hi all , thought id make a thread to help motivate me to progress in a build im planning.

back ground is i love small trainer jets and don't really get into combat flying. the f86 is quite basic but also quite a nice looking cockpit imo. talking to a friend in Greece about the aircraft i asked if he had many detailed pictures of the cockpit in his massive collection of stored aviation photos when he sent me this

i couldn't believe my luck. i still need some basic measurements but im sure i can find them.

a co worker found out i was looking at buying a scroll saw from work "work at bunnings" and told me he had an old one sitting in his shed and to make an offer. so $50 later i have a vital tool for making a good part of the cockpit.

this will be a slow build but something different and fun. so if anyone has any documents on the f86 cockpit such as measurements and manuals id very much appreciate them.

ok so ive finally managed to get started on this project. I picked up the scroll saw last week and then had to get some wood. I was having a lot of trouble finding references for the F86 cockpit and was ready to switch to a different aircraft but decided to just roughly design it as it doesn't need to be 100% accurate. just needs to make me feel like im flying an aircraft.

took about 3 hrs to draw up the design for the main panel then the scroll saw made quick work out of it. im really quite impressed with this tool, id call it the poor mans cnc machine. all u need to do is get your design printed and stick it to the wood and u can cut some pretty fine detailed stuff.

anyway the start to the main panel sitting next to a 24" monitor.

next I will build 3d bevels for on top of this panel and cut out the holes.

this is an old torch handle ive had laying around , once the torch broke I knew the handle would be useful. this will be my throttle handle.

I will likely cut it down and make a wooden top to replicate the real thing. having a cylinder section on the bottem of it to sit inside the metal tube and held in place by small screws in the side.

"silly question"

looking at the throttle im not 100% sure how the pilot actuall holds it. is it held around the tube and operate the buttons with your thumb and index finder , or would u place your hand over the top like a gear stick in a car ???

did a little test to see if I could cut the holes without a hole saw.

can do it but a hole saw will be easier/faster/cleaner.

although I still think this test bit looks awesome for my skill level :D
