So, It's been two years since I built my computer, and I've had a Rift S since just after release. It runs 40 fps except on the ground or on a busy map where it chugs down to 25 every so often. I want to try and squeeze some more life out of my rig but I don't have much experience with VR. Current set up. Core i7-7700k Geforce GTX 1080ti 16gb of DDR4 3000 WD Black 1TB 7200rpm HD I'm thinking of adding a WD - Black SN750 NVMe SSD or/and another 16gb of DDR4 3000 Anyone have suggestions for bumping up my VR performance?

Which direciton? VR or TrackIR+HOTAS for A10C?
Ginsu80 replied to wagdog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Been playing DCS since Black Shark, lugged a laptop and Warthog HOTAS around Iraq while working as a contractor. 5 mins of VR with a Rift S and I was sold, I'll never go back. -
Awesome missions, I'll definitely try them both. I spent all last night trying to get http://www.476vfightergroup.com NTTR mission flyable. I have a pretty decent rig but even with just the 60 or 70 ranges loaded it chugged along at 25-35fps in VR. I have PD set to 1.5 and MSAA set to 2x. I'm going to tweak some things tonight to see if I can get it to play better because the map and objects are awesome. I have a i7-7700k and a watercooled 1080ti. ROG motherboard but I'm not running on a SSD so maybe I should look into that upgrade. I did fly the pattern a few times last night and found that I was either too tight turning base to final or not tight enough. Not sure if it should be a smooth single turn or a turn onto base then another turn to final. If the consensus is to land per the Air Force break I practice that more, though I may be getting rusty on my carrier approaches. I haven't done one all week that's been decent.
-
Yeah I have that document, it’s what I’ve been using to try and model the approaches. I would just like to know which approaches are used most often for which airspace, some more down in the weeds details. I’m going to run the 3R approach and break tonight and see how I do. I’ll post a track if I’m still having issues.
-
I have a feeling 3R isn't used often for landing as the east break has a hill and the compressed final, but I could be wrong. Unfortunately the publicly available information on visual and instrument approaches doesn't give much insight. I'd love to talk to someone who could say which approaches were standard, basic ops stuff like that. Right now for south range I have the FTTYR departure to the ranges and then returning MINTT. Maybe I should do DREAM low up to the SALLY corridor. I really want to try some Veterans or Park night approaches but first I have to figure out this break. I feel like to make the turn I have to pull back hard on the stick to make the final which doesn't seem right. If anyone has any info on Nellis Ops let me know, and any tracks for approaches or vids would be great. I really want to make a F/A-18 campaign with ATIS and custom radio calls for NELLIS, Approach, and Range ops.
-
My understanding was F/A-18 drivers perform a carrier break even at a field to keep up the skills. I thought that would hold even at Nellis. As for reading the roads, I watched the track and turned too early but still the turn seemed tight. Not sure if I just need more practice or if I ended up on the downwind too close to the field. On a side note I figured out how to make an ATIS radio station for my missions using speech to text. Actually sounds just like a real ATIS.
-
I’ll have to try and practice after work. Are you flying a carrier break or an AF break?
-
No just overhead to the break, which is east for 3R. The turn to base and final is supposed to be north of Lake Meade Blvd but those turns are tight and the final leg is basically 5 seconds long at approach speed for the Hornet.
-
So I have been messing with a Nellis mission, running real procedures and approaches I found. The mission is set up using the FTTRY Low departure to Range 63, and MINTT recovery. After running the approaches and trying to stay within the limits I find I’m having a hard time turning within the confines described. Running the overhead pattern with an east break for 3R I can’t seem to turn final north of Lake Mead Blvd as described. I’m even flying 275KIAS which is under the 300KIAS prior to the break, then pulling hard and slowing down to approach speed fast. But even slow and dirty I find the turn to final is very tight. Anyone have any tips or info on how pilots do the Nellis pattern in the hornet

VR Cockpit Stutter/Double all of a sudden
Ginsu80 replied to Ginsu80's topic in Game Performance Bugs
So, a little more searching and I found the issue. I must have hit rctrl-numpad1. Rctrl-numpad4 fixed the issue. Back to smooth when moving my head. For the record it was FA-18 module Rift S headset. All new drivers for gcard and Rift. Not sure if it was module specific I only tried the Hornet before finding the fix. I have gotten really good performance with the Rift. So much so that I have become a huge VR guy. Was so Pissed when it went squirrely, so happy when I found the fix. DCS is how I relax from a high stress job. -
So, I did something, or something happened. I have a Rift S and a 1080 Ti, haven't had any problems at all with the set up. Then, today, when in the cockpit moving my head will give me double vision. Looking outside, moving my head no issues. Looking at the cockpit without moving my head, no issues. But when moving my head all the cockpit displays double. Stop moving my head smooth. I can't figure it out, and my forum search foo has failed. I have tried updates, deleting shaders, F10 zoom in and out and go back to cockpit view. So frustrated it's basically unplayable now.

