Hello all!
I started flight simulation back in the Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator Days circa 1998 or 1999. I got sooo excited to see MS CSF2 and got into that until IL-2 came out. I followed that series for quite some time and flew on line quite a bit under the call sign Sliceback which I registered here with. I followed that series until my computer wasn't keeping up, another child came along, then a move and a huge remodel, then I opened a brewery...
I didn't think about flight sims for some time until I started working on my PPL here in the US. I got into that and started in with X-Plane to learn procedures, IFR, etc. Then this COVID19 outbreak started and I saw the writing on the wall and knew I wasn't going to be finishing my PPL this year between the closures and financial chaos..better to keep my money in my pocket than in my flight instructors pocket for now.
So, what to do and keep the aviation passion burning? DCS of course! I am new to DCS, maybe a month in figuring everything out. I heard about DCS on Vincent Aiello's excellent Fighter Pilot Podcast!
Started with the TDP-51D, bought a TM Warhog HOTAS and some Crosswind rudder pedals and put my CH and Saitek stuff on the shelf! I bought the P-51D, BF109 & FW-190, WWII Assets Pack, and Normandy Map. I am implementing Helios on a touchscreen and starting to learn the FA-18. I bought some other maps, planes and modules and I am really stoked to pursue this in parallel with General Aviation.
Any old IL-2 Pilots around here? I wish I could remember then name of my old squadron...
Cheers!
