Peabot Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) I have Black Shark (original) and I seem to get glitchy (jumpy) graphics even on medium settings. I just upgraded my rig, and even when playing ArmA3, a notoriously hardware-demanding game, the game auto-set puts me on ULTRA setting and my computer can handle it, so I am wondering if it's because Black Shark is now so old that it just won't make best use of my hardware. The essential components of my computer are, Windows 7 Radeon R9 270 2048MB i5 4690K, at 3.5 ghz + 8Gb 1600 RAM The graphics on BS seems blocky to the point my cockpit dials are hard to read, so it seems like it shouldn't be that demanding on my hardware. Do I just need to get BS 2? Will it make a difference? Also the Patch 1.0.2 won't install. Yes it's a clean install. (i installed 1.0.1 earlier which went fine, but uninstalled everything again to reinstall BS and 1.0.2 ONLY....as per the instructions....) Also I read that BS uses only 1 cpu core. Do the newer DCS products use multiple cores? Thanks in advance for any help I can get. I dusted off my old BS game to try it out to see if I want to get DCS's newer products but at this point I am wondering if I should waste the money. But I could be doing somehting wrong. Edit: The patch 1.0.2 stops at a window that says "Backup".....I have tried leaving it alone for a while but after a while when i check Task Manager, it always says "not responding".... Abburo Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I did not used ever first BS, but I own the current DCS World version of BS2. Looking at your computer configuration, seeing the latest DCS World add-ons and the already enhaced graphics, having some great freeware mods to enhannce even more the graphics quality... I would say to make your step forward to latest version. Also, EDGE is pretty close and your AMD graphic card will be utilised more optimal due to DX11 general improvments. Also you can install freely latest 1.2.10 version of DCS World just to see how it works... Romanian Community for DCS World HW Specs: AMD 7900X, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, HOTAS Virpil, MFG, CLS-E, custom
Peabot Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 Thanks for the input Abburo. I will indeed try downloading the DCS World to see how it works on my computer. I'd like to believe that Black Shark 1 is simply outdated and cannot use my hardware properly, and that my rig will be able to get at least a "decent" performance from the newer games. I am still a little let down thought that in 2014, any simulation game wouldn't make use of multi-core processors.
Tone71 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Bear in mind that the original Black Shark doesn't have the benefit of being updated alongside DCS World (it doesn't work with it, you'll need BS2 for that), so it technically isn't a sim from 2014 :) It's also not that easy to make an existing program suddenly start using multiple cores. Looking at yours specs, however, I would definitely say this is more an outdated software issue than a hardware one.
