Stratos Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I have been using the Ka50 in the Hind role during the Soviet-Afghan war (using my cool Afghanistan repain, yes shameless promotion here), that is rockets + gun + gunpacks only on narrow valleys against infantry with AK's, RPG's and SAMS and the great Ranger DShK MG that is really hard to see and even harder to kill. Anyway is great fun, but as my chopper gets usually damaged by small arms fire and the fight needs other skills I have some questions that hope someone will be able to resolve. 1- How can I lower the landing gear If main usual key does not work? I tried the emergency LG deployment (on the left of the main LG buttonÇ) but NEVER got anything from it. I need to do something more or it simply does not work? 2- If SKHVAL and HUD are damaged, is there any backup way of aiming the fixed gun and rockets? 3- Is possible to load the main gun with HE bullets only? There are no APC's or tanks in Afghanistan. Thanks! I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!

Check the pressure gauges on the back panel. If common hydro is dead, you can try the emergency proc. Note that you must pull both handles, not only the emergency one. If your main hydro is dead, that's belly landing for you, since the emergency gear system uses that one. If the gears themselves are mechanically damaged, belly landing again. In any case, as soon as a problem occurs with any hydro, you should immediatly try to get your gears out. 2- If SKHVAL and HUD are damaged, is there any backup way of aiming the fixed gun and rockets?The standby reticle mode would be what you're looking for. You can switch to it via the HUD mode selector button, right below the hud. 3- Is possible to load the main gun with HE bullets only? Flagrum Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 when the hud goes down the backup goes down as well, its a bug. Are you sure? If the lamp or the lens or anything else directly in the device is broken, it just can't project the information - no matter if it is the regular hud information or the backup reticle - onto the combiner. The backup reticle should work if the targeting computer (K-something ...?) is damaged (and the backup computer, the nav computer is also not used). But I haven't tested this by myself, yet. Nor do I know if this damage constellation is realistic (in DCS)...

The Backup isnt a HUD backup ....Its a backup for the aiming system for manual fire.......*me thinks*. What everyone has been saying is that when the HUD computer goes out, the backup gunsight cannot be turned on. No one is saying anything about a "backup hud". In fact, his exact words were "nothing can get the backup sight on line"

Flying a COIN warfare on the confined spaces of Afghanistan valleys is really hard to complete missions once you're out of HUD. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
