ocf81 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 During retrieval of the new version (1.2.7) I was asked to update the update itself. Unfortunately my machine hung during this update and I was forced to reset the machine. I tried running the updater again, but it seems to have been corrupted. The same seems to be true for the uninstaller. Both shortcuts in the start menu give me an x64 compatibility error. The game itself still runs, but has of course not been updated. I wonder what I should do next. Can I get the updater as a standalone download, and then fix the rest? Is there a way to fix this without completely reinstalling all my modules? If I reinstall, can I do so without wasting an activation slot? Do you play DCS on linux? Consider joining the DCS on Linux Matrix space!

Tone71 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Do you have a Windows backup of the "bin" folder, where the updater resides (i.e can you "restore previous version")? If you can restore it, try running again after disabling antivirus software, notably BitDefender. ocf81 Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) Unfortunately, the uninstaller gives me the same error when I run it, so repairing is not possible. Restoring didn't work either. I tried running the exe in the bin, but that gives me the same error. (Both for the updater and the uninstaller) I would like to avoid doing a full reinstall if possible, especially if that means losing an activation. HiJack Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 You dont lose an activation. Just delete tne DCS World program folder.
EtherealN Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Regarding activations: it is the COMPUTER that is activated, not the INSTALL. You can, literally, reinstall an infinite amount of times without it costing an installation, if it is on the same computer. (Note: reinstalling OS does, for technical reasons, look the same as a "new computer".) You may get asked to put in your serial number(s), but usually they will in this case simply check the database for hardware hash and then tell you that you are already activated and thus put the relevant registry entries in without deducting an activation from your serial number. ocf81 Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Didn't I say that already. :) There's different ways of uninstalling. A complete clean, including the registry. and a wipe of the files on the disk. I have no idea how starforce registers and manages the keys. As I understand it now, one can apparently wipe the files of the disk and keep the keys on the system when I run the installer again. It could just be that the installer wipes the old keys when installing. BTW, I think that having an updater that freezes this way is a sign of bad code quality. I would not overwrite the old updater the way this updater does it. It certainly doesn't seem to be using journalling. Edited March 18, 2014 by ocf81 Do you play DCS on linux? Lizzard Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 go to your DCS World Folder...there is a File named "autoupdate.cfg" rename that File to "autoupdate.cfg.old" or something and restart the Game. What happens then?! My Specs: I don`t care..it is a Computer..a black one..
ocf81 Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 The suggestion of just deleting and rerunning the installer worked. thanks a lot :) Do you play DCS on linux? Consider joining the DCS on Linux Matrix space!
