  1. Probably an ECM pod such as the MSP-418K or an Israeli Elta jammer.
  2. You know, I've looked at that photo so many times, and never noticed! Great eye FF :) Display models like this one need to be taken with a large grain of salt, especially at AeroIndia which always seems to have more than its share of terribly inaccurate workmanship. However this one is remarkably good otherwise and was displayed at the MiG booth AFAIK, so it is intriguing...
  3. That Tu-160 would still rock as an AI-only model!
  4. Don't try the final part of the procedure with any player aircraft other than the MiG-29 and Su-33 though, that would a shame ;)
  5. Yes, we do! However, we would also suggest that you turn it into a what-if F-15J skin, because it sure reminds us of the dark-blue/blue paintjob on Japanese F-2A's and F-4EJ's. It's a mud-mover scheme by the JASDF's definition, but it would look gorgeous. If you inverted the light and dark patches of the current pattern you'd almost be there, save for the meatballs ;) Another suggestion, I don't think anyone has updated the very cool Ferris schemes for the Eagle to be compatible with Walmis' new model yet, *hint* *hint* :D
  6. Now that would rock! I hope this is a real mod, very good find :)
  7. Well, maybe you should stop writing highly ambiguous posts that "assume" the other board members are clairvoyant, then perhaps people will stop giving you grief  Of course noone will know shit if said shit is going on behind their backs - and your initial post was certainly worded in a way that was very easy to misunderstand without the proper context.
  8. Good points, there is nothing more frustrating than inconsistencies, of whatever nature. One problem with ED's sims seems to be that new versions introduce clever features which unfortunately take quite some time to filter down to older aircraft or older parts of the sim (take the AFM, for example).
  9. Ah, but the Falcons are also likely to have been a good bit more expensive. IMHO the SMT upgrade has some merit for Poland even now, with the F-16s, the added air to ground capabilities might enable them to get rid of the Su-22s which surely can't be cheap to operate.
  10. Partially wrong - as others have pointed out, the German F-4s use the APG-65, however the Japanese F-4EJ Kai uses the APG-66 if I'm not mistaken.
  11. I can't say I'm surprised that you'd like that one - you first brought it up yourself a few months ago ;) I just allowed myself to bring it back onto the collective agenda, with a new editor actually being worked on now :)
  12. Some more ideas: - cut/copy/paste functions for flights, units etc., this would speed up certain mission building tasks - more accurate ETA values for waypoints, this would dramatically cut down on the amount of testing required to get the timing of various events right - flight groups with multiple human pilots, without a doubt a tremendous improvement when creating multiplayer missions! In general, the editor should preferably stop treating human pilots any different than AI pilots.
  13. To be honest, I'm quite satisfied with ED's progress in terms of avionics - a clickable 3D cockpit and switchology that actually means something (i.e. the systems behind the switches are modelled in exacting detail rather than in abreviated form and being pretty much nothing more than an excuse for modelling the switch) will be introduced with BS and all of their subsequent products can be expected to be of similar quality. We've already got an outstanding flight-/damage-model and the WAFM also seems to be on track, so the physics, avionics and weapons modelling aspects are pretty much taken care of. The next things for ED to tackle are communications (LOMAC was a big improvement over the Flanker series in this regard, but then again that was very easy to accomplish indeed ;) ), the ever present AI problem and - depending on how the new mission editor turns out - a dynamic campaign.
  14. LOL! Hear, Hear :D However, in the interest of balance and realism I don't see the problem with a Desert Storm era sim.
  15. Thing is, that will put many people's frame rates down to 10 aswell. This mod might be a rather useful work around for some players.
  16. Oh, but apart from being a decent achievement for the Russian industry this new system does not waste any hardpoints ;) The new MiG is shaping up very nicely indeed. The only trouble I can see is weight growth and perhaps drag with all those gadgets aboard. RSK MiG is definitely back, didn't look like it just a few years ago.
  17. Yes, avoid ALT-Tab as best you can when playing LOMAC. This is but one of the graphical artifacts it causes - it screws up other models and textures (including the default ones) just as badly.
  18. Excellent find Kusch, thanks for sharing :) Them's useful bumps!
  19. Looks superb sofar, and I sure like that shark skin :)
  20. I concur, a pair of aircraft up to Ka-50 standards should be completely feasible for a completely new sim (compared to an add-on). LOMAC took the better part of 4 years to see the light of day, that should be ample time.
  21. Completely Russian, AFAIK. As you said, it is a bog-standard MK2, which is also why the deliveries are taking place so fast.
  22. That's an interesting idea, the OVT was shown with wingtip missile rails once or twice. However, no similar contraption could be seen on its wingtips when the aircraft visited the ILA exhibition last year. It doesn't seem to look much like an attachment either and a wingtip missile rail would block the ECM emitters anyway. Probably the reason why it is no longer displayed on the MiG-29OVT. Personally, I'm inclined to believe it is a missile warning system sofar.
  23. I second that about the Hornet. And the Mirage2000C atleast made it into 'might be feasible soon' category :) No word on the MiG-29K though?
  24. The thing is to keep in mind is that Rust WAS detected before entering Soviet airspace and later escorted by Mi-24s for part of his flight. What caused the heads to roll is that noone seemed able to come to a decision about what course of action to take with this (obviously non-military) intruder. I suppose the outrage over the KAL007 shoot-down only a few years earlier can be blamed for the hesitation to accept resposibility by those in charge. As for India's MRCA competition, there most certainly are Western competitors, namely the Gripen, the F-16E, the F/A-18E and even (now that the Mirage2000-5 is out of production) the Rafale. Reports are conflicting about whether the Eurofighter Typhoon is being offered, but needless to say this has become quite a high-profile competition compared to what was originally intended (more Mirage2000s, to be precise ;) ). To be frank, it has come to the point where purchasing additional batches of Su-30MKIs would seem more sensible. The Rafale and the Super Hornet are overkill and to a certain extent duplicate the existing Flankers in terms of capabilities, not to mention the the price tag. Given the positive zoo of different aircraft types the IAF operates their logistics would definitely improve aswell.
  25. Most of the camo patterns on Russian Su-27s (both real and virtual) are basically variations of the same standard pattern with various degrees of weathering and perhaps a sharkmouth or some similar art. However, some schemes have recently surfaced that also introduce a different basic pattern: http://racc.com.sapo.pt/su27/russia4_side.gif http://racc.com.sapo.pt/su27/russia4_top.gif http://scalemodels.spb.ru/modules/photo/viewcat.php?cid=2 (the last one is a walk-around of the real aircraft), aswell as this one: http://www.foxbat.ru/maks/lipetsk2006/index.php?picid=lipetsk2006103 http://www.foxbat.ru/maks/lipetsk2006/lipetsk2006_01.htm (Plenty of photos of 01, particularly on pages 9 and 10. There might be even more on the airforce.ru forums, but I'm to lazy to search.) Has anyone already created any of these? If so, where can I find them, and if not, is somebody prepared to make them? ;)
