How to remove track IR center zone in DCS BS?
Speed_2 replied to Speed_2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yea, I just realized it was a track IR setting, and fixed it. I had been thinking incorrectly that it was something that was in like a lua file in BS. Thanks though! -
Hey guys, I was curious if anyone knew how to remove the center zone in Black Shark for the track IR? If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, its the zone around the center position of the track IR where your POV in DCS BS "snaps" to center. It's incredibly annoying to me, especially when I'm trying to use the helmet mounted sight.

Duh. The only thing that's "silly" is that you think I'm talking about an A-10 or Black Shark engaging and killing a fighter. Don't you understand the importance of a realistically modelled radar in allowing an A-10 and ESPECIALLY a Black Shark to hide from enemy radar using terrain masking and ground clutter? If we don't have this realistically modelled, and the radar is too much of a gods-eye in the sky, then us Black Shark pilots are in trouble trying to hide.
-
While it will be fun to have a more fully modelled battlefield simulated with multiple platforms being player-controllable, if there's ever a DCS add-on that gives us a realistically modelled aircraft with ATA capability, it might be a little unfair to pit those pilots directly against lock-on pilots with simplified aircraft. Also, if the radar and missiles are not accurately modelled in Lock On, it will only give the Lock On fighter jocks an easier time killing a Hog or Black Shark. I guess that would be a bridge easily crossed by mission design or user preference, and the severity of the miss-match is not something I can directly speak on, never having flown any version of Lock On myself. To those of you who have, are these fears unfounded or not? I suppose that future Lock On patches could include any upgrades to the realism of missiles and radar, if needed, where the difference would count the most. Definately great news for the Lock On folks, no matter what!

Utilizing Bombs on Black Shark-Tracks?
Speed_2 replied to enigma6584's topic in User Created Missions General
Well, you could always approach at like 4000 meters or higher to avoid most of the SAMs and AAA. I just tried out your method with the gunsight, I found it was highly inaccurate. From 4000m AGL, the bombs were consistently hitting like 100 meters in front of where the shkval was looking, even when I had the selector switch on 8. Down at 400m, the accuracy was alot better, but harder to find targets. -
Functional in Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?
Speed_2 replied to mdubeux's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It works in 64 bits just fine, take it from me, but it just doesn't fully utilize 64 bit processors. -
Understood. I've no problem with that, but it just seems odd to ME that we cannot discuss this in the DCS forums. That's all.

Well, how many posts are there already on this subject? Looks like I'm not the only one who never checks this part of the forum. Perhaps you could realize that this is big news for those anticipating DCS A-10, and in that respect, very much deserves at least a mention in the DCS forums. At the very least, being mentioned would stop additional posts from being added. I'm betting, but can't confirm really, that the controllers forum was probably created mainly due to people needing help with specific sticks, sharing profiles, etc, I respect the decision to create a separate forum for game controllers. However, considering the facts, no other forum I've ever participated in would have moved a topic like this, and heck, I don't remember participating in a flight sim forum that had a separate controllers section even. Considering that this stick is mainly only going to be useful for DCS A-10, that it couldn't possibly have user issues that need resolution because it's not even out yet, and that the relavent topic of discussion about it would be "hey look at how fun this stick that is going to make DCS A-10! I wonder how much it will cost?" I find it odd that its a shunned topic on the DCS forum. And in conclusion, you're a jerk.

process for engaging hind/apache with cannon?
Speed_2 replied to dooom's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I second that. If you read the manual, you'll notice that is says that GMT mode makes the gun LEAD targets. It doesn't matter if that target is on the ground or in the air. I've tested this many, many times, and it works quite nicely. -
Wow, this sim continues to amaze me. Great tips!
-
They keep moving these threads to the controllers section so those of us who never care to look there have no idea there is already a post on this. :(

Well, if your problem is seeing all the gauges easily, I'd suggest a track IR. You can quickly look down at the gauges then look back up. Also program your stick to have a zoom in and zoom out function.
-
Never had that work. I can only get a new chopper if I am damaged.

Saw this over on the fighter ops forums: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6773 From what I've read, this is not a consumer release, but the word is that there will be one! Lemme guess- roughly coinciding with DCS A-10C release? We can hope! And yes, I still drop by the fighter ops forums from time to time. Maybe one day... in the next century.....

Ultimate challenge: Defeating the mighty Carl Vinson
Speed_2 replied to Waldo_II's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Well, you can always put the ammo on infinite and see just how many missiles it really does take. -
Not true anymore. Uncooled microbolometers are now very small, easily small enough to put on a headset. We're talking fairly sensitive IR cameras that measure a couple inches by a couple inches, and that's CURRENT technology. Mid-wave IR and long-wave IR NVGs are definately doable now, donno if anyone is making them though.
-
It won't be a BIG effect, most NVGs are in visible and near IR, not longer wavelengths of IR that more noticably penetrate small-particle aerosols.
-
Oh, I think I found it, Bazar->World->SkyObjects Looks to be stars and stuff.
-
What would be fun for me would be to improve the sky to include more stars and the milky way. Is there any way to mod that in? Also, I do find the clouds through the NVGs to be way too bright. We spend alot of time flying over uninhabitted areas where the clouds would DARKER than the background sky, yet the brightness of clouds at night and especially through the NVGs is more akin to what you'd see over a large city or under a full moon, especially compared to the dark terrain. Since adjusting the brightness of clouds to depend on how close they are to a city or town would probably be too difficult, I was wondering if it were possible to turn the cloud brightness down to some intermediate, compromise level between dark and bright skies?

Even the pros put their blades together

Oh no doubt, I've been guilty of this. But in THIS particular case- I'd trust an actual engineer over someone who's not in the matter of what is technically possible or not. For example, all the objections raised are easily solved. Rotor pressure wave- use a high-pass (or maybe a band-pass) filter. We're talking about ULTRASOUND here. All those other effects are low frequency. The talk of "You can't measure because there's so much noise around!" is ridicuously technically naive. Filters and signal processing correlation routines easily can pick out signals out of VERY noisy environments- just look at your radio. With antenna and filter design, you pick ONE specific frequency out of a myriad of frequencies all simultaneously transmitting. GGTharos argues that because he has never used a system that would measure at close enough distances or fast enough, then such a system can't exist. That's like me saying because I never used a telescope that could see galaxies 9 billion light years away, the Hubble Space Telescope doesn't exist. The fact is, you can use faster electronics and shorter pulse times, and if you STILL have a minimum distance problem, you can simply move your sensors further away. Upward facing lidar systems on the stub-wings/pylons, anyone? So, to top it all off, he insults me by saying that I am "making things up". Please.... -

I'm talking about fatigue, not flexing. Fatigue would cause flexing to slowly increase over time, which would be very bad. -
Problem is, you get in big trouble when you play multiplayer
-
You wouldn't necessarily have to though. Another way to get Eagle Dynamics to make you DCS F-16 would be to simply guarentee them a certain profit- for example you pay them $25 million ONLY IF they make DCS F-16 and it sells zero copies. If it has $15 million worth of sales, you only pay them $10 million. If it has $30 million worth of sales, YOU get the extra profit. That would be how I would do it if I was a gozillionaire.

Thanks GGTharos for informing me that all the classes I have taken, papers I have read, conferences I have attended, and hardware I have tested is make believe. I had no idea! It all seemed so real at the time. Really, truely, you have no right to speak on things you haven't the slightest clue about. But, since you already know it all, I'm not going to waste any more time with this.
