SkateZilla Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Basically, it's AMD's Answer to Geforce Experience and Shadowplay. http://raptr.com/TinyDino/news/53a362fc5dec19e628/amd-gaming-evolved-update-game-dvr-beta-launch-and-client-redesign AMD Gaming Evolved Update: Game DVR beta adds continuous recording with virtually no performance cost We’ve just released an update to the AMD Gaming Evolved client that’s tuned to streamline your experience, and we’ve also added several video-related features that utilize H.264 video encoding to enable high-quality video capture with virtually no impact on performance. SkateZilla Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 I run the GE App for a few reasons, but mainly for the free stuff I get for playing games :) I use OBS to broadcast my center screen to YouTube Live, but If I can use GameDVR to Record better quality Video.. I'll give it a shot, Since DCS only uses 2 Cores, I have no issues with using OBS and CPU Encoding for YT Live. trooph Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Wow thanks for this info. I was waiting for AMDs move about shadowplay :)
SkateZilla Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 It's in Beta still, Crossfire Setups arent Officially supported yet (have to disable anyway to run DCS). I'll play with it this weekend and do some screen grabs of my settings. Since it's "Virtually" no FPS hit, I might try to record a 5760x1080 Sample. Something that normally chokes FPS on Fraps and other recorders. txmtb Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Skatezilla, is there a way to add DCS to the GE app? It detects that I have them through Steam but I don't have them installed as I use the standalone. I tried looking through the manually add a game but BlackShark seems to be the only one in there. I removed the steam version from the detected games list on the left, Then I modified the JSON Database file, removed the "Steam" Launch Attributes, and Changed the Game/Launch EXE Files/paths (removing steam folders). Save, Make it Read Only (or Raptr will try to download a new one everytime) Manually Add Game, Choose DCSW, Then Point to the default folder. I'll post the changes when I get home. or a Guide. SkateZilla Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 I have two separate listings one for DCSW and one for DCSW Beta. But I used a JSON Editor to manually add everything to the JOSN File, and you have to make sure Raptr doesnt replace it by making it read only or disconnecting from your network. edit: You can try this, not sure if it still works http://raptr.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21695&page=2 Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
hattrick Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 SkateZilla, How do the file sizes compare to FRAPS? Much smaller like Shadowplay or still huge like FRAPS and DXTORY? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Found this and trying it out now. Thanks again! Edit: I just edited the JSON file manually and changed the Steam version over to the standalone, then it added fine in the client. SkateZilla Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) i think that's the guide I used originally, but it's only temporary. When you update the AMD Gaming Evolved App, it will replace the Modded JSON File. Yea I noticed that. I'm wondering if leaving it open in Notepad ++ and re-saving it when Notepad ++ says it has changed would work. I use that method with my profile.xml for CCC settings. I did save just the section with the changes to a separate file so should be able to replace it anyway. Ultimate solution would be for them to just add the capability into the app. Win 10 64 Pro, MSI Z390 I7-9700K @5ghz Kraken Z63, 32Gb Corsair Dominator, MSI RTX-2070, 1TB NVME 2TB SSD's, TM Warthog, Pro Rudders, OpenTrack w/ IR Clip
hattrick Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 downloaded the GE app and am able to record .mp4 now in certain games like Red Orchestra 2 but can't get the DVR feature to work in DCS (even steam version)... Do I need to conduct these work arounds you are talking about or should the DVR work in the steam version of DCS... I just get game crashes every time it tries to load up. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Do I need to conduct these work arounds you are talking about or should the DVR work in the steam version of DCS... I just get game crashes every time it tries to load up. I ran into the same thing. Don't have the overlay selected and whenever GE app is running DCS crashes while loading the mission. Shut off GE app and it runs normally. hattrick Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I think I fixed the crashing issue by syncing up steam to raptr by adding my steam account to it... however the DVR function still doesn't show up in games..... ugh. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Buckeye Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 This is really cool, assuming it works as advertised...glad AMD finally made their counter move to Shadowplay. Now I can start making some YT videos to post here looking for critiquing. Thanks, Skate! Nopileus Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Be aware that DVR only works in 32bit applications for now. It also seems to be the case that all games that are not in raptr just won't work at all. I can for example get it to work with Wing Commander Saga (has a raptr entry), but not with other FS2Open based games/mods.
hattrick Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) So is it safe to say there is no way to get this beta version of the DVR to work with DCS world? Cause after it worked once for me in Red Orchestra 2, it has never worked again in any game.. The record overlay isn't popping up on screen. Edited June 26, 2014 by hattrick [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SkateZilla Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) So far I get this every time, at the loading screen for the mission Either it doesnt like XAudio, or something, but I havent found a way to change audio settings other than Volume in GameDVR Settings. txmtb Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) I did get it to run but by shutting off the DVR feature completely. The mission loads fine and it records the sim flight time. Curious to see if someone using the Steam version has it working, since the app is configured to detect DCS World, but only under a Steam install. hattrick Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Negative. Im running DCS through Steam and no dice on the DVR feature. It crashes to desktop unless I turn off the DVR function. ARGH. I would love to use this to make movies and not suck up 17Gb every 3 minutes I capture lol. Hopefully they will fix the issue soon. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
