Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 sooner, or later, the later probably when 1.5 became available, but I couldn't stand anymore :) I had a new graphics card since about 1,5 months - ASUS GTX 960 4 GB - and used it with P3Dv2 and X-Plane 10, with excellent results, but I was holding for 1.5 to install DCS and test it with this new "bird"... Wow and WOW!!!! Yesterday night I installed the latest available version and rushed trying a couple of flights in the 109 K4.... What can I tell you ? My processor being still an i5 2500 @ 3,2 GHz, the sim feels like a new sim. I moved the display options way up, and get between 60+ and 100+ fps all of the time - WHAT A BIG BIG DIFFERENCE! I can now finally even use the VSync option ( don't know if it's a good idea, but it works ) to stay with 60 fps, but honestly, I admit this increased performance really makes a difference !!! Looking fwd for 1.5 :-) Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...

I moved the display options way up, and get between 60+ and 100+ fps all of the time - WHAT A BIG BIG DIFFERENCE! ... I had to change my GC (EVGA GTX 560) which died in july this year, and I knew this would happen one day or another ;) I replaced it with an EVGA GTX 970. I pushed everything up (except CIV) and I felt exactly like you ! @ WilBillKelsoe : To answer your question : it does. Especially with CBU-105 where my fps dropped from around 50 fps down to less than 5 during sub-munitions explosion ! DCS 1.5 (2.0) I'm waiting for you !! Johnny Dioxin Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 If you have got the 2500k, I have the same and it has been running on 4.43GHz with a cheap cooler (but decent fan-driven case cooling) since I bought it a few years ago. All I did was tweak the BIOS a little - it's very easy these days. I started off by using the overclocking prog that Asus provide with their mobo drivers - can't remember what it's called - but it tests the overclocks and then tells you what you can get and stay stable. That's what I stuck to and have had no issues at all. Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted September 27, 2015 Author Posted September 27, 2015 Hey guys, thanks a lot for your posts and suggestions. I'm not sure either ( and now away from my simming PC ) if it's a K or not, but I'll check... Anyway, I confess I was always afraid of trying OC... My finances are far from being the best, and I have this PC since January 2011 and don't think I can buy a new MB and / or cpu before at least 2 yrs... unless it crashes :-/ Regarding the performance hit when using bombs, or when there are some types of explosions, yes it still drops A LOT - there are unfortunately no miracles in this particular item, until we get 1.5 or EDGE final on our hands, I hope ! BitMaster Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 The good thing is you wont need money to overclock to a certain extend if you run a standard cooler, later on, any AIO WC would help etc... and those can be used on newer rigs as well in the future. The 2500k and 2600k are the same CPU's, they differ only by ink and label in 99% of those cpu's. Torture that SandyBridge, there is sooo much to gain there !!! Need to say that even at standart frequencies it will never reach an usage of 100% (max. was 70% with gta V) Oc won't make any difference in games, not yet, i would keep my 2500k for other 2-3 years but i will need to change it next year since there won't be any mobo with 1155 and nvlink bus for gpu.

Well, exactly in DCS World as it is now, OC makes a big difference. When I overclocked my 2600K from standard 3.8 GHz to my current 4.2 GHz I got about 20 % better frame rate, and less problems with frame rates dropping too low. Johnny Dioxin Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Must admit, I didn't notice a big change in DCS World, but there was a very big change in other sims (FSX and P3D), but then I've never had real performance issues with ED's products. BitMaster Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) I dont think anybody in here doubts that overclocking speeds up DCS :) It has been stated dozens & dozens of times and it's the reason why so many in here drive their CPU's to maximum cycles and some, for that particular reason, keep their Sandy Bridge CPU cause it overclocks like no other. Check the signatures of many in here, it will say i5/7 2xxxK 4.x GHz ; guess why ? mine, for example, gets a +20fps boost, from low 60s to high 80/90 fps. The GPU is overclocked too but that is rather cosmetic if compared to what the CPU oc achieved.
