  1. Anti-aliasing Actually, your screen shot looks very nice to me and I'd be happy with that appearance. Aliasing is a function of the digital world we live in. It can never be totally eliminated and, as others have advised, solutions to reduce it will always hit your frame rate. Your PC looks capable but you can always spend more money on upgrades. I'd say that with the processor and GPU you are using you are getting into the area of diminishing returns. You might be able to spend your way to something approaching a 15% improvement in fps while reducing aliasing but, honestly, would you see the difference? I'd bet not. Notice I have an older CPU OC'd to 4.4 GHz, a GPU similar to yours and have absolutely no frame rate problems. Aliasing is not visible when actually flying but you will always see a bit with a static screen shot. So, my solution is: 1 - Try some of the things other posters have suggested. The Youtube video is very good. 2 - Once you have found the best compromise between fps and appearance (it will always be a compromise), adjust your expectations. Best wishes, JH.
  2. Much thanks. Looks like best to wait awhile in my case.
  3. Hate to ask a question like this but could not find answer with search. I am on DCS 2.5.0 but understand 2.5.2 is available as of a couple of dats ago. I thought my 2.5 would upgrade automatically, as usual, but it does not. If I run the updater stand-alone it says my DCS World us up to date. Have I misunderstood the release date or is a manual upgrade now required? Best wishes - JH
  4. For me it is the Ka50. It took a long time to master this unit but, having done so, it became an obsession I can't get enough of. A fixed wing just seems very boring by comparison.
  5. A few weeks ago I reported that infantry in DCS 1.5 persistently survived my Ka-50 rocket attacks for up to 2 minutes after the attack, making it almost impossible to play some of my custom missions. With the latest update to 1.5 this has been fixed. Much thanks to the team for attending to this so promptly.
  6. Esteemed Colleagues, With the latest updates (my "World" and "Blackshark" are up to date) I notice a couple of strange things happening in my custom missions for "Black Shark": 1 - I can fire rockets on enemy infantry at point-blank range but they are not instantly killed which tempts me to attack again but they still are not killed. If I think I hit them either the first or second time and wait about 10 seconds, the troops finally bite the dust. This is unrealistic behavior and causes me to waste a lot of ammo in desperation to kill infantry on the first pass. I have observed this behavior in all my missions. 2 - Off-road enemy vehicles are now more likely not to get stalled when following their designated path (which is good) but seldom end up where I intended (which is not good but tested on only one mission). I'd appreciate knowing if anyone else has noticed these glitches and if they have discovered work-arounds until this is fixed.
  7. Good suggestion. I hadn't thought of that. Over-all it is just too bright and synthetic looking. As with frame-rate, I expect the developers will be making improvements.
  8. It would be difficult to over-estimate the effort and talent that has gone into this offering. I've been doing some trials for a couple of days (although have had the Spitfire ever since it came out) and here are some impressions. 1 - The Spitfire simulation is starting to look quite refined. I have only one quibble so far which is lack of a roll axis trim. For some reason, with this simulation only, there is a left roll bias that can't be removed with the profiler. It's annoying. 2 - There are obviously many things still to come but as this is an "Alpha" release of the map, to be expected. Lots of things still missing in the Mission Editor, for example. 3 - Still adjusting options to get a decent frame rate. In Black Shark 2 the action is silky smooth on my gaming PC. With Normandy I have had to bump down to 1920 X 1200 plus degrade quite a few other options. It has improved but still "stuttery", especially at low altitude where more detail has to be rendered. The developers did wonders with frame rate on BS2 over time so am optimistic. 4 - Something odd about the color on this terrain - not the same level of realism you get with Caucasus. FWIW
  9. Yes. I use only SSD on all my PCs. There is amazing improvement, typically in the range of 3 to 5 times (for file transactions) what you get with rotating storage (this may depend on some other factors too, such as total RAM). Once you have used SSD any other machine without it will have you feeling something is wrong it will be so slow. SSD will markedly improve your gaming/simulation experience, especially if you are a bit short on RAM and the system has to do a lot of paging.
  10. Can't Find Download Option Ignore this - I found how to do the download. Much thanks to all who responded. It's appreciated.
  11. OK. Much thanks. I'll manage now.
  12. Hmmm .... I still don't see the Normandy map (which I prepaid), only the map + assets pack bundled for $60. Looks like I have to pay all over again.
  13. I realize I should visit these forums more frequently to stay up to date but ... My DCS presently shows version 1.5.6. Presumably DCS World 2.0/2.1 is good to go and also the Normandy map (I have the Spitfire module). I like to use the Module Updater but neither of these products shows up in the list of available downloads. I prepaid the Normandy map months ago and have the keys. Any suggestions appreciated. Best wishes, JHzlwd
  14. This has probably been addressed earlier but I don't visit the forums often and nothing came up on a search. We need more maps. With some great WWII aircraft modules like P-51 and now Spitfire we need authentic settings. The Caucasus is superb for Ka-50 missions but I'm really not interested in flying the Mk IX there. I'd rather have work on this a priority than more aircraft modules. BTW, Spitfire looks fantastic after flying around for an hour today. Nice job.
