Quick question to who have CA.

Hello.

 

I made another thread about what addon to buy CA or F-15 and the f-15 seems to be the winner so far.

 

So before I make my mind up what to you guys who have already CA, think it's worth it to buy now or get something else ?

I would say, depends what you want. If you want F-15, buy F-15!

 

If you are into strategy games, you are a big fan of tanks / APCs or Anti Air vehicles...but still playing DCS simulations, you've read the "Firestrike 7/9" or "Danger Close" or other book about JTAC guys and feel the urge to JTAC yourself, you are a mission designer and looking for more control over a mission as a Game Master...then buy Combined Arms ? :-)

I do like the idea of control of ground forces while in my A-10c.

 

And I do fear if I got the f-15/fc3 it would slower for me to learning the A-10c as I will flying to the other planes as well lol.

Both are good. I tend to use CA to shoot down planes rather than move units around on the map, but when I'm in an A-10 it can be awesome to move some tanks or arty into position to soften up AAA or SAMs.

I can rag on CA all day long but there aren't too many things that are more awesome than being in a JTAC vehicle coordinating a bunch of client flown aircraft onto targets. There are some fundamental weaknesses (AI can see through basically everything except actual terrain) but properly set up the JTAC can be a real charge to occupy.

 

Also, if you are simply directing AI troops versus AI troops- things become a bit more equal. You handicap your forces by sitting in the seat- since they can see much further than you and through obstacles.

 

With that said, I'd definitely wait for the sale and get CA and FC3... don't limit yourself to just the F15C... especially with the AFM for the SU27 right on our doorstep.

AI cant see through buildings and neither can you but both can target through autogen (trees/bushes). If you have a general idea of where the AI is you just have to scan that area while pressing the targeting key (enter) at random. Chances are you will get a lock quite quickly. I think I have driven more than one AI ground commander absolutely nuts by knocking out his tank as he is moving through a clump of trees.

 

Long story short...only use buildings as cover for fire from other vehicles. Trees are only good for cover from manned airborne threats.
