Strangely, I’ve had a performance boost. Previously my GPU would overload immediately I loaded the Persian Gulf module (fps would drop to 13 and gpu stream in fpsVR solid red), where as now I’m able to fly the F15/16/18 unencumbered. It’s all free flight single player as I’m a noob, but it has improved it for me. Here are my settings if it helps...

Yep... I had to switch off the virus protection, perform a repair and then launch.... I just had to remember to switch on the virus protection when I finished. I couldn't whitelist the file...

I had to switch off my virus protection... Then go to the Eagle Dynamics Folder and Repair... Then run it after the repair and it worked. I just had to remember to switch the Virus Protection back on after i finished playing.

PD i have set at 1.0 I think the flyVR panel says 100% SS. Annoyingly, the overlay on the computer screen has now disappeared and i cant get it back

Sorry for the crap quality. I have prescription lenses in place but hopefully you can see the state of the feedback from fpsVR

Hi Draconus, thanks for the link. All that did was switch off the HMD so I’ve had to re-enable it. I do have DCS selected in the NVidia control panel, as per the second video. I’ll see if I can figure out how to add screenshots and I’ll send a pic taken through the lens of the HMD.

Ok... Let me do that. Thanks.

No, i start PG in free flight in the F-16 and i get a massive GPU overload as soon as i select cockpit view... Its not 100% but its at least 80% of the time i would say...

hI ROBGRAHAM... Im new to Windows.. so have no idea what that means sadly. I have noticed that the problem is in VR and not 2D...

Hi Draconus MSAA and SSAA are off. The problem doesn’t raise its head in Caucus. To really push it, I fly ultra low and fast over the forest areas in caucus and occasionally the FOS drops to around and the frame time raises to mid 20’s with red spikes being seen in the progress bar. But in the PG the frame time goes above 200.

Hi, I suspect this is a complete noobs question, but in the Persian Gulf and Nevada, whenever I hit fly and press F2 to move to the cockpit, the CPU and GPU frametimes jump to more than 100 and then the GPU stays constantly in the red whilst the frame rates drop to 12-13 and the whole experience becomes quite awful. I've got a pretty well spec'd machine and the temps of the CPU and GPU temps rarely, if ever, go above 80 degrees. I don't know how to take in cockpit video so I can't really share what I'm seeing here. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. FB

Hi, Is this happening to anyone else? OIn every occasion now, if I load the Persian Gulf scenery, within 10-20 seconds on fpsvr, the GPU goes solid red and I only get 11 FPS, with unmanageable flickering... and so I have to shut it down. I've even reinstalled the PG module but no changes. Anyone else had the same thing?

Thanks... annoyingly some of the UI has changed but I think I managed to get it sorted. I’ve gotten the FPS reasonably steady at 45. But I have nothing to compare the “quality” of the picture I’m looking at with as I’m new to VR.

Hi Varis My plan is to learn as much about the aircraft and the simulator as possible. I plan to make it as immersive as possible. I’m going to look at combining a jet seat with a butt kicker as well. I like the Hornet and the F-16 and so far I have mainly fiddling with the settings to add realism into the control response. I’ve found in the F-16, that a good way to Leann that is to start with free flight in the Persian Gulf and start a max speed low level run beginning at the Mosque just off the end of Al Bateen Airport and following the Sheikh Zayeed Road all the way to the Creek in Dubai. Well it’s damn good fun anyway.

Hi Draconus, thanks for the above. I couldn’t get the VR to work in DCS without the steam VR. I’ve got it working now but as I’m new to VR, I have nothing to compare what I’m looking at... It ain’t 4K for sure but the 3D effect is very impressive.

Hi All I'm currently viewing a setting in steam VR that allows me to display a performance graph. Whilst in-game, the graph is showing between 14-16 of 11.1 ms (90 Hz) The frame rates i'm getting are reasonably steady at 45 fps doing carrier landings and flying the P51 aroun...d and drop to around 38-40 when doing 500 mph along the Sheikh Zayed road in Dubai. System specs are below in the Sig. Do these numbers sound about right? I’ve followed some advice with regards to tweaking numbers from a couple of YouTube guys, (Spud) mainly. Thanks again for the help.

Hi All, Time for an update... The 1st Area 51 went AWOL in transit and Dell ordered me another one and it was delivered on 4th February. Little old me was very happy as I was departing the UK on 5th and thought id be a smart arse and claim back the VAT as I'm non-dom in the UK. But you need to buy from a retailer that can issue correct paperwork... and ordering from an online entity won't cut it with HMRC... so that kick in the Gonads wiped the smile from my dial. During ED's Christmas sale, I purchased a few aircraft so I downloaded them all on day one. My plan is to be as portable as possible as i basically live in hotels. I have bought the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS. Well those things weigh more than a Cathedral and i don't have the ability to carry an old leather trunk, so i carry the Area 51 and the Reverb in a wheelie bag with foam protection... When i figure out how to store it with a URL, ill send a photo... Anyway, thanks to other members who have posted here, i knew that i had to download, DCS / Windows Mixed Reality Portal / Steam VR in order to get this working. I also downloaded NVidia's GeForce Experience. Then i put the HMD on my head... and nothing!!! Its been frustrating but i have battled through and got it all working... kind of... The one thing i have learned is that you need to start up the HMD in VR so the mouse pointer works... So again, thanks to this forum for the answers to that. Its been frustrating, but we're getting there as they say. One thing im really glad i did... I wear glasses usually, but i VROptician dot com and got myself prescription inserts. They work great and dont steam up as much as my glasses do when i dont have them installed. More to come later.. but now... i gotta fly... not type...

Welcome to the Forum... The people here are really very helpful. As a noob myself, I've spent a lot of time reading various threads as well. Good luck

I have a question for the good people of this forum regarding windows... the operating system, not the thing that separates you and the howling wind and rain! When my Area 51 eventually arrives, I plan, in the first instance, to install any windows updates that are due. Based on the equipment list below that I have, what additional software in what order, should I load? I’m planning on using mainly DCS as the sim os, but do I need additional software for VR? Do I need steam? I plan to use DCS directly rather than via steam. Should I put DCS on the same drive as the OS? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Kind of screwed at the moment as the Area 51 I ordered, has done an Area 51, gone into stealth mode and has disappeared. So I’m currently the proud owner of a load of peripherals I can’t do anything with... pending Dell’s investigation into the skunkworks like metamorphosis of my “desktop replacement” Even the dog has figured out that sitting at a table with a Warthog HOTAS shooting down pretend enemies is boring AF and has gone back to licking his balls!!!
