Hello Friends, i just wanted to share with you my thoughts about the main topic about VR and Head Tracking and wanted to see, what do you think about this topic too. I brought the fastest PC you can get, like RTX 4090, i9-13900K, DDR5-6000 MHz, M.2 7000 GB/S etc... But still VR seems not satisfied with it. I use the Quest 2 with LINK and just the optimization stuff took me more than 3–4 months and that was painful enough. Anyway, still after i got the best settings to run DCS very good, i noticed that the game looks very poor, the whole immersion was destroyed. My brother don't have VR, so i was looking for him for some tutorials how he could use Head Tracking in DCS. I found Opentrack and i just started my 30 FPS cheap webcam and tried it. I started DCS and i was like "whaaaat" "serious"... Then i turned all Settings in DCS to max/ultra and started the game again. Then i saw how incredible DCS graphics is and i felt in love with it. The Head Tracking feels 90% like VR and works perfectly and smooth. I just ordered a wide curved monitor 34" and i said to my Quest 2 "... bye bye, Mark Zucki..." My experience last 10 years: For some years i was using TrackIR, and i hated it and i hate it still today. I just hate the clip you have to wear, and i was not satisfied at all. These constantly interruptions drove me crazy. I just can't recommend TrackIR! Then i switched to Tobii 5 and this was good, you don't have to wear any clip or what ever. But in DCS it was going somehow "heavy" for what reason ever. I also noticed, there was a delay like 1 sec. when looking left/right. I played Star Citizen with it, DCS etc... Then i got my Meta Quest 2 and the first time i was like "i am in, i am sitting in a F-18..." then after 10 minutes i got motion sickness LOL... Then i realized, that even the fastest PC on the Market you can get, is not enough. I spend 3-4 months looking tutorials on YT, trying everything possible, and at least i was able to play but of the cost of the beautiful DCS graphics. This was not a good choice at all. Finally, i installed Opentrack with AITrack and a webcam. DCS Settings are maxed out, and the graphics is simply brilliant. Thank you, ED, for this. With my wide curved 34" screen it's hundred times better than VR. I will come back to VR, when i will be able to play DCS the same way and settings as in 2D. For now, VR seems not being made for "heavy" graphics games. TrackIR/Tobii 5 VS Free Head Tracking Software Because i used both, i am able to compare them. I was very surprised how good the free Head Tracking software works. You have not to believe me, but i can say this: TrackIR is the worst product i ever had, the tracking works not very well, and it was painful to look down or left/right because sometimes the clip was out of range. Tobii 5 was much better than TrackIR, but there was somehow a 1ms delay. The other thing, you have to stick the camera with adhesive strips and when you use the tobii 5 for some hours, it will go hot and the tobii just fall down. In DCS i was not satisfied. Imagine that, 250 bucks for such product. Opentrack + AITrack in comparison with TrackIR and Tobii 5 is way better and its free. You just use your webcam or even your smartphone. That's it! It does not matter how i look left/right and up/down, the software works perfect, no issues at all. And i don't have to fix something on my head, or monitor with tape. Just start the Head Tracking and play... Who ever buy TrackIR or Tobii 5 without trying the free webcam software, he is just fooling himself. If you may ask, how TrackIR and Tobii 5 feels, i can tell you this: The Opentrack + AITrack feels exactly the same like TrackIR and Tobii 5, but the free one works way more stable, and it cost you nothing. If you don't believe me, try it. there is no point to buy those expensive craps. By the way, I don't advertise here for Opentrack, i just want to help you save your money and have a better experience in DCS (Star Citizen, MFS 2020...). Conclusion: For those, who repeat the same phrase again and again "i can't play without VR any more..." i was saying the same phrase everywhere, but i was wrong. If you are mad about VR, just dust off your old webcam, install Opentrack and AITrack, set your DCS graphics to max and just enjoy the Game, you will never regret. DCS World has incredible graphics! And please don't buy those expensive TrackIR or Tobii 5 before you try the free Head Tracking software. I came back to 2D through coincidence, and i am just happy about this step "backward".

OpenTrack Mapping Settings - Please Help
spacefox posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi guys, I am trying to learn some of these complex airplanes but I am trying to do so by using the Monitor and not VR. Once I am comfortable with mechanics/instructions on the airplane then I will jump back into the VR. But for now I have Smoothtrack ios App working with Opentrack. By default it seems to work but I am unable to get the mapping right. For example it is very challenging to see the controls left or right of the pilot's seat in F-16. I can't move my head closer so that I can zoom. I figured it has to do the mapping. Things are so fast but not in a smooth way like in VR. I just want to be able to see the controls when I nudge my face forward to the monitor in small increments. If anyone can help me on what needs to be done, I will truly appreciate your help. Thank You