  15. When is it actually available? I pre-bought today but don't see it in the Module Manager. Does that mean it isn't actually available for download (which is OK - I don't mind saving money)?
  16. The door did the trick. Evidently they have tightened up the rules re radio setup which I had neglected before. Much thanks for the help. Best wishes, jh
  17. Thanks for responding guys, Yes, my FARP is properly supplied with fuel and ammo resources (it was working fine for months until latest update). I'll try opening the door. Best wishes, jh
  18. With this latest update re-arm/re-fuel have stopped working in all my custom missions. The pilot makes his audible request(s) upon my entering the key sequence but nothing happens. If anyone else has experienced this and found a solution I would appreciate knowing. Best wishes, jh
  19. Although this is a fantastic sim my wish is that some time the developers would forget about new features and put all their effort into a release where the only objective was to fix a few things. I have documented my own findings elsewhere in these forums but a couple of examples are: 1 - Vehicles refusing to cross bridges. 2 - Convoy units parking on top of bridge trusses rather than on the deck. 3 - Comms towers requiring 15 or more Vikhrs to destroy. 4 - Armed AI units refusing to deploy weapons. etc., etc. These things don't always happen but seem situation dependent, which makes trying to find a pattern difficult. I hate to whine when this sim is so much fun but really - some of this has been problematic for a long time. Best wishes, JH
  20. Thanks for the replies. Good to know I am not the only one seeing these things. Flagrum ... By AWOL, I mean a unit that was placed by me has disappeared. This has happened in several missions. As these were existing missions that worked perfectly in previous releases of DCS World I am confident the settings and options were correct. If these were new missions then, of course, I would look to myself for the problem. I have noted over the years that these ME glitches tend to be context sensitive which makes diagnosis difficult. They happen dependent on what else is going on. The ME is excellent in concept and architecture but these persistent glitches are becoming very troublesome. Hope I am not out of line in recommending that ED put some serious effort into the situation as opposed to adding new features which for the most part I am not even interested in. Best wishes, JH
  21. Wondering if anyone else has noted some odd things happening since the latest update to "DCS World. I have discovered the following, affecting my custom missions: (1) The Shilka I have assigned to defend the airport in one of my missions will no longer fire on the approaching enemy helicopter. I had to replace it with a ZSU, which works but would prefer having the Shilka. (2) Some unarmed land units have simply gone AWOL. (3) Some (not all) convoy units are refusing to cross uncovered bridges. By "uncovered" I mean beam style bridges. Civilian traffic allocated by the sim seems to behave normally. This was sometimes a problem with earlier versions of DCS World but it is now worse. Maybe they think there's a troll under there. (4) In the instance of truss style bridges, land units I allocate will climb up on top of the truss and park there rather than proceeding over the bridge by travelling on the deck. This looks ridiculous. I realize car dealers will sometimes promote their business by putting a couple of vehicles on top of their building or on a precariously tilted, raised raised platform but doubt very much that's what happening here. There is a comical aspect to this phenomenon, to say the least. (5) Upon encountering an obstruction on a roadway (let's say another vehicle taken out of service by an attack) some vehicles in a convoy will properly negotiate their way around and resume their journey but others will take off in a desperate panic overland, often at right angles to the road. They will continue in this wacko manner until blocked by an immovable object such as a house. At other times they will simply park some considerable distance from the road and sulk there. I can live with (1) and (2) because there are acceptable workarounds (if less than ideal) but (3) and (4) require some major rebuilding of missions so as to avoid routes with bridges, which can prove impossible. Best wishes, JH
  22. Thanks. I find F-15C in the drop-down list for Flight Controls and also the Mission Builder so no problem. I do, however, have icons for purchased A-10 and P-51 along the bottom of the startup screen so it's a bit inconsistent - probably the result of making FC3 a module within DCS World. Best wishes, JH
  23. I have had DCS World and the Ka50/P51/A-10 modules ever since they came out and play regularly. The other day I decided to go for FC3 and the F-15C. these installed without problem and the Module Manager shows F-15C serial number. What puzzles me is this : When I launch DCS World there is an FC3 icon but none for F-15C. If I choose FC3 and set wallpaper there is an image of F-15 but if I fly a training mission (for example) I am not in an F-15 but something else (could be frogfoot). There does n ot seem to be a way to choose the F-15. Shouldn't there be an F-15 icon to choose just like for Ka-50, A10C and my other purchased modules? Evidently I have missed some step in the installation process. Recommendations appreciated. Best wishes, JH
