  1. I’ve been testing the 3080 for a couple of weeks now and will go back to the 6900xt. the 3080 is mostly very good but it has a few glitches and this is frustrating. Especially in mp when it get more populated the vram doesn’t seem to keep up. Stutters, occasional crashes and FPS drops. I never experienced this on the 6900xt. That being said when working as it should the image is possibly better in vr in the 3080, so I need to go back to tweaking the 6900xt and see what I get.
  2. We are often too quick to complain and too slow to praise, so praise where praise is due to ED for updating the implication of leapmotion in dcs. A few of us had been discussing it and asking for a few simple modifications from the dcs side. Folks like @BIGNEWYanswered in the discussions and promised to look into it. Not sure when it got updated or how I missed it had been updated but today I noticed some new features including the all important ability to not let it interfere with the controls. I have just been able to successfully use it in the a10c2 and for me it is a bit of a game changer. Thank you ED for listening and following up. For me this is what really sets dcs apart from all other sims. I genuinely feel they interact and react to our requests and discussions and share many of the same interests as all other users in making dcs work as well as it possibly can.
  3. I agree. My 6900xt works great with motion vector and motion smoothing. Only msaa in mp it doesn't like. My 3080 manages msaa without too much problem though. The 6900XT is a beast and I'm still a big fan. Still testing and comparing and there's certainly some advantages with the amd. If only I could use msaa reliably it would be case closed.
  4. I've noticed with my 3080 that fpsvr really screws up things! To the point now I have deactivated it as when it's active I get noticeably more stutters. I never had this with my 6900xt. My observations now using both 6900xt and 3080 are that the 3080 produces better visuals due to fastwe vram but has less headroom due to less total ram. My 3080 is also constantly close to maxed but when it's working its nicer than the amd. The amd won't play with msaa but is totally stable. Another thing I have noticed with the 3080 is that if the reverb hand controllers are active the performance is significantly worse.
  5. I also have the msi 3080 ventus 3x OC PLUS. How did you adjust the frequency? Through BIOS? I might have to try that. I wouldn’t say I experience regular crashes but enough to wonder what’s causing it. I’m not sure my amd has ever crashed.
  6. I've now been using the 3080 for a few days and I'm still not 100% decided which I will keep. Both are excellent and can produce great results with the right settings and a bit of tweaking. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I definitely prefer the amd software. It seems the 3080 has a slight edge in vr as I seem to be able to easily use msaa and mv. The 6900XT does not seem to like msaa and it causes very high hit on frame times. However the 6900 seems more stable and I get less unexpected stutters. For some reason every now and again the 3080 just loses it and I have to do a full restart. However when it's all working the 3080 looks better in vr. I feel this is a result of the vram speed as opposed to total ram size. The 3080 is always close to 98-99% but the amd was almost always only using about 11gb of its 16gb. For me msaa is a bit of a must with the g2 so I'm leaning slightly toward the 3080 but it's occasional instability where the vram gets maxed has me still a little unsure.

    New DCS PC

Definitely build yourself. I was in the same situation a while back and bought a prebuilt. Ended up realizing fairly quickly i had over paid for what it was and it didn’t completely suit my needs. I had absolutely zero clue about anything to do with pc, pc hardware or how to build one. Long story short, i did a small bit of research and ordered all the bits, which is not very much, and got exactly what i needed, It was not a difficult job at all. Since then i have built another pc and helped a completely clueless friend now also build one. I would recommend prioritizing the GPU in the budget. Then get the best CPU and MOBO you can with the rest. If you are using it for dcs and even considering vr then you want a 3080 or 6900xt. Assembling everything is a couple hours work. Lots of good YouTube videos.
  8. I just received the 3080 i ordered a year ago. I've been using a 6900xt in the mean time and been very happy with it. I'm gonna test the 3080 over the weekend and will only keep one. I have found it took a while to tune the amd and small changes coildnoften make a big difference. Force dx11 in my case needs to be on. Don't use rage mode, just run the GPU stock. I get smooth experience with steady fps in the 60s and frame times under 15. Settings all high. No msaa but 4 x anstisopotric. There is occasional stutters but I see my GPU is rarely using more than 11gb of its RAM. The only thing I'd like to be able to do is use msaa and get rid of the jagged edges in my g2. As soon as I add msaa the fps falls apart and drops significantly. My g2 and 6900xt don't like motion vector. However steamvr motion smoothing works well.
  9. I just did another quick test on the 6900 xt after downloading the latest driver. An average of 70fps with frame times average around 12-13, in vr in the g2 at native resolution with all in game settings high or max, but no msaa and just 4x antisopotric. Caucuses in harrier with winter, clouds at sunrise, so fairly taxing and it looks very good and smooth. I will be amazed if the 3080 can do better but I’m interested to see. I should add this was mostly flying through the mountains, over trees. Over towns still int he high 50s or 60s. Trying to even get that other “sim” called MSFS to work however is a complete other story! It crashes every single time I switch into vr. All 3rd party stuff removed, settings low but just doesn’t go. To be honest I hate MSFS more and more but just wanted to try. Since the last update I have not managed to get it to work a single time. All just makes me appreciate dcs even more.
  10. Yep it’s basically just for dcs. I went ahead and ordered it anyway and will do a comparison when I get time. The main pain will be having to remove all the drivers and software for the respective gpu while testing the other one but will be interesting to see if there is any significant differences.
