topol-m Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 What the heck? upQ7fdhpAj4 Codename "Replica"? Is this still an ongoing project? Anyone has more info on that? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
159th_Viper Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Is this still an ongoing project? No. Replica was a GBP 20 million programme, jointly funded by BAE SYSTEMS and the Ministry of Defence via the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA). Programme ran from 1994 - 1999 and illustrated the UK's ability to table an affordable, low-cost 'stealth' aircraft. 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Emu Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 The learning was incorporated into the F-35 joint venture (10% UK stake). Recently the radar model has resumed testing. http://theaviationist.com/2014/02/25/mysterious-bae-replica/ The plot thickens. F-35-related testing, Taranis-related..... Captor_E-related???
topol-m Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Testing it again might indicate something fishy is still going on :D I don't see how it could be F-35 related, whatever testing needs to be done can be done on the F-35 itself, there are quite a few manufactured already, doesn't resemble the Taranis either... Pilotasso Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 might be testing new radar tech instead of actually developing a plane. .
NOLA Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 As pointed out, this is ooooooooooooooold program. They know exactly what the RCS section is for the different angles of this test article, which makes it perfect to either use as calibration or test new stuff on it. Why do you think F-117 is still used under F-35 program? For fun?
Emu Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I see, so they can add something and measure the change (if any) in RCS if I'm understanding you.
NeilWillis Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Or it could be a radar system being tested using that as a stealth target. One thing is guaranteed when it comes to anti radar technology, the radar systems to beat it will be high on the agenda for all defence organisations now.
