  1. A text like that would have been just the teaser in the old days... now it passes as a full review. Damn the age of Attention Deficit Disorder.
  2. You can select it in the mission editor when you plant or edit your own helicopter If you create a new mission use the helicopter icon on the left, then on the new menu on the right choose the Ka-50 as Type, then Player as Skill. Click somewhere on the map to place it. Now, 5 icons will become available in the menu. The middle one is the one for the weapons loadout, where you can also select the skin in the drop down box below. The one with the Shark mouth is the 3rd one (Demo paint scheme #22 "Black Shark"). You can also load campaign missions and edit your helicopter that way by simply finding it on the the map and clicking on it.
  3. I had a look at you track and you indeed forgot to switch on engine anti ice, which was the reason for your loss of power. The second setting of the dust protection switch turns on engine anti ice. Also, as Kwill said, you should switch on the heaters for the pitot tube and the angle of attack/side slip sensors. They can be found on the left side of the overhead panel.
  4. Bestimmt nicht. Ich hab selber eine MX518 (mit Setpoint-Treiber 2.60.606) und die macht nirgends Probleme.
  5. Wissen Eagle Dynamics schon, dass sie das Spiel gar nicht gemacht haben, sondern ihr Publisher? :music_whistling:
  6. Hehe, I guess many think that way. Including me. Welcome and have fun! ;)
  7. I know it's not really on topic, because it's not a Black Shark video. But I thought this video that I made could interest you. I mean, it's about a helicopter, after all. Feel free to delete this thread if it's too off topic.
  8. Like already was said: use Fraps and record as much footage as you need and then use an easy to use program to stitch them together, shorten the clips, add effects, etc. I use Sony Vegas for my videos. It's very intuitively to use. I could make videos with it in no time, even tough I had no previous experience of doing so. True. But even some loud and head banging song can work well, if is selected with care. ;) Yeah, it did. ;) Well, that's a matter of opinion. But I also prefer non-timed videos. ;)
  11. I think you underestimate the impact of music, when it's used with care. Here's a video I made a while back and then tell me that it would work as well without the music ;)
  13. Yup, the first one is really great!
  14. Hehe, yeah. Maybe HE should look for a problem when running single core affinity. ;) I certainly don't get twice the frame rates. But they were pretty good to begin with.
  15. I didn't read the manual yet (waiting for the printed version) but I'm getting by very well, even though I haven't asked a single question here. The video notes help a LOT. Check the download section of the main page. Also searching for a certain topic on the forums is very insightful. I have yet to encounter a problem that wasn't discussed already.
  16. Welcome! You already have gotten quite a few answers but I give you my input anyway ;) If you mean the time to learn it, I needed about three hours to familiarize myself with the systems and to learn the startup procedure by heart. But I already had lots of chopper experience with Longbow, so flying this thing wasn't a problem. And of course the production note videos helped a lot. I'm a visual learner and I memorize things best when I see them, instead of reading about them. And about the startup procedure itself: I timed it yesterday. I needed 2 minutes and 46 seconds from flipping the first switch to lifting it into the air and retracting gears at full combat readyness. Most of the startup time is used up by spooling up the APU and the engines and by waiting for the HUD to get ready. That can't be accelerated. In the meantime you have plenty of time to activate the other systems while keeping an eye on the RPM and temperatures. I'm running WinXP on an AMD 3.2 GHz Dual Core with 2GB of RAM and an Ati 3850 512 GPU. I get smooth frame rates (25+) pretty much all of the time, at max details and 1920x1200 resolution. During some missions with lots of units on the battlefield I get little loading freezes once in a while. But they aren't too bad and gone pretty quickly. In over 30 hours logged in the game, I only had one crash to desktop, which probably was a result of my video card getting too hot (I have to clean it from dust). Otherwise this is probably one of the most bug free pieces of software I ever had the pleasure to deal with, which is remarkable considering the complexity of it.
  17. I ordered this one today: Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X I'm a little bit sceptical about the low price of 30€ but it looks sturdy and you can seperate the thrust lever unit from the stick. I'll post my impressions once I had the chance to give it a whirl.
  18. I used Photoshop. No, I didn't follow an tutorials but it's pretty easy to achieve a look like that. The most important element are layers. They enable you to manipulate certain aspects of the picture without actually changing the base picture. I think Gimp is a free graphics software that also supports layers. What I basically did with these shots: 1. Add black bars as seperate layers so I could slew the picture in the background for the perfect composition. 2. Make an elliptic selection on another layer that I inverted, filled black and blurred, so I could get the effect of the darkened edges. I changed the transparency of that layer depending of the mood of a particular shot 3. I added two adjustment layers that allowed me to increase brightness, contrast and saturation without actually changing the base image. 4. Another layer was simply filled with orange colour and made very transparent to add a little tint to the pictures. 5. Finally I created my own widescreen lensflare by making a gradient that changes from white to yellow and that becomes more transparent. Then I squashed it with the transform function of Photoshop to get the look I was aiming for. Then I changed the transparency and the location of that lensflare, again depending on the mood of a particular shot. Finally I added some default Photoshop lensflare for good measure and faded it. I know, this is a very rough description, and when you don't know the program it probably won't help you very much. But I hope you at least got an idea of my process. I there really is demand I could create a real tutorial with screenshots.
  19. I don't know for sure, but I think it's normal. Imagine the pilot forgets that autohover is still active and he disables the Flight Director. The sudden unwanted movements of the helicopter could lead to problems. I think that's a safety precaution.
  20. You know what's really sad? That Thrustmaster, of all companies, bundle their T.Flight HOTAS X stick with HawX instead of a proper sim... that's how far it's gone.
  21. I just saw a TV report about that event on WDR television in Germany. Of course it was shallow and the interviewer tried her best to make the participants looks like nutjobs. Granted, people like us ARE crazy, but still... :D
  22. That's not the problem. But when there are missions that absolutely require a wingman to even stand a chance then the wingman should better be up to the task. In the "Dusk" mission, for example, I had to trick my wingman into attacking the right targets by first destroying all the targets that he wasn't supposed to attack. Why? Because he wouldn't accept datalink targets because I couldn't properly lock in the heavy armor units during the twilight conditions. Instead he prefered to waste precious Vikhrs on trucks when I gave him an attack order. Or he would fly right into the mission zone using rockets and guns while getting shot down, even though he still had all his Vikhrs. This kind of micro managment is not realistic and makes some missions next to impossible. Don't get me wrong. I love this sim, but it definitely has its shortcomings that should be acknowledged.
  23. It's always a shame when a simulation as great as this comes along and then is ruined by frustrating trial-and-error mission design. I thought the Dusk mission in the Deployment campaign was nasty. But looks like I'm in for a treat.
  24. YEAH!! Today I finally finished the mission successfully. I ordered my wingman to hold in a safe position. Then I neutralized the AA units and the BMPs first with my Vikhrs and then I destroyed all the trucks and tents with the cannon. This left only the tanks as valid targets. That's when I ordered my wingman to engage our objective and he did so by firing his Vikhrs at the remaining tanks while I also finished one or two of them with my AP rounds. Done! I didn't even have to fire a single unguided rocket. p.s.: my laser also crapped out during the mission... I lased too often to get a lock, which sometimes worked when fire was illuminating the target sufficiently.