  11. Yes I read this with interest too, but it is a Ti, and I wouldn't be getting that.
  12. I am in a bit of a luxury problem! Over a year ago i ordered an RTX 3080 Ventus 3x OC. I got so delayed that i ended up buying an AMD 6900XT in the meantime. I have been using the 6900xt and love it but of course its a gpu, i fly vr, this is dcs so nothing is without its compromises and problems. So now I got a mail saying my 3080 is ready to ship and still at the same price for me that i originally ordered at over a year ago, so well under 50% the retail prices today. My question is really has anyone extensively used both and can directly compare the pros and cos of each? Really the only thing that frustrates me with the 6900xt is the jaggies i get on my reverb G2. I use the fholger reshade and that helps quite a bit, but its still a lot of compromise. With the 6900xt i am able to run at pretty much just under native resolution and keep a good 45fps, even low level, with motion smoothing, 2x MSAA, 4 x Antisopotric filter and most all other settings on high or maxed out in SP. MP is a little worse and i usually need to drop the MSAA if it is busy which makes the visuals significantly more jaggy. In general i am very happy with the performance. I am also wondering how this is all going to play out in the future with future upgrades, especially Vulcan to dcs.
  13. I have also been through this. I ended up jumping from module to module and tried most of them. I started originally on A10c and got very competent on that. It’s just an awesome attack platform. However it’s lack or speed and performance got frustrating after a while for the scenarios and servers I enjoyed. After a few more modules I finally settled on the av8b harrier. I love this module now and have put in a lot of time learning it and honestly don’t get drawn in to the negative comments about bugs. There really aren’t any big show stoppers any more. It’s such a versatile and quirky design. The systems work well and it’s a challenge to learn. I enjoy ground attack more than air to air stuff, so this was ideal. It can carry stacks of weapons, ship borne ops and can defend itself in the air against an opponent if well flown. You can get into some really complex and interesting missions with the av8. As a pure ground attack it’s really hard to beat in dcs.
  14. Interestingly a new test with just mk20 loaded on all pylons, there is no problem. However change the load to gbu38 and mk83 on outer and wheel wont go up.
  15. So i have just been experiencing a completely new issue for me. I have been flying the harrier a lot and never experienced this before. I can repeat exactly the same each time. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or its some kind of bug. It appears the nose wheel is being damaged on take/off. I am loaded up on the deck ouch the Illustrious, dry takeoff, with flaps stop at 50 degrees. Normal run and get airborne then when raising the gear the nose wheel remains down but all others retract. I am wondering if it is a weight issue. I am under the max weight by a fair bit but loaded heavy with 75% fuel, GBU38 and Mk82. I have done literally hundreds of takeoffs with the harrier from ships and never seen this until today. Anyone any ideas or seen similar?
  16. I tried it again yesterday with the spitfire and it was basically unusable as it kept interfering with the stick and sending me into uncontrolled maneuvers. I really want to see this work in dcs. I’m optimistic it can and will be done.
  17. A simple and quick way to turn it on and off would solve a few problems. At least then we could avoid inadvertent switching of switches and interference with controls. Could dcs map this as a UI control? Then we could just switch on the leapmotion control as and when it’s needed and have it hidden when it’s not.
  18. This was exactly what i have been looking for. SO simple, yet took me so long to find it. Thanks very much for this wisky.
  19. I found another workaround that involved after landing, opening the kneeboard target list page, then pressing RSHIFT, RALT, 8 as if to load targets. As long as no f10 targets are prepared this then clears the TOO points as well. No idea why it is like this but its one way as well to quickly delete them all.
  20. Yep exactly. Then bump up the custom multiplier per app setting to squeeze out some more resolution. Using a amd 6900 xt so it copes very well with the higher resolution.
  21. Once I have created a maximum of 10 TOO targets is there anyway to then delete them? I go into the CAS page, recall and they do not even show up, but once on the map and cycling through they are all still present. This basically means that once you have used 10 TOO points you cannot use any more until you change aircraft. Even landing, shutting down and doing a restart does not clear them. This seems very confusing. I am not referring to points created in the f10 map, as they actually do show up in the cas page, but points created in the air by marking with the tpod and TOO.
  22. Just tried this now in av8b over caucuses, sunrise, with clouds and all high settings on dcs. Steam resolution at native for the G2 and per app steam multiplier at 125%. My FPS is pretty similar at 50 to 60 FPS, but a definite improvement on frame times for the gpu which is actually what i am most interested in improving. They are now consistent below 14.
  23. Could be the bios update. It will have reset your overclock and any other settings. Possibly you missed one when you reloaded it? I had to reselect for example the setting for Re-size bar had been disabled when i updated the bios, meaning SAM wasnt activated. There was a few other things as well that nearly caught me out with my overclock. All had to be re-done.
  24. Have you updated your BIOS recently? I checked mine a couple days ago and was a couple of new firmwares since i last did it. A quick download, reboot with the new update via usb and it may help. After i did mine i noticed some slight improvements in the general efficiency of my machine.
  25. Gotta love dcs dropping updates! Its a constant arms race against the machine. Out of interest what is your thinking with undervolting the GPU? I'm experimenting with different settings and currently running a gpu overclock done through adrenaline, as well as slight OC on the cpu in bios. Performance is pretty dsmbed good now. Not sure if I noticed much difference between undervolt and OC but I'll have to look closer.
