  1. Just print this out and keep it beside you while reading. It helped me tremendously. So you dont have to scroll back and forth within the flight manual. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61313&highlight=acronym
  2. If DCS A10 is really being used by the USAF to train their pilots, it would be interesting to know how they handle visibly looking for their targerts in the sim...Something tells me they have much better hardware to make up for this and a far different game build than what we get commerically but surely they suffer from some of the same problems we do since its all on computer monitors. How do they train for that in simulation?
  3. Geskes, I was making a smilar but more general argument earlier regarding infantry not sitting out in the open when being straffed upon. Clearly this shouldn't happen. Franky, not seeing the target doesnt bother me so much. It makes sense of course. It just in the mission I was playing, I was expeted to hit 100% of the targets...including infantry. So blowing away 800 rounds of the cannon on several passes looking for small little camo men doesnt seem to be a smart strategic move even IRL. I'd chalk it up more on bad mission design. I hope this is a common mission goal in the campaign(s). I'm was also starting to wonder if the HE radius is far enough in game. I havent seen any complaints about it so I guess its fine.
  4. Yea but do you fire guns at over 5K feet in the air? I would start my dive from that high. So, I'd have an 'idea' as to where the target is and when low enough, I'd change my flight path when I spot the target. So the image above may show its tough to spot a human target, but I dont know if anyone would be firing guns from that high. My problem is still getting 1K above ground, <1 NM and still seeing your target.
  5. Well I'm playing at 1920x1200 which is just about as good as you can get. I cant see infantry by the naked eye unless I'm almost on top of them (<1 nm) and a few hundred feet in the air. I see them better when zoomed in of course. I agree with many posts that screen details takes away from our RL abilities and applying it to within the game. Of course in any combat situation in RL....what infantry is going to be stupid enough to stand out in the open while CAS aircraft are performing straffing runs. They would be running their asses off....that makes for an easy to find target. In this game...they stand there making them near impossible to spot. I would hope in all cases with DCS and hopefully custom missions developed by the community that I'm not forced to knock out 100% of these mini targets in order to accomplish a mission or priority target. This was a bit frustrating with the first instant action mission (havent tried others yet)
  6. Yea I used F10 a lot in BS to find my target to compensate for the lack of communication on target location from friendlies you might otherwise get.
  7. So I've been practicing my strafing runs on soft targets and I was getting frustrated because I can't see my targets in normal zoom mode. I had to zoom in as far as I can on my HUD too see my target so I can line up the piper. This problem of seeing my target seems a bit realistic to me but how in the world would a real pilot see his target? Zooming is my only choice and seems like a cheat. Am I just overeacting here? I've used my TGP to search for infantry but this seems a little over the top when attacking a target like this. Not only that but even when I use this method, the SPI marker gets overwritten by the reticle so even this isnt very effective since I loose my target location.
  8. I'm not sure if this is still a topic of discussion anywhere else but as of Beta 3, I'm still getting the occasional out of focus TGP. This is when in normal camera mode....not FLIR. Do I need to record this or take a screenshot or has it been determined that this is the accepted behavior?
  9. I read mine at work when I had spare time... :)
  10. It worked!....Thanks everyone!
  11. Frederf, thanks for the feedback. I think I was misunderstanding how to set the SPI with the TGP. I thought when something was being lased with the TGP it was making it the SPI. As it wasnt, the SPI was still the steerpoint as you said. Thanks again! +1
  12. Nope. I just checked and The China Hat forward is mapped to the China hat on my TM Hog HOTAS. Is there a different set of dependencies or settings I need to prevent this from happening?
  13. RE: This topic. Can someone please tell me why when I designate a target with my TGP, mark it, then mave to SOI maverick and then presss China Hat Forward long as directed, that the TGP ends up going back to my steerpoint. Its pissing me off :( China hat forward long says to slave all senors to the SPI regardless of what your SOI is.
  14. I've seen some TM elite rudders on ebay but dont they use a gameport connection?
  15. Sov13t, Good point. Another thing to consider is that the dumb things are under the desk...you hardly ever see them. I just keep reading conflicting reviews about the original saitek pedals and their sturdiness. One person loves them while another hates them for being too "delicate". I cant imagine having to be hard on them....its just yaw control for crying out loud.
  16. ugh..end of the year...I guess ill have to settle for something else. What an untapped market too. There's not much to choose from.
  17. Has anyone heard anything about the Saitek COMBAT rudder pedals? The last official piece of information was back in July or so and I dont even see one online vendor setting up presales. I have my TM Warthog HOTAS but I cant do jack S without rudders and I dont want to buy the previous Saitek Rudder... http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/compedals.html
  18. Yes, I got it from the Flight Manual. I'm assuming most people like me are reading a soft copy and scrolling all the way down to look up an acronym and scroling back to their original page. This is time consuming and painful, especially if you dont know most of them. So I grabbed the Flight Manual page text and set it up in excel for print. So I keep it nearby for a quicker lookup when I need to.
  19. Has anyone tried the track IR5 after having the 4? Worth the upgrade?
  20. Sorry if this has already been provided but I'm offering an acronym checklist to use while reading the flight manual. I'm tired of referencing the end of the flight manual when I run across yet another acronym I dont know. This only occurs like every other sentence....geez... Anyway, its nice to have this by your side when reading the FM. Acronyms.zip
  21. kylania, I'm assuming your talking about the Thrusmaster WH? If so where did you get it? I see its being sold by a few small online retailers but none of them have it in stock.
  22. Nevermind. I finally got it to show....Third times a charm I guess.
  23. I just downloaded the new beta patch and right clicked on the file and clicked run as administrator. Running Vista 64 bit. My mouse pointer goes active but nothing happens. I look in the task manager processes tab and I see two new processes, one of the for exe and the other is a tmp. They eventually go away after several minutes. I dont see any windows UI prompt though asking me if I want to install the patch like you would receive for any other game. Did the patch install or is something wrong here? I'm guessing its the latter.
  24. Well I hit the three recon zones several times after many attempts and cycling throughh the F2 key, I'm pretty sure there wasnt an Apache in flight. I thougt perhaps the Abrams might have been taking out allies too. Should I maybe just haul through the recon zones so the mission time is shorter in case allies are getting destroyed elsewhere?
  25. anyone? :-/ Maybe give me some hints on looking it up in the campaign builder? Its where I found the Primary status given to the abrams unit but Im not understanding how to get the result score up.
