1.2.8 Release F15

1.Running Head on in STT with AIM9 selected. AIM9 Seeker head doesn't slew to Radar LOS/TD box why ?

From the Weap Manual

2. In a fight with guns Selected, I select Vert Acq, this then selects the last selected missile mode why ? Shouldn't it remain in Guns ?

1. I'd have to know the sequence of what you're selecting. While you are correct that the seeker indicator should follow (and we should have the ability to uncage for validation), the AIM-9 indicators do strange things, and have for a while.

In your illustration, the smaller circle- the seeker indicator, should be on the target, while the larger (ASE) remains in position. The problem is that this is an illustration of the "scan rescind" mode, which should appear with an active radar, but after you have rejected the target it has locked. You've got a lock. Like I say- strange things.

2. Gun mode in the F-15 doesn't work like you may think. When you go to guns without a lock, but active radar, the static piper is the bore sight of the radar, which then acquires the opponent. You cannot force another mode on top of guns to use outside of this without switching weapon. Vertical scan is a SRM missile mode; you can enter guns with a lock from there, but going there from guns cues missiles.

If you have a HOTAS where you can set the weapon priority as they are on the F-15, it makes more sense.

Get your lock in Vert, then thumb to guns.

" You cannot force another mode on top of guns to use outside of this without switching weapon. Vertical scan is a SRM missile mode"

Thanks Lunaticfringe I didnt know (or deduce from the manuals) that Vertical Scan was in fact associated with SRM mode. It was my incorrect impression that if in gun mode the Gun Acquistion radar mode would be overridden by the Vert acq mode whilst still keeping the gun as the active weapon.

+1 to be able to uncage the AIM9 head I think deep in the bowels of the game code the fact that FLOOD mode is the same keybinding is causing grief here.

I would like to see 6 as a dedicated Cage/uncage mode whilst flying the F15 ... the Devs should put FLOOD mode on another keybinding.

Here is some other associated weirdness related to FLOOD mode in DCS

If in AIM9 as the selected weapon radar on in search, you select FLOOD mode (or try to cage/uncage the head since it and flood mode are on the same keybinding !!!), this results in the Radar being turned off AIM 9 going to scan mode (large circle).

If in AIM120 Radar on in search, selecting FLOOD mode results in the WCS defaulting to AIM9, turns radar off with caged AIM9

If in Guns Radar in Gun acq mode (no lock) selecting FLOOD mode results in WCS defaulting to AIM7 with radar in FLOOD (maybe this one is plausible).

Be nice to see AUTO FLOOD work in those cases when it should to :)

You have to get into the weapons manuals for the ties. The challenge here is that you have the devs tying themselves to six/seven mode keys, and not necessarily dealing with actual functionality of those modes in anything but sensor acquisition. One of the reasons I've mourned the loss of Warthog World was some of the stuff on advanced coding, as such I'm trying to recreate the functionality correctly by not allowing modes or sequences of HUD to come up.

Another BUG in AIM7 HUD symbology. The AIM7 reference circle is too small. It should be the same size as the AIM120 and FLOOD Reference circles. Graphic on the Left is what we see at the moment. on the right what we should be seeing.
