Stratos Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Now that the Mig-21 is coming, will be nice to get better skins for the F-5E as it will be a suitable opponent, but I can't find any. So is there any skin available for the Tiger? Thanks. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
Agg Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Don't think there's going to be many available skins for it as it's a very old low poly model.
JABO2009 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Don't think there's going to be many available skins for it as it's a very old low poly model. exactly.... thus, a new 3d model for F5 tiger would be great and a new F4 Phantom 3d model is nearly a MUST HAVE for DCSW , now with the Mig 21 coming along soon  Intel I7 - 10700 K @ 3,80GHz / 64 GB DDR3 / RTX 3090 / Win 10 Home 64 bit / Logitech X56 HOTAS / HP Reverb G2 Running DCS on latest OB version

Stratos Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 Once edited, how I should save it in order to see it as a new skin in the sim? I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
Home Fries Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) There are a couple ways to do this depending on what tools you have available. This thread has a lot of good options. If you have the nVidia tools plug-in for Photoshop, you can use the "Save As" command to save the PSD directly as a DDS file. For most skins, they will be DXT1 with no alpha channel (like a BMP). Alternatively, you can "Save As" in BMP format for testing with the viewer, then when you get it the way you like it you can convert it to DDS using DXTBmp or any of the other tools listed in the linked thread. This probably won't apply for the F-5, but in general if you have anything that requires an alpha channel (like the F-15C/Su-27 decals or the UH-1 uniform flags/rank/patches), you save it as a TGA and then convert it to DX3 (discrete alpha for most uses) or DX5 (smooth alpha for things like clouds, explosions, or gradual changes in visibility). Likewise, if you have the nVidia tools you can save the formats directly from Photoshop as well. Finally, be sure to use the model viewer built into DCS World. It's a lot quicker and easier than loading up DCS World every time you want to evaluate your skin. Just follow these instructions to create the batch file in your DCS World folder and then send the shortcut to the batch file to your desktop. Hope this helps.
