European Based 16th Air Expeditionary Wing Recruits C-130J Crews Who We Are? 16th Air Expeditionary Wing is a small, but crucial part of CJTF-13 Batallion (EU Milsim Battalion). Battalion is aiming for the most realistic and immersive virtual experience in TAW DCS, featuring Fighter Jet, Cargo, helicopter and Control Squadrons. We follow real life procedures as closely as possible, we use strict radio communications and train HARD to get to this high level of virtual flying! This type of flight simming is not for everyone, because it requires a certain type of mindset, fierce dedication and motivation to do it right. If you are looking for relatively short, action packed missions which can be played without much in-depth planning and preparation, then the CJTF-13 is NOT the right place for you. 16th Air Expeditionary Wing consists of one C-130J Squadron: Binational Air Transport Squadron Rhin/Rhein The Binational Air Transport Squadron is the dedicated airlift squadron within the Combined Joint Task Force-13 (CJTF-13). It´s primary focus is tactical and strategic air mobility. The squadron specializes in personnel and cargo transport, aerial delivery (parachute and platform), aeromedical evacuation (MEDEVAC), humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, airborne insertion and extraction, and logistics resupply. Trained to operate from austere and short-field airstrips, the squadron is proficient in night and adverse-weather operations and in coordinating with joint and partner-nation assets for cross-border lift and reception. The Binational Air Transport Squadron is capable of sustaining distributed forces and delivering time-critical personnel and materiel across a range of threat environments. Our Schedule The CJTF-13 hold its weekly events on Sundays @ 1945 CE(S)T (Summer Time 1745Z, Winter Time 1845Z) and Thursdays @ 2030 CE(S)T (Summer Time 1830Z, Winter Time 1930Z) Our Requirements In order to apply for the C130 Squadron, make sure you are meeting our requirements: Being PRO-ACTIVE, willing to read and learn documents and perfect your skills in your own time, outside of regular training events Basic experience using Navigation, Combat Systems and Weapons Experience with using SRS (Simple Radio) and Basic knowledge of ATC Communication Able to execute proper Airbase procedures Able to speak, read and understand english Using TrackIR or a similar system, or Virtual Reality Owning C130J when it releases, Syria and Persian Gulf maps (No Free Trials!) Among other requirements, this stands alone, as most common potential disqualifier: Our applicant must be able to attend at least 35% of our events in given month. We strongly believe, that consistency and tenaciousness are keys to success If you are unable to match few of those requirements, don't give up and make sure, that you are fierce in your willing to improve in short time with or without help of our instructors. Being able to learn is The quality, that we want to see in our pilots! How to apply? In order to apply, visit our discord and ask about C-130 recruitment in public chat. Our drill instructor will reach you and open private recruitment thread, guiding you through all next steps. While you are waiting for thread to be opened, feel free to visit our Website and explore more about us But C-130J is not released yet? Yes that´s right. We don´t start flying till it is released. But we have decided to start recruiting now for people that know they want to fly the C130 on release. But we have a chance to get to know better. Also the public available information will be studied right away. Also you have to option to make a familiarization flight with either the F16, F18 or F4 Phantom to test your aviation skills. Hi everyone, There's a couple of threads on the incorrect hardened shelters at Luftwaffe airbases, so here's one concentrating on the shelters at USAFE and RAFG airbases. This principally concerns Ramstein AB, Spangdahlem AB and Hahn AB, as well as RAF Gütersloh. These airbases currently have a modified generation one shelter, with an external siding door. An example can be found in this first post of this thread, but you can see that this same type of shelter is also present at the following airbases: Ramstein AB: However, this kind of shelter is only present at Bitburg AB IRL. The smaller kind of shelter that's actually present at these airbases is the original TAB-VEE shelter, which is broadly similar to the mod. generation one shelter (they do have the same external dimensions and configuration) but has clamshell doors internal to the shelter. Here's one such example (at Spangdahlem): Here's an example at Ramstein: Here's a drawing of one with an F-15 for scale, measurements are metric: Apart from Gütersloh, the other type of shelter found at all these airbases is the generation 3 shelter, suitable for aircraft like A-10. While Ugra have done a decent attempt at recreating it, it's the wrong shape. The real thing is elliptical, Ugra's version is semi-circular, making quite a bit taller than the real thing. Compared to: This example is at RAF Upper Heyford, so it may be a gen. 2 shelter which is a little larger than the 3, but the overall shape and configuration is pretty similar with gen. 3. Here are some drawings of a gen. 3 shelter, sourced from this website: The airbase where the current mod. gen. 1 shelter is the most incorrect is RAF Gütersloh, which IRL has a shelter that looks like this: Though note, only RAF Bruggen and Laarbuch have the annex building, seen on the left of this image: Gütersloh and Wildenrath instead, look like this (Gütersloh): Wildenrath: The OP of this thread has already done a pretty good job of modelling this type of shelter.

Hi everyone, Minor bug, the newly implemented Lie Ying Falcon ("Falcon Assault Gyrocopter") has an incorrect NATO APP-6 symbol. It currently has the symbol for a fixed wing UAV: It should have the icon for rotary wing, attack - as seen with attack helicopters.

Hi everyone, In the future, would it be possible to expand the icons displayed in the mission editor and F10 map? Currently we have 2 icon styles available, NATO and Russian. Personally, I'd like to request another symbol set be included, and that's NTDS symbology (for air and naval units) and NATO APP-6A (or later) for ground units. One limitation of the current NATO symbology, is that it doesn't have direction information present, so when the game is paused, you can only find direction by clicking on a unit and reading the heading from the information table. See the spoiler below for a full legend: Where NTDS falls over on though is classifying ground units, so if NTDS would be considered, it should be used for naval and airborne units exclusively, with ground units classified under NATO APP-6A symbology (or later). Regarding the NATO symbology though, DCS typically gets symbols correct (but not always, I'll go through them all and report them), however, introduced in APP-6A, is an affiliation indication, which is done by symbol shape, and colour (currently DCS does colour, but not shape). For ground units: A blue rectangle is used to denote units that are friendly A red square at a 45° is used to denote units that are hostile A green square is used to denote units that are neutral A yellow quatrefoil is used to denote units that are unknown Another thing DCS does, is that it uses hostile symbology for REDFOR and friendly symbology for BLUFOR. Personally, I think it would be better (and more accurate) if it uses friendly symbology for units that belong to a certain side, and hostile symbology for units belonging to the side that's hostile to said side. Even better would be coalition specific symbology, even if it was NATO for BLUFOR and Russian for REDFOR (though personally, we need a drastically different coalition system that's more flexible, which I might make a separate wishlist thread about, though a similar thing has been requested before). One thing that I did mention here, is the usage of icons per unit, and icons per group. When sufficiently zoomed out, units belonging to a group should use an icon appropriate for the group (even if user defined), positioned over the average position of all the units in the group, instead of having an icon for each individual unit, which when zoomed out, end up cluttered and stacked on top of each other. When zoomed in however, such that icons are sufficiently spaced apart, they should switch to individual icons (like we have now). When clicked on the group icon, it should show a small list of units to be selected, organised the same way as the group. The only other thing I'll mention is airfield icons, would it be possible to change these to the kind of icons seen on aeronautical charts? Filled circle with runway layout for an airfield with hard-surfaced runways 1500 - 8069 ft Unfilled circle with a coloured border for airfields without any hard-surfaced runways Runway layout with a thick coloured border for airfields with at least one runway that is longer than 8069 ft Blue used to denote airfields that have a control tower Magenta used to denote airflields that don't have a control tower
