Dear all

As one can not enter a DCS-Key to Steam anymore, I guess I have to change to the non-steam version, right?

My question now is: How can I redownload the items that I already have in my steam version?

Thanks for your advice!:)

There is also a module manager section in the game in the non-steam version. As long as you have your Steam keys activated on your account here, you can just install DCS World, and then install your modules from the main menu.

Do you think guys... that would work if i install manually the D9 in the Steam client and try to activate the D9 from there?

Instead of reverting to non-steam copy, in future will ED supply steam keys to backers ?

Based on what has been said about the Steam situation, the answer is no.

The situation being that steam no longer accepts ported ED keys ?

As the kickstarter started at a time steam was accepting keys this obviously was not even thought of but now is an inconvenience.

Is it possible they can set up a system where you/kickstarters/backers can pay an extra fee to receive steam keys to negate profit loss through steam commission ?

The situation is that Steam has to manually add ED keys to their database, since ED does not use Steam's DRM, and, apparently, no longer wish to perform the extra labor.

Dear all,

We learned from Valve/Steam that they will be unable to continue merging DCS keys purchased outside of the Steam Store. As such and as of today, please note that any keys purchased outside of the Steam Store can no longer be used to activate DCS products on Steam.

We will be working with Steam to merge all keys purchased prior to today. We can make no promises as to when or if this will happen though… that is out of our hands.

Please note though that keys purchased on the Steam store will work on DCS World downloaded from the DCS Store.

Thanks

Dead? Absolutely not!

Just make a fresh dcs install from the DCS website http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/dcs_world/

This version can take both keys bought from the DCS website AND keys from steam.

All aircraft are still going to be released. And so will the Normandy map.

I still would like a reason why they ED can't provide us with steam keys. I understand why we cant add ED keys to steam but ED can still provide us with steam keys like every other game com. Instead of ED giving keys to steam to add they can receive keys from steam and give them to us....

So why not ?

Probably the same reason why no keys sold via the ED store are merged to the Steam database: to costly to maintain. If they provide you with a Steam key, it would now have to be removed or rather tagged as "sold" in the Steam database (so that it would not be sold to someone else in the meantime).

Then they should set up an exchange service, where backers can repurchase the game through steam, submit the key to ED and be refunded. It would probably end up being more profitable for them as buying each individual aircraft on steam would be more expensive then the deal with kickstarter.

That way they get more money and people wanting the convenience of steam get it = everyone happy.

With the benefit of hindsight, if everyone knew purchasing copies via kickstarter did not entitle you to a steam copy I bet it wouldn't have been as successful. Something to think about for future kickstarters.
