  1. It helped me a lot. My aileron rolls on run in are 100% better, and I'm able to take atleast the first 8 tanks out with one load of rounds. After practicing quite a bit, I was even able to take a four tank column out in a single gun pass (luck played a big part I think).
  2. Fixed some bugs in my flags and reuploaded. Added radio items to detonate non-agg tanks if you want to go straight to agg tanks.
  3. I've created a mission (attached) that I hope will help everyone to bust tanks more effeciently. I know it has for me! If you need to repeat any instructions or tips, you can do it in your F10 'Other' Radio Menu. Try to follow the waypoints as it shows you how to use your MK1 eyeball and get a beam on the target properly. There are a few bonus suprises if you kill all four groups. If you make fun of my voice overs it will hurt my feelings... not everyone can be Matt frickin' Wagner! :) Edit: Added a multiplayer version Now in UserFiles: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1222074/
  4. 1st VFW. I also belong to that squadron. They're great guys and professionals. I would caution you to get the basics down before you commit to a squadron. There are many helpful people in the community and squadrons that don't mind helping you put two and two together... just make sure you have two and two first :) . The 1stVFW takes you through something called a LIFT flight for entry to the squad. It covers all the basics. If you read the manual and apply everything you learn in practical flight, you'll have no problems passing through the LIFT.
  5. If you chinahat aft long, it slaves all to your steerpoint. If you then select Marks on your AAP and page through your markpoints, your TGP will slew to each markpoint as you page through, with no other action. You can view your TGP while paging through to see the markpoints position.
  6. ФрогФут said it's going to be toned down in the next patch. 159th Viper was serious when he said the figures aren't pulled out of a .. well ya know. Paulrkiii is a RL A-10C Crew Chief and is on the ED Test team. There's already been much discussion about this behind closed doors. All is well. I'm glad to be part of a project where realism and the community are key. Can't wait to see what the future holds!
  7. I've always had good performance and little frustration, but I've been a sysadmin for 18years. I just got a SSD drive and now I'm double happy. Keeping up with the system maintenance and upgrades sure helps. You're right! Having Matt Wagner as Producer is a huge plus. He's enthusiastic about the sim and the community and really cares. Check the credits.. he did the JTAC voice himself.. and I'd bet it wasn't to save a buck. It's nice to see good feedback. Send Wags a PM and say thanks if you get a moment.
  8. Lay out some trucks and troops in a mountain pass in the mission editor (suggest putting them 'on road' for position). Make your load HEI rounds only and 25% fuel. That hawg performs! I was running in on an SA site a few days ago and got stuck in a cloud.. literally. I was flying through the cloud and had one of those 'Shock and DCS Awe'™ moments. I grinned big and brought it around to play in the cloud for a while and forgot all about my SA. Sure glad nothing nasty came along.
  9. Agree with OP, nothing comes close to this. I haven't felt this great since flying ball sims when I was in the Navy. There are a lot of things to learn and some things are more important than others, true. The question is; what is an acceptable level of understanding? Enough to kill effectively? Enough to feel like you accomplished something significant? Undefinable? I read the manual before flying, and have read it four times since, cover to cover. Once I surrendered to the manual, I found that I really enjoyed it. It's a shame how many people use it purely for reference. I can't tell you how many people I've met in multiplayer that didn't know there was a divert page in the CDU where you could get ILS/TACAN/RADIO/NAV information for every airfield. Besides that fact that three buttons gets you on the ground quicker than searching through waypoints or slewing the CDU. That's just one example. I don't mind answering questions in multiplayer. As a matter of fact, I often open a server to the community to do just that. I am glad however, that I'm the one answering more questions than I'm asking. It's very frustrating to me personally to not understand the task I'm about. RTFM... it satisfies!
  10. Select LCTRL+Pause/Break a second time to get expanded FPS and graphic info.
  11. Creating your own DCS profile in nVidia doesn't work in my experience, as the existing profile overrides it.
  12. I'm looking forward to hearing this once the link is fixed. Here's another GAU ringtone I created. It's in m4r format for the iPhone, but you can rename it mp4 for other phones.
  13. One thing.. and one thing only.. will truly bridge the curve when learning DCS:A-10C Warthog: The Manual. People will tell you they use the manual only as a reference, and learn from videos. Those are the people who ask questions for months before they get what another person gets in the manual in a week. LOMAC is an entirely different animal and won't really give you any context to DCS.
  14. I would recommend the X52pro to save money as well. If you decide on this, take a look at my prepared profile for that HOTAS here. Be aware that DCS is very CPU dependent. The better your CPU, the more performance you'll get. Also an SSD drive to run DCS from is a great idea. You don't need a huge one that also runs your operating system. Don't feel that you have to acquire all the best gear on day one. I personally have an upgrade schedule that still includes a new CPU and Warthog HOTAS.
