  1. Cool writeup. Can't wait for mine when oculus sees fit to remove their head from their rear end and actually ship it to me later this month...

I've been playing in 3D surround for years and have a Gear VR so I may not be as blown away as you but still looking forward to it. I'll have to dig up my HDMI to DVI adapter for my single monitor that I plan on using for the rift.

  2. Some things I noticed regarding flight dynamics:

there is no blowback, pitch/power effect at all

    • if you enter ETL, every chopper is supposed to pitch up with increasing airspeed which needs to be compensated with fwd cyclic to achieve level flight. The gazelle does not, and even if you keep the pitch, you will nose-dive into the ground. Actually the rotor generates more lift with increased airspeed, which should prevent this from happening.
    • In level forward flight at no certain airspeed, if you drop collective the nose attitude does not change at all, the helicopter would only start to sink without nosing down (no pitch/power effect present in the gazelle)

I do not know if this behaviour is specific to the gazelle, but it is certainly very different to every helicopter I've flown in decent sims (UH-1 and X-plane: AS350, B407, R22, B206, BK117) and got to try at least IRL (Bo105, R66). Based on this experience I'm having a hard time trying to believe that this is realistic behaviour.

still, I think the Gazelle is going to be one of the most amazing aircraft in DCS. You guys did a fantastic job modelling it! I have no reason to doubt you will end up with a fantastic AFM for the Gazelle and I'm really looking forward to it!

My thoughts exactly on both counts. I have crashed 2 or 3 times now because when entering ETL the Gazelle likes to take a noser into the ground unless you are pulling more back pressure on the cyclic as it hits transition. This is the opposite of what I would expect based on years of helo simming and some ground school training I've had (even though I've never taken actual lessons).

I also see tendency for the gazelle to drop like a stone, albeit a forward moving stone, when you drop the collective. I would imagine that a real helicopter continues to maintain forward flight at same altitude until airspeed bleeds off and you start to lose altitude - like the Huey does in DCS. I can drop the collective in the Huey at 100 knots and pull back on the cyclic to bleed speed and gain or maintain altitude and then pull the collective as needed when slow enough near the ground. When I drop the collective in the Gazelle at 100 knots and pull back on the cyclic the ship still drops to the ground like a rock! Once again not having flown it this is not what I would expect and certainly not what other helos in sims do that I fly. (dodo, mi-8, Huey, Blackshark, etc)

  3. I see ZERO difference from my 2600K my 4790K or my 6700K systems all at 4.6GHz running DCS as long as same video card is used. FSX is the only thing that sees any difference between these 3 systems. Intel, like Apple has made little to no innovation or advancement in the past 7 years beyond smaller, cooler, more efficient.

  4. Mine is a Kickstarter backer order. I am suspecting that they are in a separate queue since the order numbers are in a whole different range.

Well you could have mentioned that first before you spun everyone up thinking why someone with an order number so far higher than theirs was shipped first :music_whistling:

  5. It is still manageable for sure but yes very light touch. Only time it got away from me was the initial launch when my collective axis was reversed. Only been in it for about 15 minutes but had no issues landing it or controlling it overall but it's going to take some serious practice to get the feel for.

  6. Yeah agreed. Homey don't modify curves. The other choppers will be a breeze to fly after getting used to this one with this level of sensitivity. I always heard the Robinson R22 was like this and now I think I understand!

  7. Just got her installed and she's beautiful but man is she a handful. The controls are so sensitive and twitchy that it's by far the most difficult helo module to control. Better have a soft hand is all I have to say because cyclic and rudder input movements that would have you flying perfectly stable in the Huey or mi8 will have you upside down in the Gazelle. Anyone else noticing this?

  8. Make sure to bring up the unit list since there is an AI helo at Mccarran that will not show up when the map is centered on Nellis. Delete ALL AI and static helos in this mission or it will crash after a few minutes. You will still get random 2-3 second pauses though. This is a big bug that needs fixing.

  9. I noticed yesterday that my GPU on DCS with surround was only at about 60% utilized on mostly high settings. I'm positive in regular surround that it was pegged at 99% before these last updates. I'll have to try 3D surround which I know should be pegged at 99%. My fps has dropped a lot with these latest updates too but there are a lot of new features now that didn't exist then so... My old 2600k has been offline for a few months and hasn't gotten any of these updates. I am going to fire it up this week, copy over the old 1.5 and 2.0 directories to my new box and check gpu utilization. I'm starting to think that maybe these latest patches have decreased cpu and gpu utilization causing performance issues for people with higher end setups. Anyone else seeing this?

  10. Cowboy only thing that fixed it for me was editing the instant mission miz and removing all references to AI/static helos by using the unit list that Kuabi recommended. It does not crash now for me but there are random 3 second pauses every few minutes that were like the ones that occurred right before the game crashed before. It doesn't crash though now when it pauses. This latest patch has some 'issues' in it that need to be resolved with performance and things like this.

  12. I got it I think. Thanks for the tip Kuabi on using the unit list. Found a rogue mi8 hanging out at mccarran that was part of the mission and wasn't visible at nellis. Deleted it and now it's not crashing. I am getting 3-5 second pauses periodically like everyone else that did this too but at least it isn't crashing.

  13. Nope didn't work. Just to be clear I am editing the DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Mods\aircraft\Uh-1H\Missions\QuickStart\UH-1H_Nevada_Take-Off_from_Nellis.miz file and removing all helicopter markers except for the player? I did that and it still crashes about 5 minutes in every time...
