Animalmother Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 So I noticed there was no 1 sound file for flyby sounds. The ones we have now are just so dam annoying. When a plane is near mach, it gives out this ear piercing extremely high pitched swooshing sound, then when it passes, its still too high pitched. I want a rumble like you hear in real life, and I have the sound clips, but I guess the game just alters the frontengine sound and backengine sound for the flyby. So no chance of getting rid of these deafening flyby sounds?
NEODARK Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 The main issue I have with engine sounds is when you are viewing your plane from the outside view and moving the camera around. First is really low (when viewing the front of the plane) but as soon as you are anywhere close to the engines, there is this HUGE boom and my desk shakes... (thanks to a mean sub under it) if you move the camera back and forth its like breaking the sound barrier over and over (quite annoying)
Guest IguanaKing Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I have yet to hear an actual sonic boom in a recording. The problem is that a sonic boom overwhelms the recording device. I've heard lots of high-speed passes with near-instantaneous arrival of afterburner noise (which are being called sonic booms on the internet), but no actual sonic booms yet.

I've seen a JAS-35 going at Mack .98, now that's loud! can't imagine the thing going Mach 1+, so I guess the "sonic boom" in lomac is as close as it gets, and if you're unstatisfied, you can always download zzz-space's soundpack, if it's up-to-date with 1.12a. yamangman Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Why would a JAS-35 travelling at mach .98 be any louder than it travelling at mach .00001 at full afterburner? What I would like to see is reproduction of at least a semi-realistic sound engine, when you fire a rocket soalvo, it dosn't cut out the sound of the previous instance. Even with an improvement like you suggest Animalmother, the engine as it is would never be able to come near producing anything realistic.
Guest IguanaKing Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Yup...all we can do is approximate the sound of a sonic boom, since, to my knowledge, it is impossible to successfully record one. Its something that is "felt" in your ears and body, more than being "heard". ;)
Animalmother Posted February 28, 2006 Author Posted February 28, 2006 actually, I saw in the military.com forums the exact same soundclip of the sonic boom in lock on from a F-105 thunderchief breaking the barrier. I suppose it was recorded from a pretty big distance. And is there really much of a difference between mach .98 and 1.0? The pressure cone is just moved back a few feet (or less maybe).
hitman Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 i dunno...ive seen a vid of a tomcat passin between ships at mach speed, sounded pretty close to a sonic boom...like cracking a whip. Cant remember which video it was though. Shaman Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Annoyin high-pitch low-pitch sounds occur only if: 1. full hardware sound acceleration is disabled (check dxdiag) 2. you have a bad sound card (onboard AC97 or something simmilar) 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer

Flying supersonic at that altitude, at that distance from the carrier would have damaged things and people on the ship.

Shaman Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 great, my exact sound card :( well what do your guys's flybys sound like? They sound really good man. None of these annoying high-low pitch whistles. Lots of distortion and rumble, low freq. More fun with soundbarrier. Get a soundcard from Creative http://www.soundblaster.com/, as soon as you can. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