  15. Some LUA files change from patch to patch. I like to create an "originals" folder before making any LUA changes, and drop the originals in there. That helps me do two things. * Keep a good copy in case I FUBAR one * Look at the date on the LUA to compare with the date on the LUA that comes with a patch. You can see if they made changes to it in dev by the dates... in most cases. Most user configurable files are indeed located in %userprofile%\saved games\DCS Warthog though.
  16. List of Brevity codes http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=821543#post821543 <clears throat> Brevity? Brevity!
  17. 64bit is absolutely faster and more efficient than 32bit. It refers to the way the CPU talks to the rest of the hardware. If you have a 64bit processor, it can *can* communicate with a 32bit application, but that's like heading to a distant destination and avoiding the highways. Let me explain; We'll equate 64/32bit architecture to counting on your fingers. Your brain is the CPU (of course), your fingers are the memory, and the paper you're writing on is the application. - With 32bit: You look at the piece of paper and get your problem: 2+2. Your brain sees 2, so you put up 2 fingers. Your brain sees another 2 so you put up 2 more fingers. Your brain counts your fingers and sees 4.. so you write it on the paper. - With 64bit: You see 2+2 and you also see 2+1.. you do both problems the same as above with 32bit, but you use a hand to do each problem at the same time, glancing from hand to hand rapidly then writing the two answers down at the same time with each hand. The difference is 32bit wide information flowing between the CPU and other hardware, or 64bit wide info flowing between the CPU and other hardware. Another way to look at it is a highway; 4lane is 32bit and 8lane is 64bit.. but in this highway there are intersections and streetlights. Your CPU has wait states and interrupt requests it has to deal with. So with the 32bit architecture, you have 2lanes north and 2lanes south, with traffic merging all the time.. it's a traffic jam. With 64bit you have 4lanes north and 4lanes south, but the traffic merges more smoothly. You can imagine that with the 8lane highway, the amount of cars is exponential, PLUS you have a curb lane to manage incoming traffic. 64bit is the same; exponentially more data flowing 64bits wide, and as a result much more system resources to manage waits and interrupts more efficiently. Windows 64 makes everything you do faster, but if you also have a 64bit app that's running on Windows64, you're clearing traffic with sirens while counting on your fingers and toes :)
  18. It took a while for the Blackshark manual to become available. Unlike true milspec tech pubs, they can't ship you periodic tech revisions to be added to the folder. I would speculate that once this evolving product is more evolved, a printed manual will be available. In the meantime here's a way to save paper: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59172
  19. There should be no new requirements to fire the Maverick. Cooling systems: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1163438#post1163438
  20. Whippler, here's an informative thread on EAC: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71268&highlight=eac
  21. My hawg just performs better. You can especially tell with a clean load of 25% fuel and no ordinance. My pleasure flights are always in this config, and I can tell you that the differences between 06 and 07 on the physics and energy are night and day for me. I'm also loving the increase in spacial awareness I seem to have. Will my skin meld to my HOTAS before my wife makes me to take a shower? Viewers want to know...
  22. I've stopped transferring these commands for now. I suspect there will be some more changes to the radio calls very soon. I've also recently become a tester for ED and my duties in testing 07 to help them get it out the door have been taxing. If I find out there will be no significant changes to radio calls, I'll update this post then hit VAC as hard as I can.
  23. Like most things in the realm of technology; it's relative to the end user. If a user has a high end system, particularly the video card, they won't see a drop in FPS in full screen with games like DCS, but may see a small drop in games that are more GPU dependent (common recommendation on other game forums is to turn it off). If an end user with 80% of the hardware resources of end-user1 tests their system, they may see a significant drop in frame rate in DCS in fullscreen when using Aero. The best approach is not testing on a single system (nice! Apache just flew over and shook my house) or opinion, but rather fact. What does Aero do? Aero is really the code name for full desktop effects for Vista and Win7. It utilizes the GPU to render your desktop and things that interact with the desktop with cinematographic effect. It also turns on features such as extra visual queues, animation while dragging, 'Flip 3D' to view high end graphics while Alt+Tabbing, and using movie clips as desktop wallpaper. Increased system resource use can be observed by turning it on. On the other hand, if you're not in full screen in an application, Aero enables the 'Windows Presentation Foundation' to increase graphic quality in that windowed mode app. Microsoft has told end users to disable Aero for better gaming performance. In fact, there are many games that automatically disable Aero on startup. Microsoft has specifically provided a tool, called 'Disable Desktop Composition' to allow the end user to choose disable Aero on app startups. Based on the hardware of even the 'recommended specs' of DCS, it's my opinion based on these facts, that the average end user running full screen will benefit from turning Aero off. This will free more system resources that can be used by DCS. In short, the question of whether to use Aero is parallel to the question of whether to use HDR, or high shadows. Like Nate said.. give it a try and find out how it effects your hardware and apps. As for me? I personally like to have a system that can handle the load and them some. I use Aero, HDR, and High Shadows, and my performance in DCS is more than acceptable. I hope my time in answering this has helped you guys in some way, because I know I could be using the time to help others that would definitely benefit from it. This argument, residual of another post, has been interesting and time consuming, and I wish you well in finding your truth.
