jcbak Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 There have been a few occasions lately when my right engine will shutdown. The aircraft is in straight and level flight.....nothing in particular is happening. The right engine will shut down and cannot be restarted. I tried reassigning the throttle control so that the left throttle will control both engines but that didn't solve the issue. There have been times when I've had trouble starting the right engine as well. This has never happened with the left engine. I follow the start up checklist from the manual exactly. Any suggestions are appreciated. PFunk1606688187 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Well I know that you can start the Left Engine without turning on the boost pumps owing to the DC boost pump which feeds the APU from the Left Fuel System which could explain issues with the Right Engine during startup, but as to the Right Engine failing in flight I don't know. You say its straight and level so its almost definitely not a negative G issue. A couple inexperienced friends of mine in the A-10 I've been playing with lately have seen engine failures under normal flight conditions. I chocked it up to their inexperience leading to doing something incorrectly but in the back of my mind I wondered if it might be a bug. What makes me question the bug reasoning is that I've put a lot of hours into the A-10C in the last few months and it was both straight and level as well as very vigorous combat and I've not seen any engine failures from anything but combat damage. I'd suggest a bird strike even but you say it happens repeatedly to the same engine which is... not consistent with the probabilities associated with bird strikes. I'm curious but stumped. Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.
jcbak Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Birds and intermittent system failures are turned off. I tried AUTOSTART as well thinking that I might be missing something in start up but got the same result. The only thing I can come up with is that on occasion I bring up the Briefing page to reacquaint myself with the mission. I was wondering if I might be somehow clicking on the right engine FIRE handle when exiting from the briefing page which would explain why I can't restart. USSInchon Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) Are the fuel boost pumps turned on? Also make sure your throttles are at idle. I have hat it where a restart or start won't happen because your throttle is above idle. Edited June 4, 2014 by USSInchon
jcbak Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Pumps are on. Throttle is at idle. During normal operation, I can shut the right engine down and restart it during the flight without issue. When the above describes occurs I can't restart. Doing a search of the forums, there does seem to be an issue with an inadvertent clicking of the right engine T-Handle. I'm going to save the track next time it occurs. sLYFa Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I was wondering if I might be somehow clicking on the right engine FIRE handle when exiting from the briefing page which would explain why I can't restart. I did that two times before I realized that you can still click cockpit controls with the briefind window open, so that is probably the cause i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
ralfidude Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 T-handle. Happens at times when I go into the chat and type to my team. It's unfortunate that clicking when the chat screen is up will still activate things behind the chat screen and hit buttons in the background, but its INconveniently placed right over the right T-handle which when pulled will choke all the fuel from the engine. There's your problem. I have gotten into the habit of looking UP when I access anything from the menu or chat, that way I haven't accidentally hit it again from then on. I've done the exact thing a million times it seems and… guess what, I look up also before chatting and also checking the briefing. If that doesn't solve your problem then I've got no other useful information for you either. Good luck with your engine problems.
