Hey guys

So sadly, my faithful Logitech Attack 3's useable lifetime is coming to an end. It's worked great for more than 10 years, but the center is starting to become sloppy, and the sensors are a little finicky.

I want a new stick but I'm having a problem: pretty much every single flightstick in production uses a twist rudder. This is problematic for me because I use rudder pedals, and having a twist grip is both an annoyance and completely useless.

However, I'm not yet willing to sink the ~$500 for a TM Warthog because I need a stick that I can use on other modules such as UH-1H, F-15C, and Falcon 4 BMS (requiring a lighter stick), and I don't play DCS A-10 quite enough to buy multiple sticks.

So my question to you guys is, do any of you know of a rotationally-fixed flight stick currently in production (and preferably under $80)? I can't for the life of me find any sticks still in production that don't have a rudder axis, which is really frustrating. All the old sticks (Microsoft Sidewinder 2, Logitech Attack 3, Logitech G940, etc) had fixed rotation, but all the new fancy (overpriced) Saitek sticks seem to twist.

Cheers

Is this really an issue? Sounds like a first world problem to me :P

Is it that you might accidentally twist the stick while flying? As long as the axis isn't assigned it's not going to do anything. Also, keep in mind many people actually do use this axis and don't keep accidentally applying rudder when they don't need it.

In any case, I know that the X-52 series sticks have a twist lock-out button. You could also easily modify any given stick to fix the rudder axis in place.

If you fly a lot of helos you might want to look into getting a used MS Sidewinder FFB2. It's the best force feedback stick ever made and it's well within your budget. It DOES have a twist grip, but modifying a used stick might hurt less than doing it to a new one.

Hi the only one i know is the Thrusmaster Hotas X which does have a twist grip but there is a little screw on it to turn off that functionality. Was a great cheap stick and lasted me ages until i took the plunge and got the warthog stick.

Hope this helps

Really? I never found that screw. I've given it to my Dad now, so I'll have to check it again when I'm over there.

Great, thanks. This will be very helpful for my Dad when I give him some pedals for Christmas :)

Yes I know it might sound like a "first world problem" but I really dislike the rotational slop that comes from having an unmapped twist function. I looked at all the sticks and now I just have to decide between the CH Fighter Stick, the Sidewinder FFB2, or a full on TM Warthog.

Thanks guys

Options of no "twist" stick.

Ch Flightstick (dont worth the price, too limited)

CH F16 Combatstick

Ch F16 Fighterstick

Warthog stick (available as standalone too)

VKB Mamba - available (when...) only in Russian market

Saitek X-52/PRO allow lock the twist.

For the others, use this. :smilewink:

Haha yes I have seriously considered just putting in a screw or two to restrict the rotation.

I am most likely going to spring for the Fighterstick, as it has many programmable buttons, built in trim, good quality (according to 99% of amazon reviews) and is within my budget.

But oh man that VKB Mamba, it looks amazing. What real life joystick is it attempting to model?

I have a Warthog and the FFB2. The Warthog can't be beat for realism, but I like the FFB2's stick mechanics much better. The Warthog has sticking problems and the center clunk unless you extend it by a few inches. The FFB2 feels amazingly smooth in all directions and has FFB in the bargain, but it doesn't have enough buttons. No experience with the CH Fighterstick, but it's got a similar design to the Mamba and is also lightly sprung, so I expect that it feels much like the FFB2. BTW the grip on the Mamba is from the Defender joystick and is based off Russian Sukhoi's flight controls.
