OverDhill Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 For me if I used the Desktop DCS World icon it tried to update and would corrupt the install. However I used the Update DCS World Icon from the Start menu and that worked. I had to do a complete hard drive image restore and low and behold it did the same thing again. This is on a Windows 7 x64
Lucican Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I'd like to see a calm, ordered and detailed explanation of what's wrong with your DCS install. Well, the problem arised when I attempted to update DCS from version 1.2.6 with the updater. I ran the updater with and without admin privileges to see if that would solve anything, and it didn't. Whenever I did that (while I disabled every feature on bitdefender), it would get me stuck on a green bar with the quote, "Updating myself". After that I simply downloaded the new version of DCS and installed that in without using the updater and the game updated fine. To sum it up, I uninstalled the old game and reinstalled the new one instead of using the updater. There was nothing wrong with the installation process, it was just an updater problem.
Shaman Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) So I used to play the 1.2.6 DCS with Flaming Cliffs 3 and it worked splendidly, loved it to bits. Then the 1.2.7 update comes out. I am then forced to the update since I uninstalled the game to reinstall it to a better hard drive. But when I attempt to start the update and play, it Never, I repeat, Never, goes out of, "replacing old updater". I left my computer on and got a good 8 hours of sleep and this thing didn't even budge. Not only that, Ctrl+alt+Del, shutdown commands, restart, and logoff commands don't respond when the updater is open. Basically the game is doomed for me and I can't restart unless I force shut it down (Unplug power cable /or/ hold down power button) Blissful game, dreadful Updater. Would love some help. I had BSOD after using updater on my first PC, had to reinstall game with full setups from DCS website. However on my 2nd PC I use Steam distributions, there - version by version, everything works wonderfully. Lucican, I recommend use Steam distributions then. Steam updates seamlessly without user effort. You may redeem your keys on Steam to get your modules as DLC back. But I'll probably do that when there is a new update since I already got my current game working well.
The_Pharoah Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 ok I sorted my issue (for now). Previously, DCS World would install fine (1.2.7) but when I tried running it, it would essentially crash my system ie. it would freeze at the 'initialising' or something screen and would disable everything else. Thats after reinstalling multiple times. What I tried, which seemed to work, was I installed everything (ie. all the modules) WITHOUT running DCS World. I then ran DCSW multiplayer and then ran DCS world...and it worked. Not sure whats happened there but it works for now. Never had a problem before. Winfield_Gold Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 probably a bit late, but did you make a note of exactly what the DCS World Shortcut Icon string contained? Yes, this is the target file from the original dcs world shortcut "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" If I run that, it just freezes with the green line and nothing happens. This is after a complete install of the 1.2.7 from the digital combat sims website. I was having the same problem after the auto update after the 1.2.7 open beta went to complete 1.2.7 release The only way to fix it is to run the launcher.exe directly as a shortcut and not run the original dcs world shortcut which is placed on the desktop after fresh install
Azrayen Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Mojeaux, it's "voilà". O then i. ;) About DCS, did you try to add an exception to (or get rid of) your Bitdefender?

ED Team c0ff Posted February 4, 2014 ED Team Posted February 4, 2014 I had BSOD after using updater on my first PC, had to reinstall game with full setups from DCS website. BSOD = hardware or driver problem. No application can cause BSOD ever. Dmitry S. Baikov @ Eagle Dynamics LockOn FC2 Soundtrack Remastered out NOW everywhere - https://band.link/LockOnFC2.
