For the longest time the Firehouse TS3 server was restricted to the SimHQ community. Restricted is a bit of a harsh word... but the fact is the TS3 server was a SimHQ domain and we weren't able to openly share the password. I totally understand that- and that's fine that it is that way. In fact, it makes for a nice little community of folks who love gaming. The problem is that folks would come in and try to partake in the activities but were always held back in the absence of TS3.

Some people just don't want to join "another" site... or they tried to and their registration authorization took too long... or or or.

Anyway- the time has come to lock down the Firehouse DCSW Server and make TS3 mandatory. In order to do this and have some control over the information on the TS3 server itself (like the Firehouse server password) I needed to host a TS3 server.

I'd done this before but never really used it since it was just an alternate to the SimHQ server when it was down. To SimHQ's credit- that wasn't often.

Eno's Firehouse Server Lounge will remain at SimHQ and is still a great place to go see what's going on and help each other out with hardware or software issues and talk about some of the mission activity. You'll still need the free registration to contribute but not to read it. There is much more server info at the link in my sig.

I'd like to welcome all enthusiasts at all levels to join the server. The only "Golden Rule" of the Firehouse is to "BE NICE." I thank Phoenix Fire Department for that Mission Statement.

The Firehouse community is not a squadron... it's just a bunch of guys who love the sim who get together and fly their hearts out. There's no signing up and no real schedule except for Fly In events. Like most servers we have busy times that vary depending on the day. We don't take ourselves THAT seriously- but the server has been running 24/7 for two years.

It's not the place to go if you're still at the "how do I fly?" and "how do I blow up stuff" stage. It's for enthusiasts to come and put a bit of a polish on their skills, or help others do the same. The whole server was founded by guys helping each other out and that is a culture I'd like to maintain. The server is protected by SLMOD and it does a great job to keep things in line in the absence of admins. As you get settled in with the other folks in the server there is an SLMOD exclusion list that allows latitude for regulars who make an honest mistake...

Hope to see you there!

Well... I gave it a pretty good run for two years but I've lost the drive and am closing the doors. The Firehouse will be available for fly ins and the server resources will be available if needed whether it's just a stand alone server to host events or the TS3 server (TARS ready)... just IM me if you have a need for them.

The server is located in Alberta, Canada and will maintain a 15 up connection. It's been extremely reliable (well- on the hardware level) throughout its 2 year run 24/7... so if you need it we'll work something out.

The Hollo Pointe server, hosted by Wrecking Crew, maintains a very similar atmosphere and is very casual but enthusiastic.

Well this is a sad state of affairs indeed. About a year ago I was a struggling noob looking for some friendly folks to fly MP missions with and show me the ropes. I will always be grateful to the Firehouse crew for providing just that and will always have fond memories from those early days. The MP community owes a debt to Eno for carrying the torch of enthusiasm throughout some very trying times brought about by the consequences of an evolving platform and I am hoping that this move is just a hiatus.:bye_3:

Sorry to hear that we are losing that server.

As mentioned in a couple other threads, I'm really going to try and get the Firehouse back up and running again.

I came back about a year ago and was overcome by technical difficulties. I just didn't have the jam left to work through them. This time around, I got the server back up and running again and things seem to be running hot, straight and normal with 1.5 anyway.

This thread ended almost 3 years ago and a lot has changed. A lot of new platforms and a lot of new content. Sadly, some of the mission building bugs remain and it's going to take some time to figure out not only what everyone wants but also how to get the pieces to play together as well as not depend on scripting that is vulnerable to ED dev side changes every update.

What that latter part translates into is some pretty unremarkable mission content- but for me the experience was really only about 20% about the mission and 80% who I was flying with. The Firehouse community were among some of the finest online enthusiasts I've ever encountered and I'd like to try and get that going again.

So if you have a moment to plop down a few ideas about what is "missing" out there in terms of online servers- please do so here.

The server won't be up full time just yet- I'm still trying to fine tune a baseline server template that incorporates most modules to allow for natural opponents to fight each other in their own little section of the map. I'm also trying to figure out how reliable the JTAC function is now and have it working properly in a couple of instances. Well enough to know it should work as intended even without scripts.

AI ground pathfinding is still a challenge from what I'm reading, and dynamically spawned aircraft are causing crashes so no go on those.

I've always been an A-10C sim guy so that's where my design strength is. Any old fashioned A-10C / A guys looking for a place to congregate that isn't too procedure orientated? This might just be the place for you.

I'm only running 1.5 so far- I have the new map but I'm not quite up for the challenge of Alpha on the mission making side.

Anyway, hoping for some feedback to help me get my feet under me again and back in action.

A quick update.

I have succeeded in getting the Firehouse Server back up and running again. Mission content is still a bit slow in coming but I am running the 476th target range with all available slots in 2.0.

I have split the mission into north and south target areas. This was an effort to ensure good performance for all clients. JTAC positions are all human only.

Like many, I'm currently working through MOOSE to generate dynamic mission content. This is like trying to teach a monkey how to play ping pong- painfully slow but hilarious at the same time.

Unlike the "old days" the server is currently password protected. I'm happy to share the password with any enthusiasts within the community- but I'd like to keep the server content mature and friendly. Please just send me PM.
