  1. The wingman AI drives me nuts in the "Dusk" campaign mission. Because of the twilight we can't get a lock on targets with the Shkval, so I have to manually paint the targets until the missile hits. The wingman is incapable of doing so, so his whole Vikhr compliment is completely useless, in a mission with lots of targets that can only be eliminated safely from a distance (T-72s and BMP2s). So, when I'm out of my Vikhrs this leaves only guns and rockets... and this is the perfect recipe to get the wingman shot down, because he is unable to maintain a safe distance when ordered to attack. He just barges into the target zone as if there was no tomorrow. Well... as a result there also won't be for him. Sans a wingman I don't really stand a chance against the remaining targets.
  2. Again, thanks guys! There you go: http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7728/hokum0611680.jpg No, I haven't but I have now. Thanks for that tip! Wow. Maybe I should zip up the originals and put them all online. ;) Yeah, I will. Also I will try to use more of my selfmade custom flares instead. Photoshop's lensflares don't really match up with the anamorphic widescreen look I was aiming for.
  3. Thanks guys! If you like a particular shot in high resolution, let me know. The originals are in 1920x1200. I'll keep that in mind for next time. And I hope can restrain myself from posting so many shots. It's so hard to decide which ones to choose.
  4. I present you a little dusk mission with edited screenshots. Sorry for the bad gradients in some of the pics. I didn't realize how bad the compression of Black Shark's screenshot function is before it was too late. Next time I'm gonna use an external program.
  5. I think Longbow did that, if I remember correctly.
  6. Yeah, I know. You give him reputation for saying that the mag is only for 14 year old boys while I'm clearly a reader of that mag, otherwise I couldn't have translated the review for you guys. ;)
  7. Who says they are important? But they exist and I think ED might wanna now what these mags publish about their work. Plus: it's more informative than some guy posting that he finally got Black Shark, for example. ;)
  8. Back then they had guys who were at home in the simulation genre. Today they don't, due to lack of demand. And frankly 92% is too high a rating for Falcon 4.0. It had too many problems to deserve that much. So, you get reputation here for indirectly insulting other users? Good to know... I'll try to remember that.
  9. Good stuff, I'm definitely gonna buy it. This makes me sadly remember better times though, when sims like this were financed by big publishers and you got a thick, coloured manual with the game for free. Janes's AH-64D Longbow comes to mind.
  10. Make sure you keep the firing button pressed long enough. If you let go too soon you will only fire one missile regardless of the salvo setting.
  11. Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to give it a try once my rotor addiction wears off a little. ;) But now back to topic.
  12. Is it playable by now? I loved Silent Hunter III but I never bought IV because of the all the bugs I read about.
  13. I have a question: am I the only one who thinks that the A-10 is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever build? I just love its design to bits and I can't really understand why the call it Warthog. Warthogs are ugly this bird isn't. ;)
  14. It certainly is more realistic than an instaboom from exploding targets 6 kilometers away. ;) Good thing. I'll give it a shot! I think so far Operation Flashpoint is the only game that takes sound delay into account. Or did ArmA do it, too? Don't remember.
  15. Yeah, I loved to do that with Longbow 1 and 2. Scan some targets with the radar, draw killboxes for myself and my wingman and then we would reign hellfire upon the enemies... literally. ;)
  16. Yeah... if I hadn't known of Black Shark before, I would have looked into it after reading that article. And I would have found out that it's a lot better than they made it out to be. So, it's definitely a positive thing. Anyone who is craving for a new simulation and didn't know about it yet will be interested after this review. And the sell a lot of copies of their magazine every month. Around 172.000 every month, according to their numbers. I wouldn't know. I bought the English version.
  17. Yeah, a highly underused helicopter. I think only Battlefield Vietnam has 'em, and that isn't a simulation by a long shot. Okay... troop deployment and similar stuff may get a little boring after while, but it would make a nice addition. I fondly remember Gunship 2000 where you could fly quite a few helicopters.
  18. I'm not a native English speaker but it's simply "whose". ;)
  19. This seems to be related to the dusk condition. The same happens in the Shooting Range mission. Maybe the twilight shortly after dusk is interfering with the targeting system. You can still shoot the targets. The laser points to the gate on the Shkval so as long as you don't have any moving targets you should be able to hit them without a lock. Just keep the gate over the target until the missiles hit.
  20. Also looking through the PDF with the keyboard commands is recommended. ;)
  21. Will do! Eagle Dynamics are basically the last bastion of military simulations. One size fits all sims like Operation Flashpoint 2 and ArmA 2 notwithstanding.
  22. I'm wondering. Since we don't get the AH-64D... do the earlier versions of the Apache also have the killbox technique and the ability to fire and forget Hellfire missiles? That's what I loved the most back in the Longbow 1 and 2 days.