I'm not, but ill have to take a look at it as soon as I get home. Thanks.

I was looking to make some NTTR training missions but I can't find any info on NTTR proceedures for airspace and range locations. Has anyone found any decent resources for mission planning. I try and make my missions as accurate as I can.
-
So I found the issue. While doing the Case 1 recovery instant mission, on landing I have a total weight of about 30k or less. Taking off with that weight, with trim set at 16 degrees is whats causing the plane to balloon. Refueling solved the problem, take off weight of 38k was perfect. Or refueling reset the games logic and the takeoff was normal because of that.
-
I'm not, just setting trim to the appropriate weight 16 for under 44k. Take off trim just zeros out the Stabs to 12 I thought. Should that make a difference?
-
So here is how it goes. Land, all good. Taxi to cat, set trim 16 degrees for under 44k, flaps to half launch bar down. Get set in the cat, launch bar up, power to mil and hands off the stick. I simulate the towel rack. Take the stroke and as soon as the wheels leave the deck the nose pitches up, past 8.1 alpha and keeps coming up. If my hand stays off the plane will loop. If I nose down with the stick I can keep it level but I have a hard time maintaining the correct altitude while doing a clearing turn. When I go flaps auto, because I'm forcing the nose down, the FCS takes over and the nose dives. It's a mess. But when I watch peoples videos of carrier take offs it looks smooth. If I can't figure it out I'll try to post a track with my control inputs when I get home.
-
So flaps full or half? I thought it was half. I'll try raising the flaps then lowering before taking off.
-
I seem to be missing something when conducting carrier take offs. I have been practicing using the Case 1 recover mission, I'll trap, taxi to the cat, set my take off trim for my weight, set to half flaps, and take the cat shot. But, the hornet will pitch up so hard I am almost full down on the stick. I see videos of other launches and they look great, smooth, just like the real thing. Am I missing a step? I tried it hands off and the hornet did a hands off loop before stalling out.
-
Ill have to try that when I get home. As for the mission, I'd love to post it but I'm a little nuts when it comes to the planning part. For instance I have been working on this worksheet to be added to a part of the mission brief. Why? Why not.
-
I had a mission I set up trying to simulate cyclic operations on the Stennis. It's an airfield strike with 4 sections tasked with different parts of the strike like SEAD, precision bombing, CAP, et al. When coming back from the strike this last time, my player controlled section ended up 3rd to land in the pattern. What was strange is turning in for the initial on the break number 1 was trapping, and I happened to be looking in the right spot in VR, and I caught the AI aircraft getting an LSO grade. Number two to land got an LSO grade as well but no matter how I tried I could not duplicate it for player aircraft.

Anyone know what procedure this is for? Fuel leak, turbine stall?

Roger I am using the manual uncage via mouse. What I was saying is I had the electical uncage button tied to my throttle pinky switch but I had to keep it pressed to get it uncaged and that didn't seem like it was right, so I switched it to a rocker. Forward is caged center or back uncaged. My understanding is you shouldn't fly with it uncaged and floating so I manually (mechanically) uncage. Pipper on target and red light on sight for radar, rocker neutral to electrically uncage, and engage. I have been able to get high deflection hits out even before the reticule begins to grow but it doesn't feel like I'm doing it correctly.
-
The only button I can find seems to cage it electrically when pressed. I have been manually uncaging and leaving the switch pressed keeping it caged. Piper on target flipping the switch to uncage and the engaging. Not sure if this is correct. I have noticed I have been able to generate hits out past the .2nm range where the lock is solid and the pipper trembles. Still can't seem to get anything except head to head or high deflection shots on the mig 15. Also no problems generating hits close to the ground I'm guessing the ground clutter issue isn't modeled yet.
-
Does anyone have any info on how to properly use the A40 sight and the weapons? I'm unsure of the cage uncage sight system or how to you the GAR missiles. From stRting in the air I can get the sight to track though it doesn't seem right as it is I my generating hits from .1 to .2 nautical miles. From cold start nothing seems to work correctly and the missle employment I have never gotten to work. Nor can I get the air ground to generate hits.

My only gripe with this new patch is how big will it be to download? I fly from Iraq and a 1gb download takes f....o....r....e....v....e....r. Ah well, it's worth it.
