Do you play DCS but you don’t have an IR Tracker or VR headset? have you thought about buying an IR Tracker or VR but you are hesitating because of their cost? Then we are on the same page. I’m in the same situation. I kept searching for alternative and found finally a very good one that is very comparable (if not even better than) IR Tracker. I presenting to you the Facial AI Tracking. I had my doubts at first until I tried it out myself on DCS. Yes, it is working just perfect. Here is how you need to set it up. it is totally free, yes, it is totally free and takes just about 5 minutes or even less to configure it. depending on how much do you want to reconfigure. Let’s start: Download the opentrack 2022.3.1 from Releases · opentrack/opentrack (github.com). Note, I tried the latest version opentrack 2022.3.2 but it contained a trojan, don’t use that one. The 2022.3.1 works just fine. Download the AI Track v0.7.01 from Releases · AIRLegend/aitrack (github.com) Run Setup and install opentracker. Unzip the AITrack and run AITrack.exe Follow the configuration instruction shown on this video (382) aitrackinstallsetup - YouTube Thant’s it, run DCS and enjoy. You might need to do some adjustment to that configuration/mapping in openTrack when you are in DCS until you are happy with it. Note: some Anti-Viruses have a webcam protection feature. I need to disable it on my machine before I started the AITrack and OpenTrack. You can re-enable the webcam protection when you don’t use them.

Hello Friends, i just wanted to share with you my thoughts about the main topic about VR and Head Tracking and wanted to see, what do you think about this topic too. I brought the fastest PC you can get, like RTX 4090, i9-13900K, DDR5-6000 MHz, M.2 7000 GB/S etc... But still VR seems not satisfied with it. I use the Quest 2 with LINK and just the optimization stuff took me more than 3–4 months and that was painful enough. Anyway, still after i got the best settings to run DCS very good, i noticed that the game looks very poor, the whole immersion was destroyed. My brother don't have VR, so i was looking for him for some tutorials how he could use Head Tracking in DCS. I found Opentrack and i just started my 30 FPS cheap webcam and tried it. I started DCS and i was like "whaaaat" "serious"... Then i turned all Settings in DCS to max/ultra and started the game again. Then i saw how incredible DCS graphics is and i felt in love with it. The Head Tracking feels 90% like VR and works perfectly and smooth. I just ordered a wide curved monitor 34" and i said to my Quest 2 "... bye bye, Mark Zucki..." My experience last 10 years: For some years i was using TrackIR, and i hated it and i hate it still today. I just hate the clip you have to wear, and i was not satisfied at all. These constantly interruptions drove me crazy. I just can't recommend TrackIR! Then i switched to Tobii 5 and this was good, you don't have to wear any clip or what ever. But in DCS it was going somehow "heavy" for what reason ever. I also noticed, there was a delay like 1 sec. when looking left/right. I played Star Citizen with it, DCS etc... Then i got my Meta Quest 2 and the first time i was like "i am in, i am sitting in a F-18..." then after 10 minutes i got motion sickness LOL... Then i realized, that even the fastest PC on the Market you can get, is not enough. I spend 3-4 months looking tutorials on YT, trying everything possible, and at least i was able to play but of the cost of the beautiful DCS graphics. This was not a good choice at all. Finally, i installed Opentrack with AITrack and a webcam. DCS Settings are maxed out, and the graphics is simply brilliant. Thank you, ED, for this. With my wide curved 34" screen it's hundred times better than VR. I will come back to VR, when i will be able to play DCS the same way and settings as in 2D. For now, VR seems not being made for "heavy" graphics games. TrackIR/Tobii 5 VS Free Head Tracking Software Because i used both, i am able to compare them. I was very surprised how good the free Head Tracking software works. You have not to believe me, but i can say this: TrackIR is the worst product i ever had, the tracking works not very well, and it was painful to look down or left/right because sometimes the clip was out of range. Tobii 5 was much better than TrackIR, but there was somehow a 1ms delay. The other thing, you have to stick the camera with adhesive strips and when you use the tobii 5 for some hours, it will go hot and the tobii just fall down. In DCS i was not satisfied. Imagine that, 250 bucks for such product. Opentrack + AITrack in comparison with TrackIR and Tobii 5 is way better and its free. You just use your webcam or even your smartphone. That's it! It does not matter how i look left/right and up/down, the software works perfect, no issues at all. And i don't have to fix something on my head, or monitor with tape. Just start the Head Tracking and play... Who ever buy TrackIR or Tobii 5 without trying the free webcam software, he is just fooling himself. If you may ask, how TrackIR and Tobii 5 feels, i can tell you this: The Opentrack + AITrack feels exactly the same like TrackIR and Tobii 5, but the free one works way more stable, and it cost you nothing. If you don't believe me, try it. there is no point to buy those expensive craps. By the way, I don't advertise here for Opentrack, i just want to help you save your money and have a better experience in DCS (Star Citizen, MFS 2020...). Conclusion: For those, who repeat the same phrase again and again "i can't play without VR any more..." i was saying the same phrase everywhere, but i was wrong. If you are mad about VR, just dust off your old webcam, install Opentrack and AITrack, set your DCS graphics to max and just enjoy the Game, you will never regret. DCS World has incredible graphics! And please don't buy those expensive TrackIR or Tobii 5 before you try the free Head Tracking software. I came back to 2D through coincidence, and i am just happy about this step "backward".

At what time can we expect Eagle Dynamics to allow Tobii Eye Tracker to become "native" in DCS? I mean so, that, we have Tobii integrated with DCS in all aspects, such as during external views etc. So we can make better videos. It is not as fully integrated with native support in to DCS as, for an example, in Star Citizen. I think that ED must this work upon more because Tobii is more natural than TrackIr, and eventually will replace all other Head Track contraptions which must be worn upon the head.

ED, first of all 2021 look to be an amazing year for you guys and the community, Please can I make one small request please, can you please allow the users of the Tobii 4 and 5C to have full 6DOF in cockpits, by default only head and eye-tracking with 3dof, but you are unable to lean in and out. the eye trackers are capable to do this function, as is the engine because TrackIR and similar products do it, let alone VR. I understand this won't be an overnight task as your dev schedule is pretty full, but if it could at ;least be considered, you'd make some Tobii owners very happy!

Dear Friends , I am struggling to progress in this masterpiece . 1. I bought too many modules (that is on me ) 2. I cannot switch between mouse look ( great for fine movements over switches ) and headtracking (just great for every thing else ) I can turn off head tracking with a hotkey , but at that point the mouse will not allow mouse movement to move the camera around the cockpit . With headtracking I can look around (and zoom with a slider on my hotas ) but I cannot stay still enough to easily flick switches . When I watch tutorial vids its obvious that there is a better way to do it . I know I can go into controls , clear the head track controls and get the mouse to work but I really want to change between the two methods on the fly . Alternatively, if anyone can suggest another way I will be hugely grateful , I have an embarrassing total of hours in this thing but am still dangerously rubbish (despite actually flying a fair amount in real life ..not military I hasten to add ) 3. Greedy but ALSO ! Snap views obviously are just that , a quick look , how can you set up (or can you ) custom views of , say, a panel , and then be able to have a cursor to click on the switches ?? Thanks , happy flying and if you ever see a confused looking plane fly into the ground its probably me , Di
