Vinny002 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Hi, guys! Question for you, what is the best altitude for flying the DCS mig-21 at Mach 2 or twice the speed of sound? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
pyromaniac4002 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 ~30,000 feet works pretty well for me. One thing though, you're going to want to climb up above that altitude and then drop down to your desired altitude and unload the angle of attack on your plane. If you don't unload the AoA you'll have too much drag to go much beyond Mach 1.6-1.8.
Vinny002 Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Hi, Pyromaniac4002! That makes sense! Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
Dirty Rotten Flieger Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 It is not easy to do. I have been taking off with three tanks of fuel climbing to 10 or 11km with the tank fuel then drop them and trim for level flight. It takes quite a long time to get up to mach two and you want to plan it so you have an airfield to land at when you run low of fuel Also more than two missile will give you too much drag.
Philipp2 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Its not so hard to do. Take off with 2 Tanks climb 8000mtrs( they should be empty then) and level off ...accelerate to mach 1.2 or something then do a climb to 10.000m and youre beyond mach 2 ..If not climbing your Groundspeed will not increase.
Vinny002 Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 Hi, guys! Thanks for the explanation! I'll try it out! Cheers, Vincent
