ATFLIR when flying Navy or Marines off a carrier and LITENING when flying Marines off a land base, because LITENING is not carrier approved

I know, I've been trying to do that, but I admit I've cheated a few times because I like the Litening a little better 🙂

Just a blank waypoint almost at the end of the list.  Nothing special about it.  They are skipping over WP 59 since it defaults to the Bullseye set in mission editor, so if you go backwards, once you get through the markpoints, it's the first one you come to.  It's also not likely to get used since it's so far up so an out of the way waypoint basically.

Aaaah, ok, that's a neat trick, thanks 🙂

    Bank Angle:

The simple answer is to just match the wing bank of the tanker.  The biggest issue is that the tanker never informs the pilot that they are getting ready to enter the turn (which happens IRL) and this causes a YOLO event.  Because the tanker is functioning in 0's & 1's, any bank movement should be considered as an intent to turn.  They will go to approximately 27 degrees of bank (probably 'autopilot' software rules).  This means that once you start seeing the turn happen, start your effort to match them and know they will stop around 30 degrees of bank.  Because of reaction time, you will probably need to initially not match their wings, but go slightly beyond it until the LOS of the tanker in your canopy stops.  If you are in position and the LOS of the tanker has stopped where you want it, then match their wings.

The only thing I'd add is that because you're slightly below (and therefore outside) the turn of the tanker, your bank angle will be a tiny bit less than the tanker's.  Definitely less of an issue than with boom tanking, where you're significantly below the tanker

Still happens to me all these years later. I've just been ignoring it for the last 2 years I've been playing but I'm at the point now I play a lot more F/A-18 and it's getting obnoxious. Happens no matter what whenever I advance the throttles past halfway, unless the MC is already lit from a previous throttle advance. Happens from cold start, hot start on the cat/runway, or already in the air. Tried the usual Google search but it looks like no one has an answer and all the threads on DCS/Reddit are old and dead.

IIRC if the plane thinks you won't make it to the HOME waypoint on the FPAS page, it'll also set off a caution when you advance the throttle

Yes, that's how I thought about it too. 4.7 alpha is close to the best L/D ratio. It is possible that drag and lift difference becomes large enough above that to outweigh the lifting effect of the canted stab. Pure speculation though... But it might also explain why the roll rate increases with higher AOA.

I can't say this behavior accurate, but it's interesting that the NATOPS suggests below 5deg AOA and above Mach 0.6 is an area where the Hornet is more vulnerable to out-of-control flight.  I read that as excessive stick at low AOA could result in significant adverse (opposite) yaw, but I don't know if adverse roll with excessive rudder would follow 🤷‍♂️  Or it could just be a coincidence

Is there any way to tilt the pilot's view to enable sight of the radio frequency knob and also the buttons in front of the stick? I've tried all of the number pad controls and the top hat I'm using to move the view around the cockpit.

IIRC, the bindings are in Settings->Adjust Controls->A-10CII->Cockpit Views and are something like "Move Camera Foreword/Left/Right/Aft/Up/Down".  I believe the default key commands are RCtrl-RShift+Numpad (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

hahaha, boys, tnx you alot, i did it!! ))) i mean i didn't refuel the whole thing but, big but, i did manage to connect in very short time and in controlled manner, and refueled for my record 30+ seconds, still overwhelming experience being THAT close to the tanker so i had some issues but over all amazing feeling, i am beggining to see benefits of being able to fly formation, refuel in actually moving the plane through waypoints and approaching airfields, CV during landing, its all much more smoother and more logical, its a beautiful experience wow.

You guys deserve a shout out for real, you really did make an impact, my crappy X56 isn't actually responsible for my previous blunders (though still crappy and will be buying VKB whole set -including pedals as im also fan of the shark and hind, down the line Apache as well).

Its funny, how DCS can be fun for all the different reasons to many ppl, some enjoy blowing stuff on the ground, others raking air kills in MP, to me doing the "basics" the right way and since i'm not a pilot its a full commitment and hard thing to get right on the get go.

Now i can do the rest of it, navigation, frequencies, using TACAN, my god such a noob i know, and only then tactics, air to air, air to ground, and during all this not to forget to do 5 refueling missions per week for 10 min max to refresh and imprint as much of the movement into my muscle memory when its still "fresh".

Not only is that a great step, but that's a great attitude you have, and it inspired me to put some effort into trying to learn something new today.  Congrats!

