A very pleasant newsletter. Thank you ED for your hard work on so many projects, modules, and terrains. Reading about the PTO Assets Pack really got me excited, as did the new modules in our Free Trial Program. I've done a few parachute jumps from the CH-47C, so it will be interesting to fly F version of this helicopter in Free Trial. (It's a shame, though, because I was expecting the OH-58D to be included in the Free Trial list. Perhaps in the future)

Yeah Kiowa at $70 dollars with neither a trial nor discount is why I haven't got it. If I tried it and liked it I may spend that, or if there is a window to get it cheap I may buy it "blind". I'm sure the point of sales a discount pre orders is to create a sense of missing out so you kinda feel compelled to buy. Not so with the Kiowa. As a someone who doesn't like the gazelle (no judgements) Kiowa is too much at the moment.

    DCS 3.0 = Vulkan

If ED would allow me to remove the M2000C and AV-8 from my account in exchange for modules on the website, I would accept! Even though I have practically all the DCS modules. You could give this idea to ED @BIGNEWY, or something like that.

Yeah 3.0 may come with vulkan. No telling it will follow 2.9 though...

Personally I hope that others pick up the razbam modules. Probably complete new creations which may be difficult to do considering they may not be able to be sold for full price.

Hello Hoirtel what s your favorite aircraft ?

Hi @SK2_Blackjack difficult question! So many good options 😁 I have been in DCS for a while and have time on a few airframes. Most recently I have been flying the f4, but I also fly the 16 and the harrier. I have the 15E but not flown that in a while. Also like a few of the helis Apache/hind/chinook. I used to fly the 18 a lot but left that a couple of years ago. I would be keen to concentrate on something that works in a pair/group. What are you flying?

  4. Looking for small group or like minded dcs pilots for co-op missions/casual training sessions on weekend afternoons (UK time). I'm not on DCS in the evenings/weekdays.

My preference is for semi-realistic missions, transit, AAR + task. Mostly just want to learn to operate in a pair/group, have fun and land at the end!

I use VR and my comm preference is voicechat which seems pretty good for pairs/small groups, but I can also use SRS. I have discord but don't use it while flying.

  5. Changes like this to the knee board have been needed for years. To me it's been one of the biggest holes in DCS as we also can't even add information to it in the Mission Editor. I've no idea why ED feel this is low priority as I think it would add much needed usability into the game especially for VR players. Over the same years things have changed, we can now get co-ordinates from the F10 in the game and even the case 3 info for the F18 gets reproduced on it, but for whatever reason they have never taken the kneeboard further than where it is. Considering it is an essential bit of real military aviation is crazy to me. Good luck with this request!

I updated my hardware with amazing results.

    Hardware installation
I kept my PSU, PC Case (Thermaltake Core P3 Open Case without any Fans), SSD's with W10 and DCS and just put them back in. I did not want to reinstall Windows and redo all my applications and settings, which would cost me a couple of weeks. First I made backups of my data and made some screenshot of settings and looked into activating W10, in case this was needed.

    • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
    • CPU cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420
    • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI
    • Memory: G.Skill 64GB DDR5-6000

    New results

A-10 Quick Mission Normandy 'Weapons Practice':

    • 90FPS flat. I just see 3 flat lines in the DCS performance overlay.
    • app CPU 1.7 ms
    • rdr CPU 5 ms
    • app GPU 10.5ms

    Steps taken

    1. Updated BIOS, cleared the CMOS
    2. Updated Chipset drivers
    3. Updated GPU drivers
    4. Ran Driver Booster to replace some of the drivers.
    5. Cleaned up some of the software, removed stuff I did not need anymore.
    6. BIOS
      1. Enabled X3D Turbo Mode (disabled SMT)
      2. Enabled ReSize BAR
      3. Overclocking: Enabled PBO
        1. Positive +200
        2. Curve optimizer -20

    Still to do

    1. Enable EXPO
    2. Increase DCS Visual settings, soo much headroom now.
    3. Increase Quad View Foveated Rendering settings to get closer to the native resolution of the Varjo Aero, which is on 39 PPD.
      1. Current parameters
        1. turbo_mode=0
        2. peripheral_multiplier=0.45
        3. focus_multiplier=1.2
        4. horizontal_focus_section=0.29
        5. vertical_focus_section=0.33
        6. smoothen_focus_view_edges=0.2
        7. sharpen_focus_view=0.6
    4. Play with increasing RAM speed, it is back on automatic. Tried some settings, but Windows became unstable and I had to reboot the nasty way. I lost my VoiceAttack user file in the process. So I have to reinstall some shortcuts for my radio controls, scratchpad, video shortcuts, Openkneeboard etc. No biggie, it will cost me a couple of hours to figure it out again. Will add my \AppData\Local folder to my backup regime.
    5. Run benchmarking

    What did you upgrade from?

  7. I understand people's issues with the teleporting, it may be jarring but I am not sure there are other options. Tractor tows and manual push backs would be a huge amount of work for what is at best a tiny part of the game. Where does it stop? Should weapons be loaded by ordinance guys? Should the purple guys come and do refuel?

I think it may be one of those things that we get used to like the instantly appearing weapons and fuel. Just accept that this is what it is.

I am sure that once it's out in the wild there will be refinements based on feedback.

  8. The 9800X3D does look very good. As a current 7800X3D pushing high Res in VR I guess upgrade isn't going to make much difference, however I can't help but wonder...

The thing that really makes me think is that this chip had much improved 1% lows. That could make a difference.

The big thing about overclocking... Well my 7800X3D is currently running at 5.2 as I have been tinkering with bclk clock as covered widely on YT. With a 360 rad and push pull fans the temps are great.

Drop in upgrade is always temping though...

Of course the ramp gunner could move out of the way but the gun itself is fixed in position, it can't be easily moved and it needs some work to remove.
We may some day refine these logics, not sure towards what you suggest but, for now, you can include these suggestions on the wish list section.

    https://forum.dcs.world/forum/1123-wish-list/

I didn't actually think about the gun itself! Fair point. I am really not sure what is irl either and it's no issue really to just avoid it when doing cargo ops.

Thanks for the responses and I may add it to the wish list.

    Hi @Hoirtel

The inability to load cargo with the gunner in position is intended. The rear gun is installed in such a way that doesn't allow the loading or unloading of crates. Not only it removes of the ramp platforms, the gun itself is fixed and blocks the entrance.

As mentioned, the inoperable trim is a known issue and it's being worked on.

Thanks for the response. I thought it might be intended as I get they are in the way. However unlike in reality they cannot move out of the way so it means that internal cargo ops aren't possible with the rear gunner?  I don't think it needs any special animations or but perhaps there would be a way to temporarily remove them when on the ground so that the ramp and cargo can be used.

In a similar note I also see that cargo cannot be loaded or unloaded if the ramp isn't in the correct position. This also makes sense but considering the ramp control isn't done by the pilots, perhaps this could be automated with cargo options? This could include a auto remove/replace of the gunner if required. Special option maybe?

I guess it might be that cargo is never transported with a rear gunner. I wouldn't know.

Overall a great module, the above is just a suggestion. Thanks 👍

  11. I have been trying SMT on and off today with my 7800X3D. No major changes in performance but the terrain stutter at low level is definitely worse with it off. I was a bit surprised but it was very repeatable using the same track file.

Also even stranger was that with SMT off I could see a tiny bump every second on the frame counter green line (simulation). This wasn't really noticeable in game, but was very clear to see in the main menu. SMT back on and it was gone. It may have been there in the game but the line was rougher generally as the terrain stuttered more.
