DPS
Here’s an interesting project (I’m beginning to regret having started) to produce a directory of English, French and German military expressions connected with Lock On. One obvious omission is that of Russian/Cyrillic. If any Russian speakers would like to add their own terms I would be very grateful. благодарность AA guns = canons AA = Flugabwehrkanonen AB = base aérienne = Fliegerhorst/Luftstützpunkt Administrative Region = Région Administrative = Verwaltungsgebiet Air Defence System = système de défense aérienne Air Strike = Luftangriff = Frappe aérienne Air-to-Surface missiles = Luftbodenraketen Allied Tactical Air Force = Armée de l’Air Tactique Alliée = Taktische Luftwaffe der Alliierten Anti-armour strikes = Luftangriffe gegen Panzer = frappes anti-blindés Anti-Ship Strike = Frappe Anti-navire = Anti-Ship Luftangriff anti-submarine aircraft = Lutte anti sous-marins = U-Boot-Jagdflugzeug armour = cuirasser = Panzer Armoured Regiment = Panzer Regiments = régiment blindé Ashore = an Land assigned targets = cibles concernées = zugeteilten Ziele Attack Regiment = Regiment d’attaque = Sturm Regiment AWACS = bandits = Gegner BARCAP = Battle Damage Assessment = Schadensermittlung Bay of Kalamita = Kalamita-Bucht Bereg guns = Bereg artillerie côtière = Bereg Geschütz buffer zone = Pufferzone entmilitarisiertes Gebiet call-sign = indicatif d’appel = Rufzeichen Callsign = Rufzeichen CAP = Luftüberwachungseinsatz Cape Tarkhankut = = Tarkhankut Cape = Kap Tarkankut Circling = Kreisen Command and Control Centre = centre de commandement et de contrôle command bunker = poste de commande Contact = = signal radar = Echozeichen beim Radar Cruiser = le croiseur = Kreuzer Dardanelles = Les Dardanelles = die Dardanellen Depot = depot Downed = abgeschoßen electronic reconnaissance = renseignement électroniques = elektronischer Geheimdienst Embarkation = Einschiffung Embarkation = Einschiffung Emergency landing field = Notlandungfeld FAC = Zieldarstellungsflugzeug Fighter Wing = Jagdgeschwader = l’escadron de chasse fighter sweeps = missions offensives de chasseurs first light = à l'aube = bei Tagesanbruch fixed-wing aircraft = Starrflügler Flight = Schwarm forming up = faire formation = bildend Forward Operating Location = bases de déploiement opérationnel (FOL) = Vorgeschobener Operationsplatz FPS = Frigate = Fregatte fuel-air explosive bomb= bombes aerosols = Aerosolbombe Garrison = garnison German Air Force = l’armée de l’air allemande Get their act together = améliorer= die Kurve kriegen Great Patriotic War = Großer Vaterländischen Krieg ground attack = l’attaque au sol = Luftangriffe ground attack aircraft = Schlachtflugzeug Guards Regiment = Escadron de chasse= Jagdgeschwaders Gulf of Karkinitsk = Baie de Karkinit Gulf of Karkinitsk = Karkinit Bai HAVCAP = Infantry Fighting Vehicles = véhicules de combat d’infanterie Intercept = Interception = Abfangen Interdiction = kills = victoires = Luftsiegen launch = decollage= starten Launch vehicles = véhicules de lancement light tanks = tanks legers = m/s = = mètre par seconde = Meter je Sekunde MANPAD = Fliegerfaust (Ein-Mann-Waffe) Military Intelligence = Militärisch Nachrichtendienst missile launch point = point de lancement = Raketenabschusspunkt Nautical mile = Seemeile no-fly zone = Flugverbotszone Oberleutnant = Lieutenant On-Call CAS = De garde pour Soutien Aérien Rapproché one o’clock position = eins Uhr Position Overrun = envahir = überrollen post-strike reconnaissance = Schadensermittlung pre-programmed route = itinéraire pré-programmé = vorprogrammierten Route Rearmed = réarmer = wiederbewaffnet reconnaissance flight = Aufklärungsflug Recover = atterrir = landen RESCAP = Russian Naval Aviation (AV-MF) = Russische Marinefliegerflottille Russian Navy = Russische Marine SAM site = emplacement missile sol-air = Boden-Luft-Rakete Stellung Scattered (cloud) = clairsemé = verstreut Scramble (aircraft) = L'ordre de décollage d'urgence = Alarmstart SEAD = Niederhalten der gegnerischen Luftverteidigung self-propelled artillery = Canons automoteurs= Panzerhaubitze Shipborne Fighter Aviation Regiment (KIAP) = Marineflieger Geschwader Shturmovik Aviation Regiment = régiment d’aviation de Shturmovik= Shturmovik Schwadron Signal = communication by radio= Funkspruch Spetsnaz = Spetsnaz Strike Escort = Begleitschutz strike package = flotille de frappe = Angriffsflotte submarine depot ship sous-marin ravitailleur = U-Boot-Tender support vehicles = véhicules de renforts Tanker = Tankflugzeug TARCAP = Task Force = Kampfgruppe Taxi (aircraft) = rouler to deal with = s'occuper de = austragen Trade (idiom) = targets = Ziele Transports = avion de transport = transportflugzeuge UN Protection Force = UN-Schutztruppe Western Allies = die Westliche Alliierten Wingman = ailier = Rotte

DPS
Excellent work by the contributers to the Russian forum. I'm looking forward to using your translation for German Air Force in my next campaign. MANPAD is the word we would use for your SA-16 (Igla) missile launcher (NATO codename Gimlet). On-Call CAS is something A-10s, Su-25s and F-16s would do: circle near the battlefield whilst waiting for a soldier on the ground to give them a target to attack. Recover is the term used for aircraft landing back on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Maximus_G
Emergency landing field = запасной аэродром (comment : актуально до сих пор) Запасной аэродром - это alternate, reserve. MANPAD is the word we would use for your SA-16 (Igla) missile launcher Then it could be just "ПЗРК (переносной зенитный ракетный комплекс)", meaning "portable SAM". On-Call CAS is... Then On-Call CAS из "непосредственная авиаподдержка". Recover - dunno... What's the difference between it and just landing? Afaik, there's no special term for that in Russian. Deck landing = "посадка на палубу".

butcher
Vito
It'd be good if you finished your page and then let someone, who really speaks Russian and not thinks he does, translate it. It's very good, actually, that you didn't go to a dictionarry and try to do it on your own... It may not be important for the English speaking people, but when Russians watch American movies with "Russians", the whole thing turns into a comedy, no matter in what ganre it was created :)

Vito
DPS
Thanks again for your help. I'll hopefully have the web site finished (with some Russian) next week. I've already got lots of Su-27/33, A-10 and F-15 campaigns to share - but no Su-25 missions (I've never had enough time to learn anything about this aircraft). As I have lots of extra bandwidth I'd be more than happy to host any Su-25 Campaigns.
