One more pit : USMC

I am pleased to see my USMC (Ugly, Separated (no link between seat and video), Mobile (on wheels, cockpit) cockpit pass the alfa stage, i bothered a lot of people while i didn t had money or idea of how to do it due to restriction of space and budget, and i thank you all for your patience.

It wasn t simple to reach a design as it has the following small list of premises:

- Must fit in tight environment (1,40m lenght X 1,20m wide (those form wall to wall with a shelves eating 20 cm of the lenght)) (knowing i m 1,80m tall)

- Must remain a confortable workstation;

- Must be easy to move around;

- Must be confortable;

- Must be sturdy for T-rex like friends or relatives;(120 Kilos (240 pounds))

- Must have at least 2 screens;

- Must have relaxed position for legs;

- Must fit in wallet;

- Room must remain usable;

- Cannot move any furniture but for the removal of the part serving as worksation.

- Must be a joy to fly and bring immersiveness.

- I should be able to do the main part myself but the finishing.

- Must reuse all hardware i have, save video board upgrade (MSI 460 hawk to MSI 580 GTX/OC)

- Must not bring the ire of the godess, (at least nothing that would made her uncontrolable)

- Must be able to be expanded in design.

- Must reuse as much useless stuff i have home as it can.

To build this still non operational early beta, i used the SIDIWA (Shit I Did It Wrong Again)method of the DIY (Do It Yourself) institude, and GOOGLESKETCH to CAD many configs until it narrowed to 2 candidates and finally a winner.

Below is the foundation of the seat, a low cost car custom seat, which at least can recline the backseat at will for more confort, the base can aso be swing forward and bacward so i can adjust the lenght of the reach of the warthog throttle for more confort. All wheels have a lock so they don t start rolling while i exert pressure on the saitek pedals.

Here is the table i made for the 37" main screen (LG 37LE5300) and my Syncmaster 22", below it fits the Saitek combat pedals in a fully workable way:

Its hard to understand how big the 37"screen is by the picture but i can t take a picture encompassing it when seated in front of it, And i don t have space to get more backward

Here we see an encompassing view of the seat environment: trusty haf 922, warthog, sea of cable... etc

Now i enter the beta stage, some adjustment must be made, and more material waited (UFC, DAMAGE PANEL, SWITCHES, etc) and programing (helios must be undertook).

By any schedule plan i will only be able to finish it middle to fall 2012 if all goes well. But it should be operational by the end of the month.

I ll keep updating as it goes on. (independent of your wishes :D )

Ragtop,

when you begin building you want it finished, but when your in the middle of the build you start thinking a million things you could add, it takes times, and its immensely more fun than i inicially tought.

And its very satisfying especially if you are in the do it yourself end of the stick.

I ve already seen half a dozen way to improve its confort, now i m figuing how to hold the Thrustmaster MFD on my 22" Samsung trying to devise something cool that could be easely taken off for lets say less modern planes cockpit (if i can export intrument in the 22")

Also trying to devise an easy way to make a panel for the screen that could be easely changeable for lets say: K50 / A10 / F18 so each one would have diferent instruments in a diferent way.

Thanks Hassata.

Ask some of my buddies I spent the first few years on my pit project just thinking and saying what I wanted to do, when I finally started I did something completely different!

As for a removable panel, why not try something similar to what I did (naturally I'm biased lol), check it out here:

My panel build is mostly on that page. I used double sided tape to fix the panel to the screen but get some velcro tape and you can mix and match a few different panels with ease. I had velcro tape why didn't I use that................. something to change!
