Sov13t Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) Dear to whom it may concern: Our dedicated server [51st PVO Regiment] is being absolutely overrun by temporary files that are not being cleaned up by DCS. Over the last year we have ~120GB worth of files that seem to be useless corrupt instances of tracks and missions in the following directory: AppData\Local\Temp\DCS Please investigate this matter and implement an automatic clean up of these files in the future versions of DCS. Or advise what steps need to be taken so that this is not an ongoing issue. Screenshots attached. Thank you, -Sov13t Edited February 1, 2014 by Sov13t [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
Frostie Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) I'd really like to know if this will be addressed in future versions, could someone please advise. 100+gb is a lot of space being taken up. In the last 3 days it has stored 8 Gb of data. Edited February 3, 2014 by Frostie "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. TaliG Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 This is a problem not only for servers but also for client PCs. I already have around 20Gb of MP .trks recorded on my harddrive without my permission. All other software that uses this folder to save ''something'' automatically, (autosaves), gives me at least the option to disable this feature and ''save'' whenever I want. So either try to fix this issue please or add a line to the minimum PC specs of DCS world: Minimum hard drive free space for MP: ''unlimited''. ENO Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) Wasn't there a program someone wrote that was like a crap cleaner for dcs? Have to look into that again... Thanks for mentioning it though... Forgot about that folder. Found it- may be handy? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=113654&highlight=Dcs+cleaner Whoops... Noticed he doesn't target this folder. Maybe an easy switch or add on? I've added to his thread. TaliG Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Most software fills up the %TEMP% folder and does not clean it up after. It is a good idea to clear these folders from time to time: CTRL+A Hold Shift+DEL permanently. %TEMP% C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\DCS\Logs C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks\Multiplayer The tracks folder, if it's never been cleared, may be as large as 10GBs if you fly often online. I am well aware of programs saving crap constantly in the : C:\Users\usename\AppData\Local\Temp. I am also aware of C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS folder C:\...\saved games\ is not a temp folder. Any software that wants to write in there anything other than their config files, like saves and autosaves, will give you atleast the option to not let them save anything more than their config files. (disable autosave) from inside the game. This option is already there in SP. It lets you decide whether to save the .trk or not after you exit a mission. galevsky06 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Hello, I wrote DCS Cleaner to remove generated stuff like .trk, .acmi and screenshots. These are nice features that I want to be enabled, but I was looking for painless way to clean my disk. I have to do another version in order to support DCS Beta, and add this directory too.
