pcalvert Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Hi, I've been looking all through the flight manual and can't find anything about the HOF and RPM settings for CBU's. I have seen several very good videos on the subject but was wondering (if it isn't in the manual) where those people get that information from? How does one know under what circumstance and conditions which setting to use? (as you can see I am confused by this!!). Also can anyone tell me where to find a complete list of enemy armor, AA's, SAMS etc? Thanks in advance for any help :) Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH

WildBillKelsoe Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 "those people" are ordinary simmers, like you and me. They just practice, test, observe, and conclude. It's the normal thing to do with a high fidelity sim like A-10C. I was planning to produce a HOF/RPM video tutorial for A-10C, but given the diversity of conditions on the field, I belayed that.. At least after further testing and confirmation. But for the sake of the argument, I will report a few findings from my (so-forth) trials; 1- CBU's general footprint is 200 x 400 meters. 2- Regardless of the settings, the other factors to consider is the speed of release (your IAS at pickle time). Of course, the wind direction and speed will play a part. So lets say your are in straight from bearing 180 to 000. JTAC reports a 3 m/s wind direction 158. That means your bomblets/pucks will move to the right and backwards (southeast) from the intended release point. Exactly how much? I'm no mathematician, but it probably has a formula. Anyways, so you correct by either aborting release from current 180-000 path, make a markpoint for target on CDU, use the bank steering bar (the yellow vertical thing on the ADI) and use the TAD OWN-> HOOK for an ingress bearing readout from the triad info (lol @ triad), and you move in with the wind 158 but place the target SPI (TGP or whatever) a little backwards from the target ( more towards your aircraft). The other way is to pickle when you've pointed the aircraft a bit northwest to the area. 3- I generally don't consider CBU's for JTAC requests because the tanks in the campaign are usually spaced out for one pass to get all triplet of them. But to get a concentrated effect on the target point, make your speed constant, and set HOF/RPM to 500/500 or 500/0. 4- Soft skinned make the most use of the higher settings. 5- CBU / 87 is a bomblet dispenser (the dumbest, akin to 82/AIR) /97 is a sensor fused weapon (smart) /103 is a Wickmid (WCMD- Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser) 87 (less dumb) /105 is a Wickmid 97 (the smartest of them all) 6- CBU's generally are a 1000 pound class weapon. In real life, the 97 costs USD 200,000 (or some according to wiki). 200 grand on a lame tank is too much if you ask me, unless bon loden is inside hollering to cap the crusaders and shit>>) So for the same weight toll, I'd move up in life and get me a wickmid, or even better, use 82/AIR for armor. Some folks might correct me, and I welcome it. The more participation, the better we all benefit. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below.
