No.16, ah OK, I know there are a couple more tutorials to come, incl. night ops, countermeasures, etc, so that'll probably be one of them. Again, many thanks for your speedy reply. I think you also helped me when I was having TACAN problems a month or so ago, it's very much appreciated.

Any ideas why there's no Training mission 15 and 16 on my system? I'm running the latest stable version of the game, and it was a fresh install a couple of weeks ago, I haven't messed with it at all, but I'm missing the dumb bomb tutorial training mission(s) No.15, as well as whatever No.16 is. Any ideas on what to do? I've just downloaded Baltic Dragon's latest training files, No 15 is in there, and on my computer in the correct folder, but when I load the game, neither Training Mission 15 or 16 are in there. Am I doing something wrong? (How come Baltic's file doesnt contain training mission 16). Many thanks in advance.
-
Many thanks, Ramsay! I guess I just overestimated the capabilities of the TACAN. I just assumed that the TACAN spinning wildly was some kind of bug (as it works with ground targets and A/A refuelling), but I now know that it's normal behaviour for smaller jets. I really appreciate you taking the time to make the video, thank you very much! Incidentally, how do you record the video as you're flying? is it 3rd party software, or do you record .AVI from within the game?
