  1. Sorry to burst your bubble, but they said the new explosion effects were not going to be available right at release.

     

    But it will be interesting to see if there is an FPS increase anyways.

     

    exactly. :) :thumbup: I always loved the 97 effect and for the most part, was ok with its fps. But the 87 was the more problematic one with major stuttering...so looking forward to see how it will go. :)

  2. oh well.... I guess I have to wait for the release on steam. No worries. I don't mind buying them at full price. Will be worth the hours and hours of entertainment it will provide. :) Been waiting on 1.5 for buying the Mig 15 as well. So got to be prepared for a big DCS purchase. ;)

     

    Just excited that it is finally almost here. :D Can't wait to check out that new eye candy. First thing I am doing is dropping a CBU 87. :p

  3. Fantastic vid. Great trip down memory lane indeed. I remember only having played Janes IAF in my grade 8. I remember playing a demo in india included on one of the magazines for flanker 2. Then...completely forgot about it until I found flanker 2.5 another two years later while trying to buy a game for my Bday at a games store. Bought it right away. Couldn't handle it too well on a Pentium 3 with S3 graphics 64MB. Then moved to canada and got to play flanker 2.5 relatively better on a Pentium 4 and Geforce Ti 4200. Next year realized that LOMAC was in development and since then followed ED and their products along. I still want to re-create that old school first LOMAC trailer in DCS 2 engine. Would be fantastic to do a side by side of that. :D

  4. If we were to drop a bomb or otherwise destroy a power station in the area of a city can we expect that particular city or section of the map served by that power station to go dark at night?

     

    Haha! That would be awesome. But unlikely though...unless they model a power grid system..

    Q for next time:: Wags.... are the trains now editable objects? Can they be manually placed and scheduled as mission objects that can be destroyed as part of missions? As object transport etc??

  5. How will the buildings in the new map work in terms of damage model??? Can u place objects in building...let's say an igla...then can u basically bomb it ...damaging the building...and then once it gets damaged...will it slowly crumble with the current fixed animation?? Or will it break into pieces. Will the unit falling from that height kill the igla?

  6. OMG! I can't get over how freaking fantastic the missile exhaust/smoke looks/animates. Watch at 26:45 for the last stream./// the bellowing smoke...the way it shapes...the way it appears to disperse is just freaking brilliant. wow!!! You do take ur own time ED...but damn u do one hell of a fantastic job. Can't wait to see how the weather engine/graphics further develop.

     

    I know explosion/smoke fx are still wip. Here's hoping ED's fantastic team puts in similar attention to detail for wind/velocity effects on aircraft/object trajectory/direction. Looking forward to seeing more on this end for the upcoming streams. Is this something under consideration?

  7. Got to keep in mind that some of that stuff may be experiments that may or may not ever see the public release. If I recall correctly, the mustang was being worked on by ED way before DCS 1 was even released (according to Dima's AFM video during the WWII kickstarter series)... so whether or not it will be finished anytime soon is anyone's guess. But yes...the F-15 was already mentioned to being considered as a full fidelity module.. My interest is in knowing how will they differentiate the FC3 version to the DCS version (if and when it happens) for multiplayer etc.

  8. Can we also perhaps get a view of how the depth of field/heat haze/blur/lens flare+dust effects will work? Thank u so much for leaving it as an option for graphicophiles like myself. I know purists may despise them. But I am glad these are being considered for the mainstream graphics appeal.

    Thats it... I have to hibernate DCS till 2.0 and those updates now. I can't deal with the Su33 dipping into the deck on the Kuznetsov after reading this. :)

     

    But hey... great update though. A lot of fantastic new features. Only disappointment is the wait. I guess now it is at a really "Its done when its done". Fair enough...lets just hope its soon. :)

  10. Keep in mind that apparently almost 90% of DCS players (myself included) just play solo. So, fragmentation isn't an issue. Not to mention, its crazy to demand everything for free. It takes a lot of work to make something like this...and it deserves to be paid content. DCSworld free will still have the current terrain with EDGE for free. Not to mention, ED's history with frequent and huge sales, it is unreasonable to demand them to give everything away for free. If you don't want to pay what it costs (when it is actually revealed), wait for a sale or something. But, don't demand them to give stuff away just because you don't want to spend $40.

     

    Btw..regarding comparison to FSX.... look at the number of terrain paid mods for FSX. A lot of them are in the $40 range. That just includes a certain region/city with its airports at ultra high details.

    We have about six weeks left to the end of the first half of the year. So hopefully if everything goes as planned, we might see it at any point in the next six weeks.

    Hard to say. Don't get me wrong...I am waiting just for the release of 2.0. Stopped playing DCS until then...lol... refuse to play it having seen how amazing 2.0 looks. But, time has shown again and again that ED will not release anything early...so be prepared for a delay if they don't feel 100% confident.
