  1. Please don't see this as a flame against the game at all, that is definitely not my intention at all. I really do love this game, probably more than I loved LB2 so many years ago. But the size of this game is truly daunting for me at times. I find it so much more difficult than LB2. To fly the KA successsfully, there are just so many buttons to memorise, plus only me in the cockpit (Oh ... isn't Russia so lucky to get me!! :helpsmilie:). Making a successful flight plan is my next goal, hopefully I can do that this weekend. At the moment, I play the game for an hour a day at max, then I need to turn it off just to relax my brain for a while. Any other newbies to this game, have the same or similar thoughts as I do?
  2. Just spent this evening playing around with a wing-man and he (obviously) pretty expert in his weapon skills. After receiving orders, he broke from formation and headed out a bit then commenced his run in. From a shallow dive he let go of 2 500 pound bombs that proceeded downwards to ignite a fuel truck. I must admit it looked pretty watching him do it. I just wish my skills were the same as his ...
  3. Hey M.i.C., very nice pics. The first picture has Evel Knivel driving the BTR doing the jump? Just amazing what a BTR can do with the right driver. And the second pic, what exactly is that? Looks like a moving juggernaut with all those weapons it's carrying .
  4. How many guys did you have on that mission with you Wicked? Before coming to work I tried to set up a mission with my wingmen, but I need to work out the wingman controls as well before I can actually see how it all works. We'd all take off, but they would end up flying AWAY from the target area and wouldn't come back.
  5. Just another tip for those who mightn't be able to fire missiles or rockets after firing their cannon. I had the same problem and couldn't work out what was wrong, until I accidentally touched the 'c' key again and realised the cannon needs to be disengaged for you to use other weapons.
  6. Actually, the only time I've ever seen bombs dropped from a helicopter was in ..."Rambo 2" :megalol:. So I doubt I will even be experimenting with bombs much. Oh ... think I will expirement, set up a mission and give my wingman a load and see how what they do when directed to attack a target with them!!! Good idea??? :pilotfly:
  7. I run mine on Japanese Vista, and I've had no trouble whatsoever, sofar .
  8. I haven't used bombs yet, but are they practical weapons in this game? It seems that if you get up a little too high, you can be easily spotted and attacked. With using bombs you need to get to the minimum altitude and extremely close to the target, which means exposing yourself to attack. Is this a sane thing to do?
  9. Have you tested this against naval units as well? I set up a mission that had a naval unit placed near my base and it started launching missiles at me as soon as I lifted off (not a rolling take-off, straight up from the launch pad). But as I write this, I remember the getting a voice warning saying that I was under attack from "9 o'clock low", which would mean I was getting painted by a laser, no? I thought the US naval SAMs were radar-guided, but am I wrong in that opinion?
  10. Thanks for all the replies everyone, I really do appreciate it. Just so much stuff to remember in this game, it really needs to become a full-time job just to be able to fly it reasonably. But even during these practice runs (while even though just practice) are a whole pile of fun, I'm just imaging how difficult a campaign might be. Get up too high and everyone and anyone can see you and kill you. Can't imagine the skill level required to beat a single mission (let alone a campaign).
  11. Today I worked out how to launch the Vikhr missiles after much expirementation . I set up a mission with unlimited ammo to practice over and over again against stationary targets. But contrary to what I thought would happen, something quite surprising occurred. Even though the missiles were laser guided, they didn't hit their targets every time. I'd guesstimate that only about 75%ish hit (some just plowed into the ground). The launch distance in most cases was about 1km at 100m altitude. I also tried hitting a target from 5km. Is this hit ratio about average for most people? Or is there something basic I might be missing?
  12. Thanks for the information all, it's really interesting. And it will be just as interesting to see what the response will be the tank designers in the future.
  13. Hi everyone, my first post here. I'm back to this genre after a very, very long break (since I finished playing LongBow2 many years ago). So many things have changed and I have so many questions to ask. Anyway, my first question is about anti-tank guided missiles versus the armour of modern tanks. I've read about tanks having chobham armour and its effectiveness. How do modern atgms overcome this armour, is it just a case of a bigger warhead or is there something I'm missing? I've looked at the internet in a few places, but can't find anything that satisfies my curiousity. Thanks in advance for any answers :helpsmilie: Edit: Just realised I put this in the wrong part of the forums ... sorry all
