Yep exactly. Then bump up the custom multiplier per app setting to squeeze out some more resolution. Using a amd 6900 xt so it copes very well with the higher resolution.

Once I have created a maximum of 10 TOO targets is there anyway to then delete them? I go into the CAS page, recall and they do not even show up, but once on the map and cycling through they are all still present. This basically means that once you have used 10 TOO points you cannot use any more until you change aircraft. Even landing, shutting down and doing a restart does not clear them. This seems very confusing. I am not referring to points created in the f10 map, as they actually do show up in the cas page, but points created in the air by marking with the tpod and TOO.

Just tried this now in av8b over caucuses, sunrise, with clouds and all high settings on dcs. Steam resolution at native for the G2 and per app steam multiplier at 125%. My FPS is pretty similar at 50 to 60 FPS, but a definite improvement on frame times for the gpu which is actually what i am most interested in improving. They are now consistent below 14.

Could be the bios update. It will have reset your overclock and any other settings. Possibly you missed one when you reloaded it? I had to reselect for example the setting for Re-size bar had been disabled when i updated the bios, meaning SAM wasnt activated. There was a few other things as well that nearly caught me out with my overclock. All had to be re-done.
-
Have you updated your BIOS recently? I checked mine a couple days ago and was a couple of new firmwares since i last did it. A quick download, reboot with the new update via usb and it may help. After i did mine i noticed some slight improvements in the general efficiency of my machine.
-
Gotta love dcs dropping updates! Its a constant arms race against the machine. Out of interest what is your thinking with undervolting the GPU? I'm experimenting with different settings and currently running a gpu overclock done through adrenaline, as well as slight OC on the cpu in bios. Performance is pretty dsmbed good now. Not sure if I noticed much difference between undervolt and OC but I'll have to look closer.

Yes there are just so many variables. I have the steam vr res set to around 2800x2600 (something like that), then used all the msaa from amd. All switched off in dcs, with just some antisopotric filter. My test mission out of Beirut with low sun, clouds, shadows and hight settings, I am now getting steady 60fps over the trees and hills and 45-47 lownover central Beirut and all very smooth, even looking out the side. I'm very impressed. It seems like there are many different ways to get the results. The only thing I need to see if I can tweak out is the jagged edges. Not sure yet if it's possible. It's not a huge issue but would be nice to improve it.

Update to add that fps is significantly better than 30. My 200% was of course not the same and lower it to 50% gives something closer to g2 native resolution of 2160x2160 per eye, and 90% 3000x2932. A little over native resolution seems to be better giving fps in 60s low level. All very confusing with resolution numbers.

I got it revived and another ssd in and working. I did a bit of testing, basically maxing out as much as I i can with weather, clouds shadows, resolution at 200% with G2 and flying ka50 low from Beirut over the hills. It looked absolutely amazing. Steady at 30fps low down in what is about as demanding an environment for a GPU as dcs has. I played about a bit, but hartsblades settings seem to be pretty much on the money. I will experiment with a bit of an overclock and a few other things. I get some stutters low over the cities but nothing at all I can't live with. The frame rates stay around 30 so I'm not sure what it is that stutters yet. Overall I'm absolutely thrilled with the 6900.

It looked absolutely awesome right up until the moment I changed my psu and forgot to swap out the cable to the sata ssd! Teds top tip - ALWAYS use ALL the cables provided when installing a new psu. It took me about 24 hours to work out why my pc wasn’t starting. When I eventually did, I found out my ssd was fried and that was the ssd with 1tb of dcs and MSFS all gone. I installed a new one and now waiting for the download to finish. Killing the time with a bottle of wine so I’m sure it’s gonna look even better when I get back on. No motion smoothing needed that’s for sure. @Hartsbladei see you went with all application msaa and anti aliasing. Did you find this to be a big issue with amd controlled msaa.?

I got back from work last night and collected the 6900xt. Quick install and fired it up. After an initial bit of stupidity, where I'd forgotten to remove all the nvidia stuff, I got it going. I tried a few settings and used Hartsblade recommendations. Fired up dcs and harrier in PG with a load of weather and WOW! I never realised dcs could look that good in vr. No stutters, smooth as butter and just a wonderful experience. It was very late as I knew I wouldn't sleep until I'd got it working so at 2am I had to call it a day. I realised my PSU is only 650w so probably today I need to fix that and throw in an 850w. Hige thanks for your tips guys. Helped me out no end and allowed me to get up and running very quickly in totally unknown terrain.

Excellent. Thank you as well. Interesting to see many different approaches. I've also read a lot of people recommend to switch off motion smoothing. Hopefully this evening I'll get to try it out. I think I've got some really useful tips here of some of the major areas to focus on to get going. You've all probably saved me hours and hours of fiddling around and cursing. If I can get those kind of results I'll be more than happy.

Thanks very much for this. That really helps. I should be receiving it now Thursday evening when I get back from work, so hopefully now I have some good starting point from which I can refer to and tweak.

Awesome. Thanks very much. I'll let you know when I get it later on in the week. What are your initial impressions and feelings about using all AMD setup? How has your experience been with it, especially with the the g2?