  8. Also, a quick sanity check, I think I've noticed that there's a bit of a delay getting the goggles on/off (maybe due to the animations).  If you press the goggle button again before it turns on, it'll turn right back off, so spamming the goggle button will actually keep it from turning on.

  9. To add more fuel to the fire, there have been aircraft the have pitch control for the prop, rather than a propeller governor controller, so it's not for someone to conflate pitch control with prop control.  Come to think of it, the Me-109 was one of them, IIRC.

My AAR awakening came one day after the usual frustration, driving to work. And realizing I was able to keep “formation” in traffic. I thought; how am I able to do this but not in the game? Well… look at the small subconscious motions you make on the wheel and gas pedal without even realizing it. I’m not mashing down the gas and wildly cranking the wheel. Just driving. Same with riding a bicycle. You don’t even think about it. Ok so do the same in the game, it just takes some time to get your reflexes tuned. And it’s odd because the only feedback you get is your vision. But eventually it clicks and an amazing thing.

It's also a good analogy for your hardware not being the culprit.  After all, people are able to drive in traffic in junkers with no power and limp-wristed steering wheels that have a mile of play.  But it would certainly be more enjoyable in a nicer car 🙂

i'm busting my brains trying to AAR for first time ever.. i fly the F14B and dear god i am starting to doubt its possible.

So FIRST and FOREMOST ISSUE IS  ---- TRIMMING-- how do you guys trim, that is mostly the pitch trim, what i mean is can you get positive zero with trim, that is, you let go of the stick and the freaking plane stays LEVEL, i am saying LEVEL, not 1 single feet per second climb, not even 1 foot per hour climb or descent.. i am saying level, or is it impossible thus you have to INPUT your movement from joystick therefore must have CONSTANT TENSION in the stick-which i think its BS as that reduces movement of the stick in that direction you are pulling so your precision will drop..not to mention how crazy it is to keep trimming in such a position.

Stop futzing around with the trim.  Hornet auto-trims to 1G.  At least until you mess with it.  Now you have a plane that trims to 1.05G, which is not helpful for really anything.

You don't maintain altitude by getting the trim dialed in.  You maintain altitude by constantly bumping the nose up and down with the stick.  It's like balancing a baseball bat on your hand--if you try to do it by getting the bat perfectly vertical so you don't have to move your hand, you will fail.  You do it by constantly moving your hand around under the bat, and as you get better, those motions get smaller (but never to zero).

    Hello aviators,

i just got the F-15E the other day and have been reading up the manual and doing the training missions available to get practical applications of the concepts in the manuals.

Something I noticed today doing the A/A mission is that the radar is not sweeping. What I mean is that when I watch videos, the carets on the left and bottom of the display are sweeping up/down, and right/left however mine are not. I assume that the training mission would have everything set up correctly so that it should work, and from what I can tell the radar is on and in the correct mode, A/A master mode is selected, and I am able to move the target selector (for lack of a better term as I can't remember it right now) on the MFD. I do not see the radar returns on the screen because the carets are centered on the axis and not moving.

Is this a known issue, and has anybody had this issue before and know a way to solve it? Thanks for any help provided!

Open beta?  'Stable' version had a non-working radar

Video or files, threads, explain how to use F-15E TGP pod in A-G, with/without the IR/night pod ? I am trying to use the TGP with the video as I fly and  ID and lock targets for weapons, but no matter how hard I work on trying to ID what I am looking at it is very hard to ID and get a clear look at targets, regardless if I zoom in for a closer look. The video quality looks terrible. Yes, it is in Beta. Of course I am proabably not doing something right, always more settings to use. Thanx

I assume by IR/night pod, you mean the navigation pod? The one that projects the FLIR image on the HUD and I think also houses the TF radar?  I'm a little confused as why that would have anything to do with the targeting pod

@razo+r I do not remember. Perhaps there is 9 - 10 knots north wind. I have noticed that the bar in order to pickle comes down very slowly, and meets the FPM when I am exactly above the target if that make any sense.

The late release is simply due to the bomb unit's relatively high drag.  The CBU-97 submunitions are very affected by wind

thanks for the info, Ramsay. Usual momentary toggles will spring from one end to the center. This is the opposite where it springs away from the center. Since there won't be such physical toggles switches easily found in the market, I suppose to mimic this in a physical cockpit I'd have to use a 2 way ON-ON toggle as ON-OFF and just forget about the center RESET. To use the RESET it looks like it has to be done with the mouse, not a physical toggle.

If you're okay with compromises, why not just an A-B-(C) switch, where C is momentary, and just use the B as ON and C as RESET?
