  1. Oh my god learning to fly the Huey is the most frustrating experience I have had in quite some time. I'm practising landings after partially giving up on hovering, and I am really struggling to keep control during the transitional period

I was nearing ragequit level so I thought I would stop and breathe :) When I am less ashamed of my flying I may upload a track.

Forget the Huey for learning to fly, best advice I can give.

Black Shark is absolutely the way to go, once you've gotten the trim down correct, it requires a fraction of the effort to master landing and takeoff.

Once I could fly BS, I had no difficulty transitioning to the Huey.

I'm withdrawing my "poor advice" comment. I'll just note that many of the forum users are absolutely hardcore, while well meaning and enthusiastic, and forget what it's like to be a noob.

  2. I was wondering if there are any plans to implement different features in the cockpit, like fogging up, icing up, and pilot heating/cooling. I know ALL the cabin controls are clickable/moveable, but they do nothing. I was hoping that there would be these features like in A2A's accusim ..

    What for?

  3. Tried the free TF-51 last night, and it blew me away. My stomach lifted a little when the wheels left the ground, fantastic feeling of flight. Now I'm really looking forward to RRG Europe scenario.

HOWEVER, if the focus on props is causing significant delays in the supply of a real jet, this is a shame, can't see anyone else doing them outside DCS.

  4. Nope. Sometimes I think about building a retro box and finding a CRT, but I watch youtube clips of old sims until the urge leaves.

Besides, eventually you'll get the opportunity to be nostalgic about today's sims.

  5. I'm excited for Edge/Nevada, but I am concerned about how they will affect performance. I run DCS on my laptop and it runs well right now but I don't know how much more she can take. Would be a shame to lose a smooth-running DCS for an overhaul upgrade.

I was under the impression that Edge will run faster, taking full advantage of all cores in a CPU. If it runs even slower than 1.26, I will officially be giving up on DCS World.

  6. Luthier has been wanting to make a Korea flight sim for years, he actually mentioned it could be possible in the Kickstarter. So, if this project is a success we will surely see more theaters/planes and what not and possibly other "near" conflicts as the Korean War.

Fingers crossed, this is why I kicked in $40 for the KS, despite not being very interested in flying Europe 44.

My dream sim covers carrier ops in Korea in DCS detail, with helicopter rescue missions also.

  7. How this can prevent you from flying? The stick was limp only outside DCS.

After I exploded and exited the mission, the stick would lose FFB and it would not restore with a new mission. This is with an older version of BS2, so I hope that when I reinstall the latest it's cleared up.

  8. about 4 hours. After that it good more boring and weird by the minute. They're not gonna waste another couple hours of my life with just polished graphics. :music_whistling:

My understanding is that it is not just a cosmetic makeover, but that whole sections have been worked over for playability. Same story, different game maybe.

  9. To the OP, TIR is great, particularly if you're flying a dogfight sim like Il-2 or RoF - my kill ratio jumped instantly the first time I used it. It's like going from keyboard to joystick in terms of the difference it makes to situational awareness.

But you certainly don't 'need' it to enjoy A-10.

Something I'd suggest to other posters - if you need to recentre frequently, or if you're finding that TIR involves unnatural head movements - fix your profiles. I can get up and make coffee, come back and still be centred, and the most my head moves from rest is to point my nose at the LCD frame.

  10. there must be a lot of people sitting alone in their chamber, flying and cursing (or even not)...is that really all they want?

    Yep.

I've played multiplayer (in other sims), and while it's fun and exciting, 99% of the time I just want to escape pressures of real life and pretend I'm Russian chopper pilot, play as and when I want.

  11. Cheers, no I'm not running windowed, and wouldn't normally alt-tab out.

I think the Windows install is corrupted, it's a restored image file and I've remembered it gave an indecipherable controller-related error message when I restored it.

I'm trying another image file with RoF on it, stick is working fine, so will need to do a fresh install of Win and BS at some point - a new patch has just come out, so timely.

  12. There is also the option to change your head position in the cockpit, so you could lower it slightly if that might help, which becomes the default position when you centre TIR.

From memory, eyepoint under Server.lua was the configuration to change (obviously back it up first)