I finally cracked after watching the 3080 I ordered last November get more and more delayed and uncertain, I snagged an RX6900XT. I still have my 3080 on order at a good price and won't cancel, but I wanted to finally retire my 2060 for VR (g2) . I have an AMD 5950 CPU and 64gb 3.6ghz RAM so I really hope this is finally going to be something I can get some food vr performance and settings out of. Anyone else using 6900xt care to share any tips and settings or anything that I should be aware of to get going? It should arrive in a couple of days. If its good and works well i will probably sell the 3080 unopened when it eventually comes.
-
Has anyone here any direct real life experience in a 6900xt vs RTX3080 in dcs with VR? Ive had a 3080 on order since last November and it just keeps getting pushed further and further back with no delivery time in sight. The plus side is that i got it locked in to a very good price back in November last year, but I’m getting really impatient. 6900xt are now available here and i could get one within a couple of days, BUT, it is almost twice the price i have for the 3080. I’m reading lots of good things about both but if there was any real discernible advantage to the 6900 i might be able to justify to myself getting that.

I'm pretty sure it's quite module dependent. I've had some success in the ka50 without too many issues, but the a10 is a nightmare, constantly interfering with controls and basically unusable now. I wonder how difficult it would be for ED to implement a code to allow for simple calibration and hide/show with a gesture or hot key?

I am also using the G2, and like others very interested to see how this develops. I am not disappointed so far as a very early adopter, and see it very much as a work in progress to help improve our community. As i mentioned in my previous post, all of the potential is definitely there and we can see already the possibilities. In my view its implementation just needs to simplified somewhat. For what its worth, I am already using with it with a certain amount of success in DCS. After the summer I might dive into a bit of coding to see also what is possible although my experience in this is more than a little limited! Starting simply with perhaps just 2 gestures and a mouse type of function, and reducing the sensitivity of the movement. My suggestion would be just to have a pointed index finger as a gesture to show the laser pointer and a thumb movement as a right click and trigger gesture as left click. One further gesture may be needed to hide the hands or disable the function somehow to prevent control interference. I definitely feel this is not as far from being fairly complete solution as some have described on various forums. Keep up the good work and please keep posting feedback and updates. There are many of us who are extremely positive and realistic to the progress of this.

I got my Leapmotion controller today. After reading a lot online and on this forum, i really was not expecting much at all, and it was more out of interest than anything else. I had seen ED were starting to support it, but again fairly low expectations. However I was somewhat surprised and positively surprised at that. I plugged it in straight away. A very simple process, requiring one USB plug, stuck the controller onto the front of my reverb g2, downloaded the software and fired up dcs. Basically it worked straight away. My hands visible, moving and doing pretty much what i told them to do. I was, after a little practice able to fairly easily get around the cockpit and activate all the switches. I did a full start up, a short flight with some a2g missiles operating a few systems, and a full shutdown after, all just using the leapmotion. I had no issues at all with the hands interfering with the controls as I am using physical controls. As a very early implentation into DCS I was pretty impressed. There are certainly plenty of areas for improvement, but based on my test, nothing that shouldn’t be possible with some coding and firmware. Unfortunately I have zero experience in any of this and will be relying on community developments and DCS updates. The first thing that probably it needs, and quite possibly exists already, is a simple way to customize the control gestures. The only thing really we need for dcs is to be able to point a finger and click. This is basically possible right now, but there are so many other gestures it picks up, it can get a bit confused and start to wander. I did find it a little too sensitive, so a way to dial this way down would be a big improvement. I would ideally like to have the option of effectively just using this as a mouse. A pointed finger could therefore physically move certain switches and buttons and those that can’t be reached the laser pointer from a finger and a simple click will be perfect. All in all I am absolutely thrilled DCS has picked this up and I think if they can make some small adjustments to the implementation within DCS it is going to be pretty much a standard for anyone using VR. It has massive potential, and seems to be a relatively low hanging fruit to get working well fairly quickly. For me already, my hand controllers are now ditched and i will be only using the hand tracking. For those times I can’t get it exactly right, I still have the mouse. Can’t wait to see how this progresses.

thats great to hear. The extra immersion it will bring to dcs will really be a fantastic edition to an already top notch simulator.
-
Are folks starting to get this to work effectively now? This would be a fairly significant progression for dcs if it can work. I'm seriously considering diving in myself now and giving it a go as it seems to be gaining more traction. I assume I need to purchase the vr mount and the leap motion controller together then just download the software and start fighting with it! There is so much potential in this and its quite amazing ED aren't further along with implentation of this. Captoglove seems like an overpriced solution that will possibly be very soon redundant anyway with development of hand tracking in headsets.
-
Yeah I tried that as well through steam vr but it still shuts them down. I'll have to scratch my head and check some more stuff in file pathways perhaps.
-
I've tried everything I can think of through all the settings to ensure it's set to "never shut down", through steam and wmr, but still after 15 mins my controllers shut down and if I hit the windows button my dcs will crash. Anyone have experience or a solution on this? Due to this issue I basically haven't been using the g2 controllers at all recently and just use the mouse, but I want to get them working again as its just a better way than using the mouse to click around the cockpit, especially in helos. Thanks.
-
So since yesterday I’m having the exact same issue. G2, non steam dcs, pretty much exactly 30 mins each time and steam VFR just crashes and closes down. All started I think since last updates. Seriously frustrating and ive tried everything I can think of to no avail. anyone work out what is actually causing this and any decent practical solution?

Ah yes..perfect thanks. I’m the stupid one! It’s been a while since I flew the harrier and with all the other small changes I’m starting over again. ..I’d somehow forgotten about the parking brake.
