"smoke tracer effect" of, i.e. the P-51 guns

What is the explanation for the smoke traces that the bullets of, for example the guns of the P-51? I've seen them in RL footage as well.

 

Is that just some physical effect? Like you sometimes can see a bullet fired by a pistol or rifle fly through the air and/or the vortex it produces:

 

Or is it an artificial, maybe even intentionally added effect, perhaps the smoke of the burning tracer "fuel"?

Just burning phosphorus.

Yep, it is the smoke from the phosphorus tracers. Normal bullets don't have that.

For Lenux : modified shell_table.lua with smoke-tails for all M61 rounds (f15-f16-f18...)

Save default file before copy there : DCS World\Scripts\Database\Weapons\
