Harudath Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 As in the title, I'm having problems with refuelling. Every time I try to refuel, my gauge seems to stop at around the 10 mark. Takes a few minutes to get to the 10klbs point, after which no amount of refuelling (at least nothing less than 20 minutes) will finish the job, or even move the needle. The tankers I'm using are set to start with 100% internal fuel, and the jets (it's a refuelling practice mission) start at about 10% fuel, with no external fuel tanks. Any and all help appreciated. I'm using the FC3 F-15. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Rooks & Kings
Mar Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Air-refueling the F-15 has become such a pain in the - for me that I don't even bother anymore. I have to be in the exact perfect position for the jerk to connect, and if the tanker is turning he won't connect at all. And when I do finally get connected, I lose it if I hit a red light. Isn't the red light just supposed to warn you that you're close to the end of the envelope, not mean instant disconnect? From the shadows of war's past a demon of the air rises from the grave. Harudath Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 I haven't had any red lights, I just stop taking fuel while connected to the tanker after a certain time. It's fiddly and I disconnect several times through lack of ability, but many times I've been connected for 20 minutes and the fuel needle just does not move past 80% =/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Rooks & Kings
SgtPappy Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Lucky you. I'm 100% convinced you need a real, $200+ stick to even refuel. I've never been able to connect to the tanker for more than half a second as of yet.
Iberian Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I've connected multiple times with my 25$ joystick -.- with f-15, a-10a, and su-33. Just takes practice, but 1.2.8 is buggy....not as bugged as 1.2.7 where the tanker used to start shaking everywhere even on single player [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SgtPappy Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Have any tips for me? I've got a Logitech Extreme 3D which is years old but works so well. It's only in IFR where I get most issues. Trying to keep the plane from pulling up as I speed up or dropping its nose when I slow down is the biggest issue. I overcompensate inputs even with the smallest displacements of the stick. Should I put my Y-axis curvature up higher or something?
Weltensegler Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) Did you check the fuel prices recently? You might not be able to afford more than a 80% fill :-p As for the Logitech stick, I'm not good in air refueling but I can tell you its much easier for me with a HOTAS warthog than with a Logitech ext.pro because the logi has a strange lever length compared to the resistance (spring). And it is even easier since I have my HOTAS warthog extended in length. Conclusion: the stick matters imho And of course adjusting curves more to exponential for smaller input helps with every stick. Harudath Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Yeah, I'm using an X52 Pro and the sensitivity curvature is set to 30 or something :P So I'm not doing anything wrong, and it's pretty much just a bug? I went from a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 to the X52 Pro and I can tell you the difference is such that I don't think I could ever go back [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Rooks & Kings
SgtPappy Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Well, damn. I'll have to invest in a new stick then... or get reeaalll good on my current setup.

Harudath Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 Well, damn. I'll have to invest in a new stick then... or get reeaalll good on my current setup. I'm sure it's possible with a budget stick, shiny things can just help :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Rooks & Kings
SgtPappy Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Yea, sadly no matter what I do, I have to oscillate the stick up and down. I can never have such a small input as to keep the plane at a level attitude. :(
Harudath Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 I used to have my curvature set to something like this: Currently trying to get used to . I guess I'll try deleting and replacing the planes in the mission, that might fix it [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Rooks & Kings
Mar Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 We'll I don't know if just got skilled up (as what usually happens after I complain about something being hard) or the conditions of my mission were different or something, but I recently did a few successful refuelings. Still a pain in the rear to do, and I do have a good stick. I discovered that texaco takes it upon himself to decide, without telling me, that 10,100 pounds of fuel is enough for me too. If I started over that amount however, he would top me off completely. I haven't fully tested refueling with tanks yet so I don't know what the deal is there right now. kk0425 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Large curves are great for AAR, but I can't stand them if you need to do any kind of combat. It feels too sluggish for me when trying to maneuver.
Mobius_cz Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 When PFM was released i was testitng air refueling like an idiot again again and again :D Here is my "report" from April including a track http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=122799 Well i am a little cheater because even with my Warthog it was hell for me :joystick:...I just activated autopilot with pressing "A" :D and wow you can still fly it and when you move your stick it is still active and you can do nice and steady refueling but this is not the right way how to do it :D [sIGPIC]http://dcs-uvp.cz/images/userbars/uvp_bars_mic.gif[/sIGPIC]
Harudath Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Looks like changing the planes around doesn't fix it, must be a bug. On the plus side, the whole refuel (10-80%, anyway...) took about five minutes and had only a couple disconnections. Bug testing, not practice, makes perfect I guess :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Rooks & Kings
SgtPappy Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Ah, I FINALLY did it. Turns out a quick calibration in Windows is all it took.
