A little limited with my budget, can't really afford a TM at the moment (using a Thrustmaster Extreme 3D Pro for now). All I have is that stick, TrackIR 5, a basic mouse and keyboard and that's it. I've done the tutorial for startup, taxi and takeoff without much trouble. But as far as advanced techniques (rudder/trim, throttle/manifold pressure/RPM management etc) how do you think this setup will fare? Doable but very difficult?

I'm not sure if I should just tough it out with what I have or simply wait until I have a better setup for it all. Thanks for any input.

I'm not familiar with that stick but for the ww2 planes as well as the helicopters is where you will miss rudder pedals. I would still go ahead and play it if I were you. If nothing else you can learn the systems until you save up some more cash.

Have fun.

If I could only have 3 inputs I'd have a stick, throttle and track IR 5 . . .

trim . . . if your mouse has a scroll wheel, that would help . . .

I didn't like twist for yaw so I I mapped two buttons the joystick base to do yaw also . . .

thats a good joystick, but I had to tweak the profile . . .

+1 on playing and getting pedals later

then I got the ch hotas . . . yum!

Trackir is fun, but you're not missing a basic control input without it. Joystick and rudder pedals (with toe brakes of course) are what you need to simulate controlling an aircraft.

I assume you mean the Logitech Extreme 3D pro stick? If so, yes, very do-able. A great help is to use keys like Ctrl and Alt as modifiers that way for example if you use the hat switch for gun sight adjustments you could have trim as Ctrl-Hat switch. This is how I had to set up A-10C on an X-52.

True, you're only missing out on immersion and situational awareness.

Cheers.

I would put the TrackIR as a priority right after the flight stick. You can always use the twist rudder. There's enough buttons on a 3D Pro or simple stick for WWII planes.
